Just finished and really enjoyed Cool Machine, but had a few questions/quibbles about the ending: ***MAJOR SPOILERS***
1. I didn't really buy that the "Rabbit" would let Carney go, though I'm obviously glad he did, and weirdly a little sad about his ultimate fate. Anyone else? He was a coldblooded killer, but he also read like the Mob's Pepper or Pepper's Mob alter ego.
2. I've been holding out hope throughout the entire trilogy that we would get some hint that Elizabeth knows about her husband's side line. We didn't. And yet...what we did get is lots of hints that everyone in Carney's non-criminal circles knows about his shady side. So can we infer she does, too, and just never said anything?
3. Do we think Carney accepts the Van Wyck offer and relocates? Or is he staying put? (He's almost certainly not retiring. Then again, he knows time marches on and his store won't outlast him.)
