Zach started trembling at the thought of what would happen if she broke her promise, particularly if that meant Rebecka came back.

Rebecca sat up and wrapped her arms around him. "It's okay," she whispered, gently rubbing his back.
Zach just shook his head. He didn't think it was ok, especially when the ghost of all the pain inflicted on his arm seemed to throb beneath his hard skin.
Rebecca took his face in her hands and kissed him lightly. "I'm right here," she whispered, "and I'm not going anywhere."
Zach stared at her intently for a few seconds, and then the tension slowly released from his shoulders as he relaxed and nodded.
"I am so sorry," Rebecca said, running a hand through his hair, "for letting her out in the first place. I knew what would happen."
"What do you mean you knew what would happen?" Zach asked, leaning his head into her touch.
"I knew I wouldn't be able to come back," Rebecca said, "and I knew what she would do."
Zach scooted away from her. "Why would you do that?" he asked softly.
"Don't you remember what was going on ag the time, with Alek?" Rebecca asked.
"Not really." Zach said. "It's all kinda blurred over with what's been going on since. I've been under her spell so much, remembering things that happened before has gotten harder, and telling the difference between real feelings and fake feelings is nearly impossible."
"Alek was keeping me under his spell, you broke it, he came for me, I used Rebecka as a way to prevent him from being able to," Rebecca summerized.
Zach nodded slowly, the pieces coming back to him. "Ok, I think I remember that happening." he said.
"But I knew when I let her out that I wouldn't be able to stop her," Rebecca said.
"Then why let her out at all?" Zach asked.
"So that I wouldn't have to think that I loved Alek more than I love you," Rebecca said.
Zach sat quietly, running all of this through his head.
Rebecca ran her fingers through his hair, waiting for him to say something.
"Well, nobody died." Zach finally said. "So I guess that's a good thing."
Zach shook his head. "It's alright." he siad.
Rebecca leaned her head on his shoulder and held his hand lightly.
Zach wrapped an arm around her. "Well Jacob and Susannah should be pretty happy about this new development." he commented.
"I should thank them," Rebecca said.
"For what?" Zach asked, struggling to pin down the facts in his mind.
"Getting you back," Rebecca answered.
Zach nodded. "Yeah, they did a pretty good job of that. Quite painful, though."
"It was like my head was ripping in two, one loving Rebecka, the other hating her. Very unpleasant." Zach said.
"Aww, you poor thing," Rebecca pouted, kissing his head gently.
Rebecca ran her fingers through his hair.
Zach leaned his head into her touch.
Rebecca grabbed her shirt and pulled it over her head. Then she got up, grabbed the agiel, wincing slightly as she did so, put it back in the box and tucked it away back in the closet.
"Do you mind if I run out for a hunt?" Rebecca asked.
"Do you want to come?" Rebecca asked.
Zach nodded. "Yeah, I think that would be best."
"Great," Rebecca said taking his hand.
Rebecca scooped his shirt off the floor and handed it to him. "You might want that," she said with a small chuckle
"Oh, yes. Thank you." Zach said slipping it on over his head.
Rebecca took his hand and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Ready to go?" Zach asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
Rebecca nodded. "There's just one thing I have to do first," she said. Then she led them out of her room andninto the one right next to it. "I am so sorry," she said once in Christian's room.
