There's a better chance of her coming back if I turn her. Alek said. But do you want me to turn her or would you rather keep her human?
Whatever you say, Alek said. He got out the agiel which was a challenge to hold. He tilted Rebecca's head back, parted her lips, and drawing power from the agiel, struggled but succeeded in producing the fine silver mist that Rebecca blew into Caleb.Rebecca coughed and gasped before her eyes fluttered open. "He said he wanted you to bring me back?" She asked surprised and Alek nodded.
Rebecca teleported infront of him. "You said you wanted me?" She asked him still in shock.
"I said you should be alive." Zach said, not stopping. Instead he walked around her, barely glancing at her.
"So you don't want me back?" Rebecca asked her heart falling apart at his apparent indifference.
"I. . .can't look at you right now." Zach said, walking faster.
Rebecca went infront of him and grabbed his arm. "Then why did you have Alek bring me back?!" She demanded. "Didn't he tell you I'd rather stay dead then come back to you hating me? Was it some kind of revenge thing? What letting me die wasn't good enough, I had to come back and suffer?!" She wasn't sure when it started but by the time she was done she was yelling at him.
"I need time to think Rebecca!" Zach shouted back. "I am so tired of you screwing me over only for me to forgive and forget in two freaking seconds just because I don't want to hurt you! I have every right to be angry!" then he kept walking, shaking his arm free from hers.
"I didn't say you had no right to be angry," Rebecca said. "I said that you should have left me dead."
"Yeah, well I didn't. Your death will not be on my hands." Zach said, walking faster.
"It wouldn't be on your hands," Rebecca said. "It'd be on mine. I knew I would die. It was my choice, and I chose you over me."
"Well I didn't. And I'm the one that sucked you dry. Like a monster." The last part Zach said softly, his voice suddenly changing from frustrated and angry to resigned and a bit depressed.
Rebecca took his face firmly in her hands and looked him directly in the eye. "That was not you," she said forcefully. "I did not give you the option to make that conscious decision. The only one anyway in the wrong is me, and you cannot blame youself for anything. Do I make myself clear?"
Zach jerked his head out of her hands and turned away from her. "Please just leave me alone." he said quietly his hands in his pockets.
"Not until you stop blaming yourself," Rebecca said getting back in his way.
"Well that's not going to happen any time soon! If you didn't want me to blame myself, then maybe you shouldn't have gotten it rolling in the first place." Zach said, and he continued walking, only a block from his house.
"But you didn't do anything wrong," Rebecca said. "What are you blaming yourself for?"
"Oh, I don't know," Zach said, his voice laced with sarcasm, "Killing you maybe? Becoming the monster I never wanted to be? Oh, but don't think I'm not equally upset with you."
"Oh no you've made that perfectly clear," Rebecca said. "But the only thing you've become is human, you're welcome by the way."
Zach refused to comment and simply took out his keys as he walked up the sidewalk to his house.
Rebecca followed him in, not done with the conversation.
Zach searched the house for his mother.
"If I can't make you understand that nothing is your fault," Rebecca said, "atleast explain to me why I have to be alive."
"I told you. I'm not going to be the one to choose whether you live or die. I'm not God, and I'm not you." Zach said.
"But I did choose," Rebecca said. "I chose to day, when I cut my hand, when alek was carving that circle. I chose when I went down to the basement, when I turned human. When I locked you down there."
Zach just shrugged, refusing to continue the conversation. He found a note from his mom saying she was out at the grocery store, and then headed up to his room.
"Are you going to hate me forever?" Rebecca called quietly after him, after stopping following him.
"Nothing lasts forever." Zach said, closing the door to his room behind him.
Rebecca turned and left without another word, not wanting to push him anymore.
Zach sat on his bed, and pulled his knees up to his chest, not sure if he wanted to cry or scream. So he did both.
Rebecca turned and looked back at the house, not yet far enough for the sound to escape her notice, and it took all she had not to go back.
Zach punched the wall, and then cradled his hand to his chest in pain, laughing almost hysterically at the sheer lunacy of the way his life has started to play out.
Rebecca went home and went immediately to bed, exhausted from having not slept in such a long time.
Once Zach had cleared his head some, he curled up in bed, and slept, his hand throbbing, but in a way that he'd missed as a vampire.
Rebecca fell asleep quickly but it was anything but restful.
In the middle of the night Rebecca sat bolt upright from a nightmare she wouldn't remember later.
Zach tossed and turned all night, getting tangled in his sheets.
Out of habit, before she realized she shouldn't, she teleported to Zach's room, still trembling from her nightmare.
Zach tossed and turned in his sleep, caught up in a nightmare of his own.
When Rebecca realized what she had done she began to back up, but she tripped and fell. She landed on her arm, awkwardly and snapped the bone. She cried put in pain and started crying, she couldn't help it.
Zach, startled awake, woke up screaming, only to find that once he'd stopped there was still someone crying. He sat up, and looked around, squinting since the dark clouded his vision.
Rebecca sat up, craddeling her arm. She tried to leave but the pain was clouding her thoughts and she concentrate enough to teleport, or even heal her arm.
Zach stood, and walked over to the person on the floor, asking, "Rebecca?" when he was close enough.
Rebecca nodded, her cries quieting but the tears rolling down her cheeks didn't slow.
"Are you alright? What happened?" Zach asked.
"I... I woke up from a nightmare and out of habit came here," Rebecca whimpered, "I'm sorry, it was an accident. But when I realized and tried to leave I fell and broke my arm."
