Susannah shrugged. "Maybe it is a little then." she admitted, trying not to feel down by his words. He had moved on. Which is a good thing. she reminded herself.

Jacob touched the bruise on Susannah's side one more time before letting Susannah's shirt fall back over it. He looked back at the one on her face. "I know a way to help that," he said pointing to it.
BAD IDEA!
Alarm in his head blared but Jacob ignored them. He lifted Susannah's chin and turned it slightly so that the cheek with the bruise was towards him slightly. "Like this," he said, softly and repeatedly kissing the bruise.
Ok, so Susannah knew it ws stupid, but she thought it felt better. It may have been in her mind, or maybe she was finally losing it, but she thought the bruise felt better, and didnt stop him. Though, she knew she should.
Jacob's lips slowly and without him intending them to drifted away from the bruise and his hand turned Susannah's face so that his lips met hers.
Susannah pulled back. "Jacob, we can't." Susannah said, looking at him with pleading eyes, trying to get him to understand.
Dakota sighed, jumping up into a tree. She sat in one of the many branches and stared at the sky.

Susannah nodded "Good." she said, and scooted farther away from him.
Why am I such an idiot, Jacob thought looking at Susannah move away from him. You're only making it worse.
"So, what are you doing for college?" Susannah asked Jacob. That's such a stupid topic. she thought, but she had nothing else to talk about. She never liked talking about college, not with her mom, or anyone. College was when the people you loved all went to separate places. While the only person she was really leaving was her mom (at least at the begining of the school year when she decided she hated the topic) her mom was all she had had. Since then she'd made some friends, even fallen in love, but in her eyes that really only made the topic worse. So college was not her favorite topic.
"The pack," he said. "I'm one of the best fighters, so if there's another bloodsucker attack they're gonna need me."
Susannah nodded. "Interesting." she said.
Dakota was still bored. She jumped down from the tree after a while and wandered around.
Jacob leaned back on a bed post then thought of something. "So whose idea was dinner?" He asked casually.
Jacob nodded. "He seems to really like you," he said.
Susannah shrugged, "Aparently everybody but me seems to see that." she said.
Jacob shrugged. "It's probably just because it's you," he said. "If he liked Rebecca you'd probably be aware of the fact."
"Or everybody could be looking too much into a simple friendship." Susannah suggested.
"Possible, but unlikely," Jacob smiled.
Susannah rolled her eyes. "Well, it wouldn't matter, because I don't feel the same way. At least, I think I don't. Never thought about it." she said. Ok,so it was for show. If she were talking to a friend, she would tell them what she had told Embry, that she loved Jacob, not Caleb, but since she was talking to Jacob, who as now only her friend, she couldn't very well say something like that, so she had to improvise.
"Well he seems alright. And you guys could potentially make a good match," Jake said trying not to gag on the words.
Susannah shrugged. "Maybe. He is nice." she thought, for the first time she really thought about being more than friends with Caleb. She couldn't be with Jacob, but what was so bad about Caleb?
Jacob only nodded, he thought that if he kept talking his voice would betray how upset he was, tell Susannah to date someone else.
"You know, that's a good idea. Thanks Jacob. Maybe I'll talk to him tomorrow." Susannah said.
Jacob nodded again. "No problem," he said then looked over at the clock and stood up. "I better go it's really late." He touch the bruise on her cheek again then leaned over and kissed it again.
"Ok, I'll see you later." Susannah said, smiling.
Jacob turned leapt from the window, landing on his feet, then ran off back to his place.{{next day?}}
((Yeah.))Susannah walked over to her mom. "Mom?" she asked.
Her mom turned. "Oh, my god, Suzie, what happened to your face?!" she asked, looking closely at it.
"I...fell down a hill." Susannah said.
"A hill? Oh, I have to call your doctor. Something else could be hurt." her mom said. She called, and thirty minutes later Susannah and her mom were at the clinic.
Jacob had sent Seth to keep an eye on Susannah because he wanted to know what happened with Caleb, but he didn't want to be there. So he sent Seth in wolf form to follow Susannah and was in wolf form near the beach watching everything that Seth saw.
I should be a doctor. Susannah thought to herself as they left. She was right: she had a bruised rib that the doctor said would get better by itself, a bruise on her face that the doctor said would get better with time, and a fracture in her arm, which was in a splint. ((What day is it?))
I cant believe I did that jacob thought when he saw her arm in the cast. Did what? Seth asked.
Nothing, Jacob said.
Once she got home, Susannah paced around her room for a long time. She was debating on whether of not to call Caleb. She had never thought of Caleb that way, and still didnt really think of him that way, but what would be the harm of giving him a chance. At the end of an hour of pacing, she had the phone in her hand, but had yet to dial a number.
Jacob was watching the phone, half hoping that she wouldn't call
Call, call, call. Susannah thought. Eventually she dialed the number. "Hello?" caleb asked.
"Caleb, hey, it's Susannah." Susannah said.
"Oh, hey." Caleb said.
"I just wanted to say...how are you?" she said, stalling.
Seth inched forward and then he and Jake could hear the whole conversation.
"Fine, why wouldnt I be?" Caleb said."Oh, no reason." Susannah said.
"Hey, did Jake get whatever family emergency he had yesterday under control?" Caleb asked, honestly concerned, though he wouldn't admit it.
"Yeah, I think. Why do you call him Jake?" she asked, still not asking the question.
"What do you mean?" Caleb asked.
"Well, it's just that everybody calls him Jake, but Jacob is his name." Susannah said.
Jacob listened, intently waiting for the part he was dreading the most.
"Ever hear of a nickname?" Caleb asked. "Right." Susannah said. "Ok, Caleb, I didn't call you to debate over Jacob's name. I called to ask if...you wanted to go out with me." Susannah finally spit out.
"I thought you were dating Jacob." Caleb said.
"We...broke up." Susannah said, a tear or two falling despite her best efforts, and her voice going an octave higher, though not fully cracking.
Jacob watched in shock as the tears fell. He hadn't realized that maybe Susannah missed him as much as he did her.
Caleb gasped. "Did you break up with him, or he broke up with you?" "Caleb, I-I have to call you back, just...hold on to that thought." Susannah said, then she hung, up and stared crying. She had never said, it, but saying that they broke up made it seem so much more real, so much more horrible, even if she could still see jacob. "Stop crying, and call Caleb damn it." Susannah said to herself, but she couldn't.
Jacob shifted and got dressed, and was climbing through Susannah's window just a minuet later. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. "Please stop," he whispered, his lips against her head. "Please, please stop crying."
Susannah nodded, but she cried on his chest instead of stopping.
Jacob soothingly rubbed Susannah's back.
