"I'm sure my dad has had that thought cross his mind," Jacob said. "But he still gets to do stuff he likes, he goes fishing with Charlie Swan almost every weekend."

"Fishing. The ultimate test of patience." Susannah sighed.
"Well I cant do it," Jacob said. "But my dad's good."
"I can't do it either." Susannah said. "It takes to long, and I always freak out with the thought that the worm or bait may touch me when casting."
"Well that part never bothered me," Jacob said. "it's just all the waiting."
Susannah nodded. "yeah, that too." she said.
"Seth and Leah's dad used to go too," Jacob said. "He made the best fishfry around."
"Yeah. Fish that is fried," Jacob said.
"What's the difference between that and a fishstick?" Susannah asked.
"Fishsticks are battered, fried, and baked," Jacob said.
"Hm. You learn something new everyday." Susannah said.
"Well it is getting kinda late," Jacob said. "I think it maybe the time for sleeping."
"Sounds like a good idea." Susannah said, while internally, she was dreading having to try to sleep after everything that had happened that day.
"I guess I'll make up the couch then," Jacob said going to the closet to get a spare set of sheets.
"Alright, then you'll need these," Jacob said handing her the sheets. "And this," he added tossing her his pillow.
Susannah took the pillow and sheets to the couch, covering it with a sheet, and setting the pillow by an armrest.
Jacob changed into a looser t-shirt and lighter pair of sweats then went into the living room.
Susannah was sitting at the edge of the couch, clutching the pillow to her chest with her feet up on the couch.
"Fine." Susannah said, her voice breaking, but determined not to cry.
Jacob sat down next to her, lifted her into his lap and slowly rubbed her back. "It'll be okay," he said quietly.
Susannah started to sob quietly into her pillow. "How do you know that?" she asked quietly.
"Because I said so," Jacob said. "And because you need it too, therefore I will make sure that it will."
"It's all my fault." Susannah whispered miserably, not sure if she was talking to herself, or Jacob, or both.
"No it's not," Jacob said. "It is in no way your fault. If anything it's mine."
Susannah shook her head. "No, it's my fault. Balthazar killed me. If I'd stayed dead, my mom would be alive. And because I'm alive, she's dead. It's not fair."
"Stop," Jacob said. "You're alive Susannah and that does not make you mothers death your fault."
"Yes it does!" Susannah said. "Think about it. She was there to kill me. She got my mother instead. If I were already dead, she'd have had no reason to be there."
"You know what, I'm the one that had Rebecca and Christian bring you back so if you're going to blame someone blame me because none of this is your fault."
"I was stupid enough to believe Balthazar was Zach in the first place." Susannah said.
"Christian and I believed it too," Jacob said. "There's no way to know the shifters from what they turn into unless you knock them out and i can't go knocking out everyone you pass everyone pass as much as I would love to to keep you safe."
"I know, I know!" Susannah said. curling into a smaller ball. "It's just. . .it's easier to blame myself than it is to blame her." she said softly.
"Why?" Jacob asked. "It's her fault."
"Because then feeling like jumping off a cliff is my choice. Not hers." Susannah said, an edge of bitterness entering her tone.
Jacob held her tighter. "Please never say that again," he whispered, completely terrified.
Susannah just shook her head as she started crying again.
Jacob just let her get it all out.
Eventually, Susannah's tears subsided.
"Is there anything I can do?" Jacob asked.
"You're already doing more than enough." Susannah said.
"Well is there anything else I can do?" He asked desperately.
