Delinda McCann | 4 comments Hi, I'm Delinda, an avid reader and a writer. I read most everything. I write general fiction love stories with strong socio-political overtones. True Confession: I'm a social psychologist and often sound like one. My novels tend to be based on my adventures as an advocate for people with disabilities. Oh, and I have no idea how to navigate Goodreads.

Wanda Paryla (wandasparyla) | 13 comments Greetings, Writers & Readers! I'm Wanda S. Paryla and I write fiction & poetry. I'm a recently self-published author. My book, Someday Always Comes, is available on Amazon in paperback & e-book, as well as on CreateSpace. I live in the Chicago area with my best (feline) friend, Ganymede. I love to write, and sometimes I can't rest well at night when my characters keep writing while I'm trying to sleep!

As a matter of fact, the main character of Someday Always Comes, Tessa Price, has decided that she is writing book 2, & she would like her own Twitter account. :-)

I am currently preparing my next self-published work, tentatively titled, The Path to Anywhere, which is a collection of original poetry. I hope I can publish the poetry collection before summer's end.

Nice to meet everyone. Thanks for reading.

Steph, I find the popularity of vampire books interesting considering the times we live in. All considered, I can understand why people are fascinated with the concept of having their blood sucked out of them.

Oh I can so relate!! My characters romp around having adventures all night when I am trying to sleep. President Jake often interrupts my blog posts with his own opinions which sometimes gets me in trouble with readers. Jake did write his autobiography which interfered with my writing of Something About Maudy. Jake is totally unmanageable but I'm in love with him. Best wishes with your poetry. I am really enjoying the poetry some of my writer friends are publishing.

I am also the acquisitions editor for Smithcraft Press.

My first book was written at the request of the publisher, but they didn't do much with it. My second book was published by Smithcraft Press. Later, Smithcraft asked me to come aboard and it seemed like a great fit. I then bought the rights of my first book back from the publisher and republished a new and expanded edition under Smithcraft. My third book is by Axios Press.

My bio says this: Adam Byrn Tritt, MEd, CH, LMT, is a poet, essayist, screenwriter, teacher, social activist, and humorist. Tritt is the author of The Phoenix and the Dragon: Poems of the Alchemical Transformation, a collection of his poetry; several works of nonfiction, including Tellstones: Runic Divination in the Welsh Tradition; and his newest book, the delightful (and slightly disturbing) Bud the Spud.

Gary Goldstein | 473 comments Hello everyone.

My name is Gary Goldstein and I am always interested in being interviewed for my book, "Jew in Jail," as well as having it reviewed.

http://ning.it/Lk20hZ

"Jew in Jail," is about the nearly six years I spent in various New York State prisons for robbery, based on my past addictions to alcohol, drugs and gambling.

It details all of the trails and tribulations I experienced as a minority behind bars, and how I was forced to fend for myself while incarcerated.

"Jew in Jail" is truthful, insightful, educational, and at times even funny, all the while focusing on my attempts at rehabilitation from my past addictions, so that I could lead a productive, law-abiding life upon my eventual release.

"Jew in Jail" is recommended for anyone suffering from an addiction, a family member, friend, loved one, or co-worker of such a person, or anyone living with low self-esteem and self-confidence who is interested in a better way of life.

Sue Knott (sueknottauthor) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Sue Knott, an author of multiple books, an advertising copywriter, long-suffering wife, gardener, dog lover and probably a paranoid nutcase. (I prefer "worrywart.") Like so many happily married women, I am a single parent.

I've done a little (very little) stand-up comedy and hope to get back to that when I have the time. (So, that may be never.)

I think I may, quite by accident, be living a more exciting life than your typical suburban mom. I've been in life-threatening situations over a dozen times. I don't know if this is because I take risks (though, I really don't think so...see "worrywart" comment above) or I just notice what's happening more than the average person. I do try to sneak some of these misadventures into my books.

I write mostly parodies (because, why not write stuff that makes you laugh?), but I'm very excited that my first full-length novel is garnering great reviews here on goodreads. I'm less excited that I planned it as a trilogy and now I'd better get back to work on the second book. Whhh-kshh. Whip cracking. Must get back to work.

Zackery Arbela (zackeryarbela) | 3 comments Hello everyone!

My name is Zackery Arbela. I live in New England and am the author of a fantasy adventure novel entitled GAEBREL'S GAMBLE, the first in a projected series called THE NINE SUNS.

My website: http://zackerium.blogspot.com/

Description:
Nine Suns there are, nine watchers, nine masters. The worlds their children. The races their seed, the soul the shards of their intellect, the Empyrean the workshop of their divine labors. Who among us has the wisdom to hear their voices, to know their words written? Who can hear the Greater Voice beyond, the One who speaks to the Suns as they speak to us?

***

The Nine Suns. Where empires rise and fall in a storm of gunpowder, swords and sorcery. Where fortune awaits those with courage to seize it. It is an age of adventure...and an easy place to die.

Gaebrel is a wandering rogue always one step ahead of death, living by his wits and the edge of his blade. Taken prisoner by a cruel pirate queen, he bargains for his freedom by promising to steal a mighty treasure. Standing beside him in this venture are his fellow renegades: An exiled prince turned merchant, a former priest seeking redemption for his sins, a mysterious sharpshooter and hunter from a distant world. And two mighty warriors, one yearning for vengeance against the pirates who have enslaved his world, the other seeking to redeem his lost honor through glorious death in battle.

With this motley crew of desperate men, he sets sail on the boundless Empyrean, sword in hand and betrayal all around. Yet there is another who seeks the treasure: Ulzarad the Neverborn, who gains his power by devouring the souls of his victims. He will stop at nothing to possess it, destroying all who keep him from his prize.

Sword in one hand, pistol in the other, and a smile on his face...Gaebrel faces his greatest gamble. He will turn the tables on his captors and steal the Sparrow, the fastest ship in the universe. He will face betrayal, and charge headlong onto the killing fields of a war torn world, risking his immortal soul to save the life of a comrade.

War ripples across the Empyrean. Worlds gather their fleets for battle, while Gaebrel races against time to win freedom and fortune. A desperate gamble, GAEBREL'S GAMBLE...and the winner takes all.

Edward Enos | 5 comments “...we should be remembered for the things we do. The things we do are the most important things of all. They are more important than what we say or what we look like. The things we do outlast our mortality. The things we do are like monuments that people build to honour heroes after they've died. They're like the pyramids that the Egyptians built to honour the Pharaohs. Only instead of being made out of stone, they're made out of the memories people have of you. That's why your deeds are like your monuments. Built with memories instead of with stone.”
― R.J. Palacio

My name is Edward Enos, I never intended to be an author. In fact, I am very happy as an engineer. But a fateful day in June 2010 changed all that. My beloved and remarkable daughter Katie was killed by an elderly man with a colorful driving record soon after she reached her fourteenth birthday.

My daughter Katie was a good student, an exceptional athlete and a talented musician but none of that came easily to her. This bright, happy child worked very hard on her studies, trained both physically and mentally continually for soccer, never worked hard enough on her piano lessons (mostly because lately she preferred the guitar), and she never stopped reading, writing or talking. And yet, as hard as she worked and as focused as Katie was, her head would frequently be in the clouds, dreaming up another story idea or a new song. At times Katie was a study in contradictions. Some mornings I found Katie in her room standing quite still, silently staring off into space. When my wife asked her why she came up to her room, she couldn’t remember. Yet, each morning she came down stairs ready for the bus, mostly on time, with all of her homework packed neatly into their appropriate folders.

Katie was a dedicated athlete. Prior to her death she was training for High School soccer tryouts. Katie woke up early each morning usually before six am and would run two miles with a weight vest. Some days, Katie and her mother would walk together with those same weights. As they walked, as they did on that last day, they would talk. They talked about everything; boys, politics, clothes, hair, and religion. Katie shared so much of herself with her mother and I. She was equally generous with her brother. Later that same morning Katie drafted Max to play a game of Nerf War. Katie really enjoyed spending time with her little brother. She told me often how much she liked Max and how lucky she was to have such a cool brother. Of course, she also told me not to tell him she said this because like most sisters she didn’t want her brother to “have something on her.”

Katie trained so hard to be one of the best soccer keeper’s in our town. She had been told time and again by coaches and fellow soccer keepers, that she was too short to be a goalkeeper (she was only 5’ 2” tall). Many of them called her “Shorty”. Katie did not take this as discouragement, however. This teasing just meant she had to work harder. She had to run faster, jump higher, stop more kicks and knock down more strikers than anyone else. Yet, as Saturdays rolled around and I arrived home with donuts, this same dedicated athlete would break training and eat four donuts in one sitting.

Everywhere we went on vacations, soccer camps, or summer soccer games, Katie made friends. Prior to most soccer games, a member of the opposing team would run up to Katie and give her a huge hug and they would chat for a while, much to the surprise of her teammates. This friendly relationship did not make Katie less competitive however. Usually at some point during the game Katie would find herself facing down a bigger, taller player on the opposing team. She needed to stop this player from scoring, so Katie, usually the smallest player on the field, would run full speed at the other player. After one of these collisions Katie frequently remained standing with the ball either in her hands or at her feet. Most of the time the other player went down while Katie stood with her hands on her hips almost saying ‘oh come on you wimp – get up”. Katie was fearless. She was brave, constantly taking risks and a little crazy, as most keepers are, but should a spider appear anywhere near her, she would run screaming from the room yelling for Dad to “come kill the bug”.

Even though she was only just fourteen, Katie had already chosen that her life profession was to be a writer. She wrote constantly, with many story ideas plastering her room, on her computer, and stuffed in drawers and containers. Katie was also an avid reader, with a small library in her locker at school and a much larger one in her room at home. She would have been a freshman at Westford Academy in the fall. She is missed dearly and remembered by her family and by countless friends, teammates, and fellow soccer players.

Katie’s last noble act was to donate her organs (by her own request), which saved or improved the lives of four people. Katie was honored for this act by being selected as a floragraph honoree on the Donate Life float in the Rose Parade in 2012.

I am her father and I became a writer born out of grief, remorse, and regret. As part of my own grieving process, I decided that he had to bring to life the stories and characters that my daughter Katie had created. I was unwilling to let her literary creations die with her on that fateful day. Katie wrote many works but did not get to complete any of her writing.
My first book is based on one of her earliest efforts to write a full novel.

Katie had hoped to become immortalized by the power of the words that she had written. I have decided to publish this and many books to follow in this series in Katie’s name only. Even though I had to complete a lot of this work for her, (and though it was heavily edited as I discovered that I am not an English major!), it was her spark that gave the world of Articia and its people life, and it was her life that I used as inspiration for building the characters, their personalities, and their stories.

The final words I would like to leave you with are Katie’s. After consuming many of Katie’s writings, “Why I won’t be normal”, I would like to share this one with you. I hope it inspires all to not let anyone else define who you are.

Why I won’t be normal, By Katie Enos, June 7, 2010

I’ve been labeled before. I’m supposed to be a jock and then a brain and then one of those music/theater people. I guess I like to keep surprising people. But what kind of life can you live in a tiny square box? My personality is less narrow. I like a lot of different things. But still, people like to be able to put you in a category, to be able to place you in even rows and put a sign at the front. They think the best you can achieve is being at the front of your row…but why not form your own row? Isn’t that the definition of being a leader?

Maybe taking charge means something different nowadays. How come lately people think you’re a leader just because you happen to be at the front of the line? A good leader need only point the way and watch as others follow a direction, not a figure. A great leader can lead without anyone ever knowing it. A spectacular leader can lead without ever knowing it themselves. The person at the front of the line is the puppet of someone that you couldn’t name because someone else pointed the way. I must have missed something. I thought being a follower was letting other people shape your life. I thought it meant letting other people decide who you were going to be.
I won’t conform.

I won’t let people class me. Because once you’re there you’re stuck. I will be whoever I want to be, and no one can stop me. I have something they don’t have, which is nothing to lose. I have my entire life to live and I intend to live it the way I would like to live. I will form my own row. I will point in a new direction. If that means going against other peoples’ opinion of normal, then so be it. Who says normal is right? Normal certainly strikes me as a boring way to live my life.

You can find out more about Katie and the book I published in her name at www.kdenos.com

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 80 comments Hello members of the roundtable group. I am a relatively new member to the goodreads site and just starting to find my way around the site, discovering new places and people as I go along.

Primarily, I write fantasy, though I am told my writing accomodates those who would not normally enjoy that genre. I self-published my first e-book on Amazon kindle in early December and the second in early January, after they had been sitting on my hard-drive for many years being polished and then put away.

I was very pleased to receive five stars and glowing feedback from Ignite (some of you may know her). I am hoping to release a third book in around four weeks time.

Looking forward to talking to all here about reading, writing and anything else of interest that crops up. Hope some of you will check out my author page, take a look at my books, and if they sound like your kind of read, give them a go.

Wow, first line I saw & I've already found a book I absolutely must read - I thought I was the only person on the planet who recognized Aisha for the amazing, powerful warrior she was!
Me, I'm just getting ready to indie publish my first novel, a big, fat, sci fi story of love and betrayal. Right now, my growing concern is how to reach a potential market for a book that really does appeal to a broader audience.
Ideas? Suggestions? VERY much looking forward to 'meeting' you all.

Anne Orchard | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm the author of two very different books. The first is Their Cancer - Your Journey : A Traveller's Guide for Family and Friends. This book aims to support the supporters and allow them to process their own experience whilst being there for their loved ones.
The second grew out of my experiences of self-publishing the first, and is called Be An Author : What Would It Be Like If You Write Your Book. This features interviews with other authors as well as my own experiences and aims to encourage fledgling writers to take the step into publication. It has been published by Linda Parkinson-Hardman of Crystal Clear Books, and I'm currently running a giveaway for a free copy on my blog http://anneorchardwriter.wordpress.co...
I'm also featuring author interviews using some of the quiestions from the books as an ongoing series on the blog, so any authors who would like to be featured do please get in touch.

I, too, am so sorry to read about the loss of your daughter. That is truly a tragedy. I currently work with the elderly at my day job, and I know how difficult it can be to convince them to give up their driving licenses, even when it seems very obvious that they should not be driving :(

Heather Holland (heatherjholland) | 2 comments Hi Everyone!
I’m brand new to all of this, so still stumbling around the site finding wonderful little threads, such as this one :-)
My name’s Heather, and I’m the author of How to Get A Boyfriend I’m also currently working on my first romantic comedy novel.

I currently live between UK and LA, love to have fun, love to write, and love to make others laugh….(or at least smile).
I ashamed to say that I am not very good with social media or anything remotely involved with IT. I’m not on FB or Twitter…and right now I’m desperately trying to figure out how to launch a giveaway for my book here on Goodreads. Wish me luck!

Hope to get to know some of you.
Over and out.
Heather

Gemma Newey (gemmanewey) | 19 comments Greetings,

My name is Faye Cross, I'm a newly published writer. Currently I just self published my poetry -Essence Of A Dark Soul - and I am working on two novels at the same time. Half way through one novel, which I hope to finish and get edited and then published this year.

Lady Ellen has got it right - looking for an agent and publisher but all you can do is wait to hear, once you've created enough buzz about yourself.

I love to write but have noticed I don't get a lot of time to read lately - too focused on my work.

I hope people enjoy my work and keep on reading.

Eternally Yours
Faye Cross

Paul J. Kenyon (authorpaulie) | 11 comments Hello, everyone. I stated writing my first book after my involvement with the infamous haunted house located in Hinsdale, New York. I shelved the idea until I moved back to my hometown after 25 years living in Arizona. My story was published in 2009, and since, I've published one other book.

You Know They're Here by Paul J. Kenyon

Cold Secrets by Paul J Kenyon

Both are available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, and I'm very excited to announce, both are in production in becoming audio books! Being an author is a very long path to travel, but I'm loving every step of the way.
My newest novel, Heart of Darkness, the story of a serial killer is due out later this month.
I wish you all happy reading!

Denise LaBarre (deniselabarre) Aloha, I am Denise LaBarre, author of Issues in Your Tissues: Heal Body and Emotion from the Inside Out.
I wrote it for everyone with a body who wants to feel better in it and who is willing to look within for answers. They are there.
My book has stories, cartoons, exercises and the wisdom of a lifetime of listening to bodies intuitively and touching them with acceptance and love.

I'm giving away copies now through Goodreads. There is also an excerpt posted so you can assess the quality of my writing. I read voraciously and have also written two novels. I love good writing and I feel my book reflects that.
I put a blessing on the book for it to reach those who need it. If you are reading this, that may mean you.

All my best,
Denise LaBarre
