Zach simply rolled his eyes and didn't respond.

"You know since I can't see you, your silence is forcing me to assume that you are giving me the finger or something of the sort.
"I'd give you the finger if I didn't think it was kind of juvenile. Though I suppose what I am doing isn't much better. I'm actually rolling my eyes." Zach said.
Zach just shrugged and didn't say anything.
"Again I don't know what you're doing," Alek said.
"Would you?" Alek asked. "Right now if it were your only option would you drink human blood?"
"Really?" Alek asked, dropping a single drop of blood from one of the bags he had gotten from the hospital.
Zach found himself breathing deeper, even though he didn't really have to breath, just to get a better smell.
"I guess you're not so different from the rest of us after all," Alek said.
"Why won't you just go away!" Zach shouted, throwing a punch at the door as if he could actually punch Alek.
"Can't do that," Alek said, putting the blood bag away and wiping up what was on the floor with a paper towel.
Zach groaned and sank back down to the floor.
Alek pulled out his phone and texted Rebecca. He's almost ready.what r u talking about?
He's almost ready for human blood. I tested him. He didn't fight for it but he didn't dislike the scent.
Good. Keep testing him everyday. Hopefully he's ready by Thursday.
Once Alek put his phone away and turned his attention back to the door he was having a conversation through. "What was it like?" He asked. "Hating human blood one day and finding it intoxicating the next?"
"Terrible." Zach said, so out of it by repulsion for himself that he didn't care that it was Alek he was telling this to. "Disgusts me. I hate myself for it. If I had the strength, maybe I'd kill myself. It's only a small step from finding human blood intoxicating to killing someone, and I refuse to cross that line. But I'm not that strong. I've never been strong. And so there's nothing to do but sit here in self-hatred and silently pray that were I to ever kill anyone, the rumors of hell are true."
Alek was silent for a while not sure how to respond until finally he said, "You won't need to worry about killing people."
"And why not? What am I if not a monster? The fact that for a second that blood smelled appetizing is only proof of that. Fool myself as I might, you said it yourself. I'm no better than you are." Zach said.
"Actually I said that you were better that I am," Alek said. "But you starve the way the rest of us do."
"The phrasing doesn't matter. All that matters is the end result. And with me slowly driving myself insane in here, the end result doesn't look good." Zach said.
"You're just over reacting," Alek said. "This is what you are. You knew it when Jane bit you that this was what you were becoming. You are the only one whose gone this long without human blood since Carlisle. No one says you have to be perfect like him."
"Valuing life is overreacting?" Zach asked.
"If I thought that I'd be like James, but I obbviously don't because I eat animals only same as you."
"Then let me out of this stupid basement!" Zach said, hitting the door loudly.
"I can't," Alek lied. "You know only Rebecca can undo the magic on the door."
"No I don't. And you don't exactly seem to have tried." Zach said, still pounding on the door.
"There's no way for me to undo the spell and open the door," Alek said. "Its person specific only the caster can disenchant the door."
"Why is she doing this to me?" Zach said, sliding back down to the floor, his tone completely dejected.
"To protect you," Alek said, telling him what Rebecca had said to. "She's still fight with Rebecka and these spells are so person specific not even Rebecka can undo them."
"That's crap. Locking me in here against my will isn't protection. It's mean and it hurts, and I just don't get it." Zach said.
"You know Rebecca would never do anything that wasn't for your own good," Alek said after a long pause.
"No. I don't. Not anymore." Zach said softly, staring at the wall opposite where he was sitting.
Alek began to understand why Rebecca had tried to let Zach out those times. He sounded so pittiful in there that Alek almost considered opening the door for him.
Zach sat there quietly, feeling as if he were about to crawl out of his skin if he had to look at those walls anymore. What was the point of living forever if you couldn't live? Because being locked in a closet isn't living. He was simply wasting air that he didn't really need anyway.
The next few days Alek left Zach alone until thursday morning before school he dropped some more blood out of the bags infront of the door.
Zach growled and lunged at the door.
Alek cleaned up and left for school. "He's ready," he whispered to Rebecca as soon as he saw her. Rebecca gaped at him. "Seriously?" She asked.
Alek nodded.
It took Zach almost half an hour to cool off again.
"We'll do it all tonight," Rebecca said.
Caleb arrived a school shortly after.
"How was the darkroom?" Rebecca asked.
"Good. I got a lot of work done." Caleb said.
"Need anymore time in there?" Rebecca asked.
