I also think that Jon is Lyanna's son by Rhaegar Targaryen. I think he is important to the Red Priestess as well. Possibly he is the one meant to wield the real lightbringer, not Stannis?? It's possible that he and Dany are meant to be together because of the history of the Targaryens intermarrying. I doubt he dies.

The waiting doesn't bother me, though I read the entire series in one month, two months ago O_o

The decline in the quality of his writing was my major peeve. DwD only needed to be about 400-500 pages long. The rest was repetitious filler than an editor should have scrubbed. His heart doesn't seem to be in the series, anymore.

Yeah, fans have speculated that for years; but if there's one thing I've picked up from reading ASoIaF is that things are never that simple or predictable. Sure it would be cool if Jon was a Targaryen (and the son of Rhaegar, no less) and it would even be cooler in an ironic sort of way, if he and Dany ended up together. The series is titled "a song of ice and fire" after all, where Dany could be the fire and Jon, the ice and I'd like to think that their "song" is the story of how they'll unite the broken Westeros, saving it from sadistic Cersei and her brood while defending it from the Others and abolishing the slave trade across the narrow sea. <-- Haha that is all just wishful thinking of course. I highly doubt this series will have that sort of fairytale ending. All I know for certain, is to expect the unexpected.

B.evil ok so here has been mine and my boyfriends big questions with on Jon Snows lineage. Did it not say in the one book when they were talking about his milk brother at the wall, that his mother was Ashara Dane? So I didnt think there was a mystery with that, but i always hoped it was something cooler.

Then this last one the Lord that Davos was talking to saying he remembered Ned Stark coming in with a fishwife he had knocked up. What was the deal with that? So is that maybe the wet nurse or something, it kinda threw me off.

And i always hoped that Jon and Dany would hook up, hence the fire and ice but I am not having any more expectations from him anymore.

Nicole Yes, can someone explain that fishwife comment? I too, was confused by that.

Mealias well basically here are the basic speculations about jon's parentage; technically no body really knows who jon's true mother is except Ned and Howland Reed:

1) Ned + Wylla - speculated by Edric Dayne and King Robert and probably others
2) Ned + Ashara Dayne - speculated by Cat and Cersei
3) Ned + fisherwife - speculated by Godric Borrel
4) Rhaegar + Lyanna - speculated by fans :)

I don't care if the book is filler as long as the filler is good. This filler was bad. Jon snow's character got derailed, Dany didn't do anything, there were a bazillion plot holes. I am sick of mercenaries/bankers/people switching sides when doing so makes no sense. Why DOESN'T Ben Plumm turn Tyrion over to his sister. Because Tyrion promised him a bunch of gold that Tyrion doesn't have and probably never will? Why would the bankers abandon the Lannisters (the richest family in the books) to support Stannis, who lives in a ruined castle in the north? NOTHING MAKES ANY SENSE ANY MORE, and the clever political intrigue was half of what made these books so great.

Nicole The politics often do not make sense to us nor do the human/emotional choices.Catelyn, Ned, Brienne, Rob, Jon, Tyrion, Jamie make personal choices that often leave me disgusted. Martin's world is not our world but people can be just an stupid. Their flaws are what make the characters interesting. The plot "holes" bothered me at first and they may bother me again once I am read the entire series but, for now, that won't derail me from looking foward to the final volumes.

Will IV Thinking back on the novel, I think the only part I truly didn't enjoy was Dany being stuck in one place, which took up like half the book. I understand why she had to be where she was, I just think it would have been much wiser to skip her chapters altogether. Focus on where there is action actually taking place, then, when the time comes for Dany to actually do something, you come back to her, quickly fill in the reader with a summary on all the "nothing" that has been happening, and continue with her story. Writers do this all the time and it makes for better reading.

---He doesn't you anything, sorry, but that's reality. If you are sick of waiting for the books to come out then you can always just give the series up. I would rather wait a few years and have an awesome next book in the series rather than have a chuck palahniuk situation where he writes a book every year and the last 4 books he's written have been shitty.

Alena I figure I'll put in my 2 bits worth. This series of books is excellent. I've read it 3 times now. Each time something new pops up that I didnt notice before. No matter who dies, what happens - I will enjoy it. If it takes another 10 years to finish, so be it. Its worth the wait. The man is human, he has a life outside of Westeros. I am not walking in his shoes so I have no right to judge. Dance with Dragons produced for me. I couldnt put it down. My arms are still sore from lugging it around. My eyes are sore from reading. Felt like a vampire sucking the life blood out of it LOL

My sentiments EXACTLY.

Yeah, but I kinda love how long they are!
