Night | 2 comments This is what I've done:
I have this cover The Dante Trap by Arnaud Delalande of Dante Trap, which was not in GR database, so I added it. I filled out every box with what I found from the book. No copying at all.
Such as >> published by Phoenix, year 2007, Size B (7.6x5.1x1.1 dimension), first published in French in 2006. Total pages with running number are 391.

Then the system said 'isbn 9780753823781 already exists' so I just left it blank and made a Librarian Note that my version was Alternate Cover.

Later, I used isbn:9780753823781 to search GR and found a match with this cover The Dante Trap by Arnaud Delalande . Then I combined editions.

After that, out of curiosity, I searched Amazon and found that The Dante Trap by Arnaud Delalande (the existing ppb version) has isbn:978-0753822975 and was published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson; Export Ed edition (11 Jun 2007) --- not by Phoenix in May 2008 as in GR right now.
See Amazon page.

However, my version of The Dante Trap by Arnaud Delalande is also confusing. It has isbn:9780753823781 and published by Phoenix, I was correct til this part.

... In Amazon page and Orionbooks page said it was first published in 2008. Has 400 pages. But size seemed to be the same (B Format).

I double-checked with my physical book and still saw 2007 and 391 pages. (We count pages with running number, right? Cause the rest is blank pages.) So I was really confused now.

I didn't correct or delete any people's work.

Please help clarify this issue and tell me what I did wrong. I'm a newbie librarian with first-time update. Hope I didn't mess anything. (Am getting paranoid and headache now)

Thanks in advance.

Rule number one: check the librarian log. In this case, it looks like you had been the only one to make edits.

Rule number two: Amazon has a lot of data. Some substantial fraction is flat out wrong -- sometimes very wrong.

What it looks like to me happened in that the data had been incorrect on Amazon, was imported here, and then was corrected on Amazon. We have no autocorrect-from-Amazon feature (deliberately! it was messing with librarian fixes), so those corrections were not reflected until I just did an overide-from-Amazon.

As for page numbers, the physical book is always a better source than Amazon. Actually, almost ANYTHING is a better source than Amazon when it comes to page numbers. At least this one was only off by a small amount!

One further note: Always search by ISBN before adding a book manually. If necessary, edits can be done.

Night | 2 comments Ooh, thank you rivka. I notice that you changed the cover.

Just wondering...
Should we have the real book when doing updates?
For example, if I wish to add more cover to this Dante Trap--the one with white-background cover, published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson with isbn:978-0753822975 (according to Amazon), I can import the data from Amazon right away?

That's one of the things that the override from Amazon fixed, yes.

Having the actual book is preferable but not necessary. Searching by ISBN on GR will import the book from Amazon (or B&N) if it has not already done so.
