Peng | 317 comments that's the spirit, bre. i do hope you like it (but as meghan said, the original is still the best) coz there are scenes there not in the original book which seems really good and thought of by that "other" author. happy reading!

by the way, samantha. have you read our comments for the "other hp7"? is it the same as the one you found in the phohenixsong.net? i haven't checked that site yet but if it's the same i won't bother. too busy starting with hp 1 all over again. ^_^

message 68: by Annalisa (last edited May 11, 2009 04:02PM) (new)

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) read it here:
http://melindaleo.com/fics/tsh/
or do a search for the seventh horcrux.
I haven't read it yet, but I'd be interested in what people think once they do read it.

message 69: by Alysses (new)

Alysses (rumor_has_it) Could someone send me the pdf? Thanks!! mirelyr at gmail dot com.

Alysses (rumor_has_it) Hi Annalisa,

I saw the post and know where it is online but I would be able to read it better as a PDF. Can't find the actual PDF that is floating around so thought I would ask for someone to send it to me.

Thanks!

message 72: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Sep 01, 2009 12:29PM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I'd actually like the pdf instead of having to read it online if someone can send it to me as well. Send me a message here on GRs and I'll send you my email address.

Thank you

message 73: by Annalisa (last edited Sep 02, 2009 08:41AM) (new)

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) Ok, sorry. It didn't seem to me that anyone has it. Everyone keeps adding messages to have it sent to them, but it doesn't seem like anyone is sending out the PDF file. Personally, I started reading it and didn't think it was very good and quit. But then again, I don't like fan fiction.

message 77: by Mounica (new)

Mounica | 20 comments Me too, Annalisa. I read, like, three chapters of it, and I couldn't stand it. There was way too much snogging in the beginning and I didn't come to part where they start searching for the horcruxes so idk if it's gets better later. But still, I like to stick with the real book. Or else, I'm going to get all confused with the plot if I read all the different versions of the 7th book. :]

message 78: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) It's so hard for someone to capture a writer's style, the characterization, the pacing, plot creativity, etc. It was my first and last attempt at fan fiction. I wasn't liking it and flipped to the end to see that Snape was the bad guy and quit right there. I'd rather read about character's from the mind of the person who created them--unless it's Stephenie Meyer who ruined her characters in Breaking Dawn. Ok, sorry, I just have to get in snide remarks about that book whenever I can :).

message 79: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kqcrocks) | 25 comments I didn't know that there was more versions of the book. Is it called the same thing? can you get it at the library?

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) It's unofficial fanfic. You'll never find it at a library. It is however, free online.

message 81: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kqcrocks) | 25 comments ok do you know a website I can get it at?

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) scroll up, someone listed it in this thread.

message 83: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kqcrocks) | 25 comments ok thank you

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Fanfic is legal as long as they give it away and don't make money off of it.

message 85: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) I know I'm gonna get hate for this one, but:

I bet the fake is better than the crappy original.

There, it was said. And I won't be back to defend myself because I'm one out of the very few who was very disappointed with the 7th book, so I won't have the time to fight off people.

Cheers

message 86: by ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (last edited Nov 04, 2009 05:49AM) (new)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Gee, you can't really drop a statement like that then leave and not defend it. I have no respect for someone who would do that.

I don't like the ending to book 7 (the epilogue), I wish the camping trip from hell wasn't so long and that the final battle of Hogwarts was longer, but I wouldn't call the entire book crap. And even though I havn't read the fake, it could hardly be better than the original. Rowling created this world and series of books. Others may dabble in it (fanfic), some better than others, but I don't see how you can declare a fake better than the original. Especially if you havn't read it!

message 87: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) I doubt any fan fiction would capture the same writing style, imagination, characters, etc that the original author created. Even if you're disappointed with the story progression of the book, a fake isn't going to be any better. Personally I think Breaking Dawn was absolutely horrible. The plot is ridiculous, the characters way off, everything is wrong, but Stephenie Meyer is the only one who could write the right ending. It's the same with JK Rowling.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) The James Potter fanfic stories are the best HP fanfic I've read. But he doesn't just rewrite the same old characters. He's continued the story, following Harry's son's James and then Albus to Hogwarts. G. Norman Lippert has written 2 full novels and the third is due out in January. They are this group's BOM selection for last month and this month. It's not the same as the original, of course, but after I got into the book and the story started to flow, I forget Rowling didn't write it. He did a good job. The books are free and you can find them here: http://www.jamespotterseries.com/

This is exactly why I said I wouldn't be back to defend myself because I know people were going to get upset and be rude about. Just because its the last book in the Harry Potter series doesn't mean I have to like it. I didn't like it. That's it. That's my opinion. It doesn't mean you can't like it. In my opinion, the only great thing about it was Neville turned out to be the hero at the end.

But that's all I'm going to say. This argument could go on and on and on (which is another reason I said I wasn't going to defend it). So here is my only defense. My opinion, it was bad. Your opinion, it was good. That's the beautiful thing about the world, people are allowed to have opinions.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Teresa, can you read? I didn't say you had to like Deathly Hallows. What I said is that you have alot of nerve saying a fake book which YOU'VE NEVER READ is better than an original book by Rowling herself. And if you havn't noticed, you're the only one being rude here.

Okay i agree that the 7th book was lacking, most of it was harry running around looking for the Horcruxes. But i withhold my opinion of which book is better until i read the fake.

Okay im sorry but you are being a bit rude, there is no reason to insult Teresa just because you dont like her opinion

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) It's incredibly stupid of someone to say something is better than something else without having bothered to read one of the two items in question. She can't know if she hasn't read it. If that's rude of me to state the obvious, than so be it. I pointing out that she never bothered to read my statement because I never told her she had to like DH. Personally I'm fed up with people like this. She has no idea what she's talking about having not read it. She writes a post meant to start a discussion or argument, then flat out says she won't defend it. So why post it? I've had enough of this stupid crap. Goodbye. Leaving group so don't bother replying. This isn't worth my time.

message 97: by Annalisa (last edited Nov 06, 2009 05:15PM) (new)

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) Briansgirl,
Some people are just ready for a fight so they jump down everyone's throat and say everyone else is being rude when nobody is and in the process cause an argument. Even though she said she wouldn't be back, she'll be back escalating the situation assuming everyone is mad at her that she doesn't like Deathly Hallows when nobody cares. If you get upset that she's being rude, she makes it out that you're upset that she didn't like the book which just validates what she already thinks. The best thing to do is just ignore it. You don't have to leave the group. If the topic gets too heated, I'll close the discussion.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Thanks Annalisa but at this point, I've just had enough. If she'd read it, then she'd be able to discuss it intelligently. Forgive me for thinking that's what we should be doing.

Actually, I never posted that to start an argument which is why I said I wouldn't be defending it. And I think you're taking my statement a little too personally. And I'm sorry you don't want to be in this group because of it, but maybe this group isn't for you if you get so defensive over something so silly. (And thank you Christina. It's rare to find someone who doesn't flame me because I don't like the 7th book, so I appreciate your understanding!)
