How is your 144 books for 2010 going

Well still on my 4th Emma but no exams now so loads of reading time yay. I intend to finish a couple this week to catch up.

Vicky I enjoy the Cedar Cove series too but I never get caught up with it I don't know why I don't read the ones I have and even if I leave the last one until I know a new one is coming then it wouldn't be as bad. I'm only up to 6. But I have the unread ones on my bookcase. I think on Blossom the only one I haven't read is if there was a holiday one that came out. I should really just get it from the library so at least I know I would be caught up with that series.
Finished book #5 and working on #6. Should be starting #7 tonight.
I have half of book 9 done and just started book 10. I can't believe I am on a roll. I am fulling confident that I'll get my 12 books in for this month. But next month will be another story, hopefully, the homework load isn't' too bad.
I have 1/2 of 11 done and already thinking about 12. I had to laugh the night before last I had finished 10 and was going crazy trying to find the book I wanted to read next. I kept pulling them out and reading some and thinking not in the mood for that or since I knew I would have to take it out with me yesterday I didn't want to carry a hc. So was trying for a pb. Well I pulled out a book I never expected I would get into. I read almost 1/2 the book yesterday just waiting in a waiting room at a place my sister had an appt at and asked if I wanted to take the ride. Glad I took the right book. Now I just have to finish the rest of it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
I finished re-reading an old friend last night. Rogue Queen by L. Sprague de Camp. It has not ONE but TWO HEAs. I met Sprague late in his life, and he was a wonderful, wonderful man. I actually acted as "bodyguard" to him at a couple of scifi/fantasy cons where he was a guest of honour. We had some lovely talks. One of those talks was about 1 of his books that I especially liked, The Purple Pterodactyls: The Adventures of W. Wilson Newbury, Ensorcelled Financier. I asked him how many Pterodactyls his loyal fans had sent him and he said "None." Which I thought was a great shame. So, home I went, and when we met at Balticon the following year, I presented him with his first purple pterodactyl, made by me. He actually looked like he teared up for a second, and I KNOW his wife did. We had dinner together that night, and talked about all kinds of different authors, his writing, his wife's writing and basically, everything under the sun. But as a result, I periodically go back and re-read one of his books just as a reminder of a very sweet man.

I am almost done with Albion's Seed, which is book 15 I think. It's huge - 900 pages. I'm also reading Random Harvest, which is much shorter and pretty easy reading, and How to Cook Everything. That one could take a long time, but I suppose I'll just keep browsing through until it's due at the library. I'm finding some very helpful stuff in there. I'd love to buy a copy.

I've just picked up 8 books from the library that are going to be the tv book club choices over the next few weeks. Some of them are out of my comfort zone and quite lengthy- so I think I may get a little behind schedule for a while. I like to be challenged to read other things- so I am going to read them. I'll just have to treat myself to some light fluffy ones in the spring!
I've just finished A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway and just started The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. It's going to be hard to put a dent in my TBR pile when I go to the library and check books out.
I've now completed 7 for January and will be starting #8 today. I'm close, so I'm going to make d*mn sure I reach my 12!
You can do it Kelly!! And the rest of you too!!
Way to go Kelly. One of us has to do it, might as well be you! =) Cause I am not going to make it! LOL Good thing I am just doing this for fun!

Thanks girls!! And Kelly, don't sweat not making 12 - having fun is def the whole point! I like Afsana's point of view about even just reaching it once being satisfying. Every new month can be a new attempt. :-)

I finished the first 100 pages of Witch & Wizard today while at the hospital with my father waiting for the doctor. I am really hoping to make 12 books, but it is going to be very tight.

just curious- why you are counting rereads as half books as woul have thought that if reading book from front to back would take same amount of time as new read?

I am always reading too I have 100+ books on my actual tbr and am also attempting to rerad all my books(300+) books-though the rereads are not all this year but will set targets per author and have a challenge running thru the years

I am on book #4 I thought this was going to be a very slow month but so far it's picking up. It would have been 5 but gave up on one.

I know what you mean Fw2book about them coming in weirdly. I had reserved the entire Kitty series (Kitty and the Midnight Hour) and had all of them come in at 1 time--EXCEPT #1--and I'm still stuck at #3 on the reserve list for it. And #2 had to be back to the library in 2 weeks, since someone else had it on reserve. So I've now read Kitty #2 and #3. But still haven't moved up at all on the reserve list for #1. Sigh, isn't waiting just great?
I've already read 17. I'm doing real good but I know that I'll end up slowing down because I'll end up in a rut or I'll get occupied with other activities especially around the summer. But for now this is helping me knock off my TBR pile.

I haven't tried pogo or Slingo. I used to be addicted to Tetrus....now I seem to stick to solitaire because it is more relazing and my reactions are getting slower !

Lol Catherine. You will get hooked ;-) I used to play Scrabble several times a day. And Word Whomp. And the balloon popping game - it's called Poppit, can't remember how to spell it though. Recently I've been playing the slots, and they are most addictive. You can even win real money if you land on a jackpot, although I'm sure the odds are next to nil. You play with tokens, and then you can spend tokens to buy outfits and hairstyles and backgrounds for your mini (your little person). It's all very fun lol.
Oh my gosh, one of my coworkers is totally addicted to Poppit. I've never tried it, but she plays it every day! All I've tried so far is Trivial Pursuit.
That's funny :D Poppit is fun! I haven't tried Trivial Pursuit yet, but I want to. Bingo is fun too.
I'm sure I'll eventually try everything!

If you read 1 extra (13) for the 9 months of non summer then 9 books for the 3 months
or 2 extra (14) per month for 9 months then can read only 6 per month in those 3 months of summer. Or just read as and when you can and hope for the best
I used to play Poppit! a lot, until I found Slingo. Poppit is fun.
That's the plan...to just keep going.
Kelly, it's kinda like bingo but you have a slot machine and you have to fill the whole board. You can also get a devil which will take away half your points or you can get an angel that can save you from the devil. Really, really fun.

My average on books per month is usually 6 or 7. I'm just not sure I can make 144 in a year... :( I'm going to try it but I'm thinking I may end between 80 and 90...
Sure wish we could count childrens books... LOL I read Cat in the Hat about 6 times a night!
I am reading Pretty Little Mistakes: A Do-Over Novel, a choose your own adventure book. It is a book club pick and one I picked for a game, 2 birds one book, LOL. I don't think I will count it for this challenge as you can't read it cover to cover. I read 3 versions tonight, will read some more, but will get bored with it soon. But it is interesting the things that happen when you pick.
Darcy, I remember choose-your-own-adventure books!! I didn't know they still made them. :)
Carrie, I don't think I'm going to make the full 144 either, and I'm sure we won't be the only ones. It will be a push for me to read 5 more this month (I've completed 7). I could probably do it, except that I have a buddy read scheduled for Monday, which is going to slow me down, I feel like. It's okay though. What I'm thinking is that I'll make sure that I do a total of 100 books for the year (which should be doable for me, at the rate I'm going), and anything over that is icing on the cake. I figure that if I relax about it a little, I will probably read faster, and I may even end up coming pretty close to the 144. 9 a month would be 108 for the year, so I'm going to push myself for 9 a month - and anything over that will be great. :)
I remember choose-your-own-adventure books too. Those were fun.
