Similar Authors??

Has anyone read anyone else that writes like him?? I loved all his books (the most recent one and Wolf at the table were my least favorite but LOVE LOVE the rest!). The most similar author I've found so far is David Sedaris. I would love it if anyone could give me suggestions. Thanks!

Well, I read almost all of Augusten's books and I absolutely like them. Haven't started the Wolf at the Table. Although different, I love Jonathan Safran Foer's "Everything is Illuminated". I will now look into David Sedaris. Thanks for the suggestion! Evelyn

Like Augusten, but female and farther west.

No problem Evelyn. Thanks guys I enjoyed both those books as well. I read "Everything is Illuminated" a while ago and "Split" recently as well as the rest of Suzanne Finnamore's books since I think I read that Sarah Dessen recommended her. Anyone else?

Try Josh Kilmer-Purcell's "I am not myself these days". He has a lot of Augusten's wit and sardonic tone. He was also an ad guy and went through substance abuse like Burroughs....a lot of similarities if you ask me. In this book he recounts his drag queens days in nyc alongside his serious relationship with a male escort.

There is also Look Me In The Eye, by his brother (the undiagnosed asbergian). His brother recalls his struggles growing up asbergian with very little parental support. His name is John Elder Robison - it's interesting that Augusten and his brother both turned out to be authors - and their Mother was always trying to get her poetry published - maybe she passed the literary genes on to her sons....

Sarah--try Haven Kimmell's books..."A Girl Named Zippy" and "She got up off the Couch." They're memoirs--not quite Augusten's sense of humor but they are HILARIOUS...I thoroughly enjoyed them.

Thanks Corinne! I will do so. Nothing better than reading a hilarious book. I like regular books as well but the ones that make you laugh and laugh are the best. A long time ago I read both of Ellen Degeneres' books and was laughing so hard at work that I had to stop myself from reading them because I was disrupting everyone lol.

I think Jonathan Ames is very Augustenish. Laugh out loud funny and inappropriate.
