How do you all read more than one book at a time? Like I’m really curious. I literally can’t do it. I can’t keep track of more than one book at a time lol

Sometimes I get so caught up in a book that I need a lil break - so I’ll jump back in to another I haven’t finished yet. It really depends on the book though. There are times where I’ve read a book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down 😭🤣
⬆️ I just can’t lol. I’m determined to finish the book or I just DNF it if I just can’t get into it and I’ve only done that with one book
Omg! Same! It blows my mind that people can be reading 3+ books at a time! I almost have to devour mine in a sitting just so I can keep track of everything that’s happening! Especially with a series!! If it’s a long book, or series I even take notes so I can keep track 😅
⬆️ I try to read as fast as I can but I don’t think I’m a fast reader lol. I can read a book in 2-3 days if the book has 300-400 pages. Right now the book I’m reading is 700 pages and I feel like that’s going to take me forever to get through 😩 But people reading all these different books at once blows my mind!
I never used to read more than one book at the same time.. but then I tried it since the book I was reading was getting boring ( and i dont like to dnf a book). And I must say i liked it! I felt like I read faster when I had two books waiting for me at home 🤣
⬆️ but how do you keep up with the characters and the story and everything that’s happened when you’re reading more than one book? That’s what I want to know. Like how do you guys do it!! lol. Like I would seriously get it all confused
Thats why I would never read more than teo books at once🤣 But when i raad the first one i make sure to read at least 50 pages or more just to get to know the charachters like u say, orherwise it would be too much information...
I listen to an audiobook when I’m driving to and from work and if I’m doing chores and than I’ll read my book on my break or just relaxing at home. I never used to read two books at once because I thought I would get confused but I enjoy it
I can only read two books at a time if they are incredibly different! That way the plots don’t merge in my brain lol
I have a friend who can't read more than one book at once too. Meanwhile, I listen to one or more audiobooks (usually in different genres), read one or two physical books (depending on the mood) and have at least one in the eReader to read in bed or while on vacation or something
You multi book/audio people I envy you!!!! I really wish I could do it so I can get through my TBR faster 🤣
I get asked this a lot, and I'm truly not sure of the answer - but I have always figured it is the same as watching more than one tv show at once. I don't really watch tv at all, but i usually have 3-4 books going at once. I haven't never found it difficult to differentiate from them but I definitely do things that make it easier for me.
For example - I only read one book from a particular author at a time. The different writing styles helps I think.
I usually have at least one audio and one ebook going at time time. Commonly for me it is 1 audio and 3 ebooks/physical books, or 2 of each - although this is changing because I have all my audio books as ebooks too, so I often chop between reading and listening with the same story now.
I also try to read a bit of each book every 1-2 days, so the storyline always stays fresh in my mind.
I know a lot of people that read different genres and find that helps - I generally only read dark romance or horror, but often they are a different vibe in general.
I also slowly adjusted over time. When I got back into reading, I only had one book at time, but adjusted to two, and then it just kept increasing.
Sometimes I like a change/break from a story and so chop and change between.
The only time it gets hard for me, is if they all hit the 75% shit-hits-the-fan mark at the same-ish time. Because then I will avoid all adult responsibilities until all is right in my book worlds again - haha.
I know people that read 10+ books at a time, and that is definitely out of my ability. I think four is my limit - or at least it is at the moment. :)
Ashley wrote: "You multi book/audio people I envy you!!!! I really wish I could do it so I can get through my TBR faster 🤣"I don't know if it actually gets me through my TBR any quicker, because I find that i still read the same amount of pages a day/week, its just over 3-4 books at a time rather than 1.
So in the long run, it is still the same amount of books per month as an average.
I think... I haven't actually tested the theory.
I usually do an audiobook (for when I’m doing chores, cooking, laundry etc) and a physical book or Kindle in my down time. My audio ones tend to be more psychological thrillers, like Verity for example, although, I just finished listening to Satan’s Affair because I want to start reading Haunting Adeline after I finish Bad Bishop, unless Bad Bishop ends on a cliffhanger then I’ll read Twisted Pawn (no spoilers please). The different formats help me keep the stories separate and not mixed up in my head.
I prefer reading instead of listening when it comes to dark romance because it hits differently for me lol. I’m new to this genre and I’m absolutely obsessed. Like how did I not know about this sooner! I did read the Fifty Shades Of Grey series years ago, but that is mild compared to this genre. Dark romance is on another level and I’m here for it, and the dark romance girlies are amazing! I find the ones that are truly dark romance readers, to be the most open and understanding people I’ve ever met. It’s nice to be able to talk to other readers who like the same morally grey men I love and not feel judged about it. Like my people are here!!! Anyways, I feel like I went on a tangent. Happy reading 😅.
I can’t do audiobooks, I tried one time with a short story and I couldn’t grasp what was going on really, I’m a physical reader. And then I read the actual book and it made more sense to me lol. I was just curious how people read more than one book at a time and I thought they did it to get through their TBR faster lol. At my rate I will never get through my TBR since I stopped reading for a while and just came back to it recently and now I can’t stop. I don’t even watch tv anymore I just always have my face in my kindle now. I never got into fifty shades of grey, I watched the movie just to see what the hype was all about it and I was like umm ok. But I just got into dark romance and smut just recently cause it was all over my FYP on TikTok so I bought a kindle got my kindle unlimited subscription and it’s been downhill from there. And welcome to our dark romance world🖤 we’re happy to have you!

I also listen when I go for a walk or have a long drive.
It has to be a good audio book for me too - has to be duet or full cast. I cant do dual narration.
I prefer to read over audio also, but Corvin King is my weakness - haha.
Also, you'll be happy to know that Bad Bishop doesn't end on a cliff hanger :)

I do find that some books are easier to read than listen to.
I love a good accent in an audio, but if it is too strong, then I have to read along while I listen, which i love (I think its called immersive reading now?)
Reading will always be my fave though - but unfortunately I do not have the luxury to curl up and read as much as I want.
Good ol responsibilities getting in the way - haha.
Ashley wrote: "How do you all read more than one book at a time? Like I’m really curious. I literally can’t do it. I can’t keep track of more than one book at a time lol"I just wanted you to know you are not the only one with this issue. I’ve often wondered the same.
I’m also getting back into reading fiction again after a several year hiatus and to say that I am overwhelmed is an understatement. So many books I want to catch up on!
I will sometimes read a novel of a certain genre ( e.g. Recently, I read Devoted: A Dark Stalker Romance which was not very dark for me. I call it gray. Then, after, I read a BDSM type book, Black Velvet.
In between certain breaks/chapters of those I read small, short very dark) novellas from the Garden of the Gods series, by A.A. Dark. This worked for me bc they were so different and it was just 2 at a time).
I guess I am saying when I can read multiples it’s like @Cole said above, it’s different sub-genres and totally different type books to the novellas I am reading simultaneously.
However, I don’t know that it saves much time for me personally. Sometimes, I enjoy having the novella/s in between, again on occasion. (Especially if I am reading something very dark for me, or something generally not in my normal wheelhouse so to speak).
For the most part, these days, focusing on one book is best for me.
I’m trying to get into Audiobook but it’s a work in progress.
I can do different genres in different formats. So right now I have a horror on audible for when I'm at work, fantasy in physical for evenings or weekends and dark romance on kindle for our and about or in bed. Sometimes it'll be vice versa for the last 2
Loved reading (both fiction & textbook) until college. Then forced reading 6 fiction books in a semester, including analytical reporting, with debating story. It obliterated my enjoyment of reading fiction books. Which I missed, but now with audio, I can get back into fiction books. However, I'm fussy, #1. The story/author must be right. #2. The dialogue matching the character, with description details (not too short & not to drawn-out). #3. The narrator must be right for the character, their voice must be right, again matching the character. If all three hit the nail on the head it's amazing.
Omg it’s all so confusing for me😩 I’ll stick to my one book at a time lol. But those of you who can do more than one book mad props to all of you 🫶🏻
Yeah, I find it difficult to read more than one book at a time too, if I really like the books. I do sometimes put one down that isn't really hitting the mark, yet I don't want to DNF it, and pick up another one. Then later I usually come back to the one I put down later to finish it. But I don't really truly read more than one book at at time. I did like the comment that it's like watching several TV shows at the same time. But the thing is now that I stream everything I watch on TV, I don't start a series or new show until all the episodes are available to stream and then watch them all before starting another one.
I really can't remember how we managed back in the day when you had to watch a TV show the day/night it aired or you just missed it, and then you had to wait until the next week until the next episode aired.🤣
I listen to my audible when I’m on my way to work or doing household. And later I get in my book corner and read. Btw those audiobooks on my way to work. Not always a good idea 🥵🌶️🤪
I’ve stopped watching tv and have just been reading at this point I have too many books in my TBR that if I watch tv I’ll never finish with my TBR. And I can’t do audiobooks I’ve tried it just doesn’t hit the same for me as reading the book does and I don’t want to pay for audiobooks, and every time I go to look on Libby for an audiobook to try it again there is a wait time for weeks and weeks on end so I don’t bother.
Didn't read the whole feed just your initial comment lol, but I would say I've given up on the whole "keeping track" aspect. I enjoy the book that I'm in when I'm in it. I do love to sit with a paperback when I don't have it on kindle, but at night I use exclusively my kindle. The only thing I do make sure is that I'm not reading 2 different books that are eerily similar, like I'm not gunna be reading bridgerton on my kindle and the selection in paperback at the same time bc I'll be crossing characters lol and I'm not that difficult to confuse!
Ashley wrote: "How do you all read more than one book at a time? Like I’m really curious. I literally can’t do it. I can’t keep track of more than one book at a time lol"For me it depends on the book and my mood. If it's fantasy, I can't read more than 1 because my mind will literally disolve. But I can do multiple romances and 1 fantasy lol
You guys all keep saying the same thing and I just can’t do it lol I just have to focus on one book. I guess I’m not that multi talented lol
Ashley wrote: "You guys all keep saying the same thing and I just can’t do it lol I just have to focus on one book. I guess I’m not that multi talented lol"Its not a bad thing though - nothing wrong with reading one book at a time.
At the end of the day, you are reading - and that is the important thing IMO.
I think you just have to do it in a way that you enjoy and that makes sense to you :)
Ashley wrote: "I’ve stopped watching tv and have just been reading at this point I have too many books in my TBR that if I watch tv I’ll never finish with my TBR. And I can’t do audiobooks I’ve tried it just does..."I don't think i will ever finish my TBR.
I have this problem where I finish one book, then add another 12 or so to the TBR. I add faster than i can read...
I recently worked out that it would take me around 7 years to finish my TBR as it stands, if i read at my current pace.
But in 7 years time, I'm willing to bet my TBR will be bigger than it is now. YOLO.
