I'll warn you: it doesn't get less moody. It is the most depressing book ever from beginning to end. I read the whole thing because I wanted to figure out what was going on, then I wanted to see if they got to where they were headed.

I agree. I also give up on this one. I saw the film as well not to keen on that either. Tearful.

I'm sorry I wasted time on it. Thought it was a badly written book. I go against the pulitzer committee and say it was crap.

IF you want McCarthy at his best read Suttree, Blood Meridian and every novel he published before the 1990's.

After the Border Trilogy everything has seemed to have gone in the wrong direction for him.

No Country for Old Men was a very interesting little philosophical piece though.

I've been told that before, Timothy, and I may give him another chance - one day. He couldn't have established the kind of reputation he has today by writing stuff like 'The Road'.

Mainstream writers should not stray into science fiction, especially when they pick one of the hoarier predicaments there is as a setting (I was surprised that the guy didn't run into a woman whose name turned out to be Eve).
