In the meantime, I'm a book fiend and read as much as I can-which is never as much as I wish. Trying to figure out the right balance between time to read and time to write. I'd love to hear others thoughts on that! You can find my blog at doctorcarriesbetterliving.com

I love reading and usually have several books on the go, one for pleasure, and some connected with my work. Although I love the look and feel of a real book I also own a kindle which I love and has had the effect of making me read even more.

I have just published my first book Shaman Pathways Web of Life which despite its title isn't specifically shamanism but I hope is for everyone.

John Hancock (johngregoryhancock) | 135 comments I write under my full name of John Gregory Hancock, because otherwise it'd take you too long to find me under just John Hancock.

My first book is out, A Plague of Dreams, Dreamwood Tales, Vol. 1 and I am working on the next volume.

It is an eclectic genre book, as each of the ten tales are vastly different in style and plot. But its the way I like to craft things.

I self-published, which is nice because from the moment I decided to write it, through editing, formatting and uploading it took less than 3 months. That was a bit fast since a couple of the stories had been previously published. I hope to have volume two up, but it might take longer.

You can get more about the book by checking my profile.

I have always enjoyed writing, but I make my living in Art and Graphic Design. Writing used to be just a hobby, but now I found it so liberating to do, and so much fun, I'll keep doing it.

Most of my inspiration comes from my dreams. It gives me a starting point, and then the story tells me what to write, and how it wants to be written. If I'm listening, it works. If I fight it, I have to start over.

Growing up a voracious reader, my initial genre of choice was science fiction, back when it was hard science fiction (early 60s). But I began enjoying Horror, Fantasy, Humor, Mystery, Crime Thriller, etc.

On twitter, I'm known as Grokdad and I have drawn almost 100 celebrities who have tweeted me. if you're curious, you can look them up at: www.artsprocket.com

I'm what's called a "pantser" in that I don't outline a story, I go where it meanders. I do have a rough idea in my head when I start, but often, the story takes me by the hand and leads me wonderfully astray.

Not sure what to say, but ask me anything.

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) Geez, John, it took me ten months to write and edit (someone else is doing the publishing) my novel. How many words is yours? Maybe I need to put my fingers in the keyboard more often. :)

John Hancock (johngregoryhancock) | 135 comments Abigail wrote: "Geez, John, it took me ten months to write and edit (someone else is doing the publishing) my novel. How many words is yours? Maybe I need to put my fingers in the keyboard more often. :)"

its 33000 words roughly, but its a short story anthology. And once I start writing, and get in a groove, it goes quicker. Also, I formatted it and uploaded it in one day. I illustrated it myself, so I didn't have to wait on anyone else. Zoë Sharp was kind enough to do a final edit for me, which took her about a day.
Also, my writing process is streamlined. I write, upload to my kindle, read it at night, and highlight problems, fix the next day.

But A novel is a different animal, and would take longer. Short stories, if you have the plot in mind, is a matter of getting it down on paper and then honing it in.

Keep in mind, though, two of the stories had already been published, so I only had to write eight. You might like the book. It was fun to write and even though the reviews are only just starting, they've been good. What are your books about?

Adi | 1 comments Hello Vincent
Thank you
My name is Adi Zohar and I am 51 years old living in Israel, a former IDF officer, educator and high school manager. With a master's degree in industrial engineering and management, graduate management schools. I wrote a book in the past, but recently I carried out a project that contains a science fiction e-book called "deep in the Holy Land ground". In the past two years, I've invest most of my time and resources in this project as I was intended to show the perceptual that a conventional book age has ended, so anyone who writes a book and especially sci-fi must insert a new dimensions in it. In my case I added pictures of many places in Israel and India that are mentioned in the book with links to You Tube and different possible reading courses as well as figures from the story that continue dialogue with readers on Facebook and a Web site where hundreds of links to articles and videos related to topics mentioned in the book. I like to invite you and show you my work that includes the book Web site
http://www.deepinholylandground.com/D...
and the book itself.
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/deep-...
I'd be happy if you browse them and read the example chapters in each. I would be very happy to transfer to you the full version of the book to get your review which I highly consider.
Sincerely gratitude
ADI Zohar

message 4747: by Timothy (last edited Feb 28, 2013 05:52PM) (new)

Timothy (timothyniedermann) | 36 comments Hello. My name is Tim Niedermann, and I have written an unusual book. I have posted a sample on Goodreads.

Wall of Dust is a novel of human spirituality, reminiscent of The Alchemist, though much grittier. It is a story of the pain of loss and the struggle to recover hope. Aisha, a Palestinian schoolteacher, becomes deranged after most of her class is accidentally killed by a missile fired from an Israeli gunship. She embarks on a strange ritual, throwing stones at the “security barrier,” the eight-meter tall concrete wall that separates much of the West Bank from Israel. She shouts the name of each dead child and hurls a stone at the concrete monolith. Beginning alone, she is soon joined by others and her little ritual takes the form of a mass protest. At several points she might be stopped, or worse, but she is helped in small but significant ways by several other characters, Israeli and Palestinian. Each character who intercedes has experienced a loss—a career dead end, a family estrangement, a crisis of faith, a simple loss of hope—that guides their actions. A sniper misses a shot, a teacher comforts, a stranger embraces, a father forgives, an Islamist relents. The chain of these events reaches its climax when a section of the wall collapses, with each character receiving a personal revelation into what it means for them.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Wall of Dust by Timothy P. Niedermann

Anne Marie Stoddard, happy to be here :) I've been reading through the comments and it seems there's quite the talent in this thread--and I haven't even made it to the others yet! You all are such an inspiration! Hope the book does awesome. Great setting for a novel. Did you ever work in the music industry?

message 4750: by Anne (new)

Anne Stoddard (amstoddardbooks) | 52 comments Hi Alex!

Thanks! Actually, I did work in the industry for several years!

Writing was my first love when I was younger, but I went the music route for the past 16 years before trying to write again. From the moment my mom put a saxophone in my hands in 6th grade, I've been a music nut. I played the sax all the way through college and then got a Music Business certificate and interned at a few venues and festivals (Lollapalooza was my favorite one to work!) before getting a job in radio in Atlanta for a few years. I don't work events anymore, but I work for a company now that runs reward websites for radio stations all over the country. I'm in charge of writing the music trivia :)

There is nothing quite like live music, though! When I'm not writing, I'm usually at a concert--I already have tickets to 4 music festivals this year, the first of which is next weekend in New Orleans. So excited!

What about you? Ever worked in the industry? :)
