Jacob knew it was a bad idea but he grabbed Susannah's arm, threw her up on his back and scaled the side of the tree and was at the top in just a couple of moments.

Susannah was just about to start yelling at him when she looked down, "Oh, my god! It looks soooo cool up here! I've never climbed this high!" she said excitedly as she smiled at him.
Jacob smiled back. "Glad you like it," he said.Kahlan watched in wolf form wanting to attack but she knew she would never get near Susannah with Jacob with.
God, he is so hard not to like. I've got to work harder at it... Susannah stopped smiling, and looked down, "Can we go back down? Don't want Rebecca and Zach to get lost or anything."
"Sure," Jacob said. He quickly climbed back down the tree with Susannah on his back.
Susannah got down. "Ok guys, let's go." then without looking back, she kept walking.Zach followed.
Jacob decided he was going to show off, he ran off ahead and lept up into one of the trees and jumped around from tree to tree getting higher in the trees as well as deeper in the woods.
That is sooo AWESOME! Susannah thought, then she shook her head, No, you cannot think that, you're goal is to hate him, not think he's cool, god, Susannah you're so stupid! she thought to herself."That's cool." Zach whispered to Rebecca.
Kahlan decided to take advantage of Jacob's absence. She stepped out in front of Susannah and growled.
Susannah froze. She took out her pocket knife, but when she looked at the wolf, it looked like a damn toothpick. "Crap." she muttered.
Jacob heard a growl and even though he thought it probably wasn't Kahlan he still headed back towards Susannah.Kahlan began circling Susannah when Jacob got there.
Jacob jumped down from a tree and landed right in between Kahlan and Susannah. "Kahlan stop it," he said. "It's not like i love you any less. I'm still imprinted on you. I just imprinted on her too."
Kahlan tried to move around Jacob and get a clear lunge at Susannah.
Jacob's frame began to shake and he turn to face Susannah for a moment. "You should probably move away for a second," he said.
Susannah took a few steps back. She was scared. Like really scared, more scared than she's ever been. But that's not the only thing that scared her. What scared her more, was what if jacob got hurt? Then it would be all her fault no matter how many times she would tell him it was his fault. But since she could do nothing, she wipped the fear, and all emotions from her face as she stepped back.
There was a loud tearing sound and where Jacob had stood there was a huge russet wolf. He bared his teeth and his muscles tensed ready to attack if it became necessary. Kahlan mirrored his movements, getting into the same attack position. She lunged forward just off to Jacobs sides and straight towards Susannah.
Susannah knew she couldn't run, that was impossible, so she crouched down, and put her hands over her head, so she resembled a ball. It was the only thing that came to mind.
Jacob rammed Kahlan off course and she flew into a tree. He stood over her not in a way that would be considered and harsh or cold, but in a way that was protecting of her as she got to her feet.Kahlan got and knocked Jacob out of her way and went for Susannah again.
"This really sucks!" Susannah said as she curled into a smaller ball, ready for the wolf to hit her. Oh, god, let her miss... she thought desprately.
Kahlan was right on target and wouldn't have missed if Jacob hadn't gotten in the way.He put himself between Kahlan and Susannah so that Kahlan smashed into him. Then he lifted Susannah with his teeth by the back of her shirt and placed her on his back. He took off into the woods and did what he had done before leaping from tree to tree, he was much better at that then Kahlan.
Susannah clutched his furr, trying not to fall off, "Oh, thank god." she said, "And you too Jacob." she reluctantly added. Not because she didnt mean it, but because she didnt want to say it.She kept her eyes closed though, if the wolf caught up with them, she didnt want to see it coming.
Kahlan followed on the ground so it took her more time to cover the same amount of distance jacob was when she had an idea. She ran off in a different direction to shift.When Jacob felt her shift to that he couldn't hear her anymore he decided it would be safe to take her back to Zach and Rebecca. He left her with them momentarily and when off to shift as well. After a few minutes he came back in human form.
"Are you ok?" Zach asked worridly."Yeah, yeah, fine." Susannah said, but she was shaking.
Jacob put an arm around her in both an affectionate and a protective way. "You sure you're alright?" He asked. "You look like you might pass out."
Susannah put her face i nher hands for a second. When she moved them she said, "Yeah, I'm ok. Thanks for...I'm not going to say it, but we can pretend you know."
"Sure, sure," jacob smiled. "I mean all I did was save your life. No big deal."
Susannah sighed, "thank you Jacob for...saving my life. God, that makes it sound like I cant take care of myself!"
Jacob shrugged. "Not against Kahlan at least," he said.Just then Kahlan walked up behind Susannah.
Jacob moved Susannah behind him to protect her.
"Oh I'm not here for her now," Kahlan said. "I'm here for you." She looked over Jacobs shoulder and said to Susannah, "Now lets see how much he defends you."
It took Jacob a moment to figure out what she had meant and when he finally did it was too late.
Kahlan confessed him.
"Command me Confessor," Jacob said completely forgeting about Susannah.
"Kahlan how could you?" Rebecca gasped. "He's he's your mate and know he has no will. How can you do that to him?" It took her a moment to realize how hypocritical that sounded but she didn't let on that she had.
"This has been a really crappy day." Susannah muttered. She wasnt scared. It wasnt that she was trying not to be scared, but that she just wasnt. It could have been sensory overload or something, maybe shock, but whatever the reason Susannah could not get herself to be scared. only the need to survive was there, but not the fear, which was good, because she could think more clearly if she wasnt scared.
"Hold her arms back for me," Kahlan said to Jacob as if no one had said anything. Jacob reached around behind him and brought Susannah forward. He grabbed her wrist and held them behind her back. A small part of him didn't want him to but he did what he was ordered by the confessor.
Kahlan lifted her hand and was reaching for Susannah's throat when Rebecca caught her wrist.
"Kahlan stop it," she said. "That's enough."
"Get out of my way Rebecca," Kahlan said flattly. "Or I'll confess you too."
Rebecca didn't doubt that Kahlan would so she dropped her hand.
Kahlan looked at her hand then at Susannah. "You know it's funny what simple things can do," she mused. "For example on touch of my hand and you'll be my slave."
"What's your problem? You want him? You can have him! I barley know him! It is not my fault this happened, it's nobody's fault! Why are you making such a big deal out of it?!" Susannah said.
Just then the confession on Jacob broke. Jacob looked at Kahlan his eyes full of disgust and fury, then at Susannah his eyes a little sad. He dropped Susannah's arms, turned and left."The two of you are idiots," Rebecca told them. She looked at Kahlan. "How could you confess him?" she said. "You were always telling me not to use my weaker version of confession and I stopped once I actually fell in love. But what you and Jake have is even stronger then Zach and I, but you confessed him anyway." Then she turned to Susannah. "Granted what Kahlan did was a thousand times worse then what you did, but all he ever did was try to protect you and make you smile. We all saw that you did seem happy around him. You were falling for him whether you'll admit it or not, and you broke his heart by saying you didn't care that he was fighting someone else he loved to protect you. I hope the two of you are happy." Then she went of to find Jake. Even though she had never been that close with him, she had known him her entire life and felt bad.
Susannah groaned. "Gosh, i dont even remember saying that! But I'm sure it could have slipped. I'm a horrible person! Oh, god..." she sat on the floor. I need to think she thought. "Zach? What do you think of all this?""I think that...I dont really know. I dont want to get into it, because then i'm sure I wont be able to get out." he said.
"Am i a terrible person? i think i am. Rebecca's right!" she said.
Zach sat next to her. "She may be right, but the way she said it was a little harsh. And no, you're not a horrible person. You just made a mistake, said some stupid things. Now you have to find a way to fix it." he said.
Susannah nodded. "Let me just think about what just happened for a second..."
Kahlan sat down next to Susannah and put a hand on her shoulder. "Non of this is your fault," she said. "It isn't even Jakes, no matter how much easier it would be to blame him, but... it's really all my fault."
"It's not. Not completely." Susannah felt she had to say this even if all she wanted to do was agree. "It is partially my fault. if I hadnt gone hiking that day, or if I had taken a different route, or if I had watched where I was going, and hadnt gotten cornered by those stupid snakes, then Jacob would never have helped me, and none of this would have happened."
"He didn't fall in love with you because he helped you," Kahlan said chuckling slightly. "He helped you because he fell in love with you."
"No, no, no, he had no idea I excisted before, therefore, if he had never seen me, stayed ignorant to my excistance, then it wouldnt have happened. none of it. Because I would still be the girl who hikes alone, and he would still be the werewolf imprinted with you and you only."
"Susannah you don't get it," Kahlan said. "He told me the whole story because he didn't think I'd be mad. When you left his," she nodded to Zach, "house that was when he imprinted in you. Then you walked into the snakes and he wasn't very well going to let you die."
"Gosh guys! I'm getting confused! What is our current problem, and how did we get there?" She asked. Everything was just a jumble in her head.
"I'm sort of confused myself," Kahlan admitted. "All I know is that I ruined the best thing that ever happened to me and prevented you from ever fully knowing how great he really is."Rebecca had caught up to Jacob and had talked him into coming back to where everyone else was. They passed into ear shot just in time to hear Kahlan's last sentence.
Jacob walked out behind them quietly so that they wouldn't hear then from just a few feet away he said, "Now this is what I like to see! The two of you getting along."
Susannah jumped about a mile in the air before saying, "Oh, my god Jacob, I'm soooo sorry! I truely am! i totally appreceate what you did, and I'm sorry I didnt say it before, i'm sorry if I hurt your feelings." Susannah knew she was babling, but everything was pouring out of her mouth, and she couldnt shut up.
"It's alright," Jacob said like it was no big deal.Kahlan laughed a little. "God Jake, you scared the crap out of me."
Jacob chuckled a little.
Kahlan got up and put her arms around Jacob who hesitated for a second before putting his arms around her. "Jake I am so so beyond sorry," she said. "What I did was terrible and beyond low."
Jacob held her in his arms, kissed the top her head, and said, "It's alright."
Susannah stood up, "it's not alright. What either of us did to you was not alright." she said, "Anyway, do you guys want to continue the hike, or do ya wanna go back home?" she asked looking at Rebecca and Zach. She hated to all mushy gushy with apologizing, so she just changed the subject.Zach shrugged, "Rebecca? What do you say?" he asked her.
"I don't really care," she said. "It could be fun now that we don't have to worry about my cousin confessing or murdering everyone."Jacob reached out and pulled Susannah close to him so that he had her and Kahlan in each arm. "I'm just glad that I don't have to worry about the two of you yanking each other's hair out."
"Fine, then let's go guys." Susannah said as she started to walk, looking around at her favorite senery.
Jacob snuck up behind Suannah, picked her up and put her on his shoulders as if she were five.{{srry it took a while -- multi tasking}}
Susannah put her hands over her eyes. "Oh, my god, I'm going to fall off." she said.
"Oh relax," Jacob laughed. "I'm not gonna let you fall."
"Ok, well, take a left here. If you keep going, you'll hit a fallen tree, and have to come back." Susannah said."How do you know that?" Zach asked.
"Because I've been hiking these woods since it fell." Susannah said.
"I know where the fallen tree is," Jacob said. "I've been running round in these woods as a dog for a long time and dogs have a better memory when it comes to location."
Susannah nodded, "Fine then I guess you know where you're going."
Jacob nodded but didn't turn. He kept walking and when he got to the fallen tree he leapt right over it.
"Ok, if you're going to be jumping over things, let me down now" Susannah said. That jump had scared her.
