Adrian and Balthazar were at the top of the tree outside Susannah's house in the shape of birds, watching, trying to decide how best to make their next move.

Jacob laid down on the ground his eyes never leaving the window to Susannah's room.
Susannah fell asleep early.Adrian and Balthazar landed on the windowsill of her room and tried to decide how to get in.
Jacob noticed the birds but didn't see any harm in them.
Balthazar and Adrian started to peck at the lock with their beaks.
Jacob barked trying to scare away the birds.
Balthazar and Adrian paused, but then continued pecking at the lock.
Jacob decided he'd try again before he assumed that there was something wrong. So he barked again, much louder.
Adrian and Balthazar flew to the tree, deciding to try to wait Jacob out.
Adrian and Balthazar sat in the tree silently, probably too silent and still for actual birds, but they didn't want to risk drawing attention to themselves either.
Jacob let his muscles relax as time passed and nothing happened. At some point during the night his eyes drifted shut without his knowledge.
As soon as they noticed this, Adrian and Balthazar finished picking the lock off of Susannah's window. They shifted into themselves, and opened the window, entering her room as silently as they could.
Jacob hadn't realized he had dozed off.
Adrian tied a gag on Susannah's mouth as Blathazar picked her up, and then they slipped out the window. They started running in the direction of the old jail Jacob had shown Susannah, wanting to scare her one more time before they finally killed her.
Jacob realized he was sleeping when in his dream Susannah didn't have a scratch on her. His eyes snapped open and he saw that lock on the window was broken and she was gone. He leapt to his feet and instantly started tracking them. He picked up on the trail but kept a distance not about to attack when he didn't know what he was getting into.
As soon as Susannah was awake enough to notice her surroundings, they were almost at the jail. When she saw where they were headed, she tried to scream, and redoubled her efforts to escape. It didn't have much effect, however when all Balthazar did was hold on tighter, and have Adrian hold her feet.
When Jacob noticed the way they were going was leading to the reservation he quickly shifted and got dressed before continuing .
Balthazar carelessly tossed Susannah into one of the old sells, and Adrian closed the door. Then they both stood back and watched curiously as Susannah started sobbing hyserically and trying to open the locked door, seriously hurting her fingers in the process. "In hindsight, we should have tied her up." Adrian said. "She's so scared of this place, she'd chew off her own arm if she thought it would help."
"Yeah." Balthazar said. "But it's more funny when she's not restrained, yet knows there's nothing she can do. Really messes with the mind."
Jacob came up silently behind them. He grabbed Adrian by the hair, then smashed her head into the wall. "Maybe she can't," Jacob said. "But I'm right here."
Balthazar turned to Jacob angrily as Adrian passed out and fell to the floor. "That was my sister, you jerk." he said angrily, throwing a punch towards Jacob.
Jacob dodged and caught his wrist. "And that's my girlfriend," he said twisting Balthazar's wrist. "A thing I learned when I was younger. If you take hold of anything on someone, whether it be a finger or a wrist and keep twisting eventually they'll either have to move with it or break whatever bone it is. Which are you going to do?"
"Move with it." Balthazar said, moving with the twisting of his arm to flip over, kicking Jacob in the face in the process.
Jacob dropped his wrist and took a step back to balance himself.
Balthazar landed on his feet, and said, "You're right, that's your girl. But which one is she?" he said, gesturing to the cell.Adrian had shifted into Susannah, and they were both clawing at the cell door equal expressions of absolute terror on their faces.
"Question," Jacob said. "If you're knocked unconscious do you stay shifted?"
"Never tried it. I just hope you don't knock the wrong girl unconscious." Balthazar said.
"I will," Jacob said. He pulled the two Susannah's apart and looked back and forth between them. "Which ever one is really you, I am so sorry," he said to both of them then knocked their heads together,hard.
Susannah passed out and fell to the floor.Adrian also passed out, falling to the floor, and shifting back.
"Well what do you know, you do shift back. Now this is interesting." Balthazar commented.
Jacob picked up Susannah and stomped on Adrian. He was positive he broke at least one rib, but he was hoping there were more.
"Now let's be reasonable." Balthazar said. "You kick my sister, I hurt you." then he kicked Susannah, causing her to fall out of Jacob's arms before he threw another punch at Jacob.
Jacob ducked then threw a punch at Balthazar's throat, hitting the wind pipe and cutting of his air supply for a moment. "Touch her again and it will be my teeth, not my fist," he said picking Susannah back up. "And get off my reservation." Then he took Susannah back to his house.
Once he managed to breath again, Balthazar picked Adrian up, "Three times the charm." he choked out as he walked to their base of operations in the woods, since going home would be too obvious.
Jacob sat on the couch with Susannah in his lap waiting for her to regain consciousness.
Susannah groaned when she woke up. "My head." she said putting a hand her head.
"I'm so sorry," Jacob said instantly.
"This is the second time this has happened today." Susannah said, sitting up and holding her head in her hands.
"I feel so horrible," Jacob whispered kissing her head.
"You shouldn't. It's not your fault." Susannah said, leaning into him.
"It is," Jacob said. "I'm the one who knocked you out."
"You did." Susannah said, looking at him accusingly. "What was with that?" she hadn't been listening to the conversation between him and Balthazar. She'd been too busy trying to get out of that stupid cell.
"Adrian turned into you," Jacob said. "I needed to find out which one was the real you. I figured if I knocked her out then maybe she'd turn back into herself. I was right and now you're safe."
"Ok, well that makes sense." Susannah said.
"Do you need like advil or something for your head?" Jacob asked.
Susannah shook her head. "No, I'll be fine." she said.
"I would say that you should spend the night here, but you've already been home so it would worry your mom."
"So how about we take the rabbit and I'll stay with you tonight so they won't come back," Jacob suggested.
Jacob carried Susannah to the car and laid her across the back seat with a jacket bunched up under her head. As he was getting in the car he picked some stuff up off his work bench and put them in his pocket.
