H.W. Freedman | 4 comments Hi everyone, I'm Harris W Freedman. I am a playwright, theatre director, screenwriter and author. I have recently completed my first novel, Irina's Eye, which is available as an eBook (now free on Goodreads) and in paperback. (190 pages)

The first draft of Irina's Eye was a semi-finalist in the William Faulkner writing competition for unpublished works of fiction.

Hopefully some of you will have the time to read Irina's Eye and send me your comments.

My plays have been produced in NYC, London, Edinburgh, Rome and elsewhere; my feature screenplay Broken Thread was produced by Deepak Nayar (Buena Vista Social Club, Bend it like Beckham, etc). I am currently in rehearsals as writer/director preparing for the productions of two of my plays in Rome Italy in Italian for January and February 2013.

You can learn more about my work on www.hwfreedman.com

I checked on Amazon. Wow! This is a compliment ... you scare me! I have a deadline now, but as soon as I have time, I'll buy your book. I don't even have time now to accept and read a PDF for free, but thanks for offering. I must say, the plot and the characters in your book are very different from anything I have read or imagined.

Hi Renee, You can find out more about Irina's Eye and download the book for Free here on Goodreads at the following link:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

Here is a short description of the story:

Vaclav and Irina (both 15) attempt to escape from behind the Iron Curtain. When Irina is shot Vaclav feels compelled to search for truth.

"Bohemian border with Bavaria, West Germany, 1948-- He should have known. If only he had trusted his intuition. That was the problem, telling the difference between intuition and fear, and he was not about to give into fear. There was no time; they had to flee and it had to be in that moment or they might never have another opportunity. They ran into the night."
Vaclav and Irina, both age fifteen, flee from behind the Iron Curtain. Irina is shot in the back and falls. He goes to help her but as he takes her in his arms another bullet enters her head and at that moment she orders him "Go!". He puts her down gently and runs. He reaches West Germany, then he travels to Rome and to New York in his quest for enlightenment and freedom from the guilt that haunts him for his soulmate Irina's fate.

Joni Fisher (jonimfisher) | 27 comments Hello! I am Joni M. Fisher, and I'm a writer. If this intro sounds like an AA meeting intro, well, writing is an addiction of sorts. I edit for two small publishing houses for print and ebooks. This year I published Phobos: Manned Mission under the pen name J.M. Fisher. I read literary and genre fiction of all sorts at the rate of about a book a week for fun. For samples of my non-fiction writing, see my website: http://www.jonimfisher.com.

When it comes to reading I love Stephen King, anything urban fantasy like Kelley Armstrong, Laurell K Hamilton, and epic fantasy like Tolkien, Gail Z Martin and Trudi Canavan.
I've only recently joined goodreads. As an author I like the idea of connecting with prospective readers and hearing their thoughts.

I introduced myself a while ago but I was tired and realized I had the communication skills of a chimpanzee. I thought I'd try again, this time with feeling =P

My name is L.W. Patricks and I’m the spawn of a typewriting chimp and a literary ninja, feeding on the souls of Unicorns to fuel my ideas. Okay, some of that maybe a lie, but really. I’m a fun and honest individual =). My current favorite books are the Book Thief by Markus Zusak, the Game of Thrones series, Life of Pi, and anything that’s different and outstanding.
I’m also an author; publishing in the genre I love of Young Adult. I’m ecstatic to be a part of this group and looking forward to adding a ton of books to my reading shelf. Feel free to add me as a friend and we can chat about anything from books to pandas to robot ninjas.

M.L. Chesley (melchesley) | 49 comments Hello! My name is Mel Chesley. I write high fantasy as M. L. Chesley. I just had a book release, 'Adversarius, Shadow of the Rose: Book One' on the 7th of December. It is ebook only, right now, on Amazon and Smashwords. I have a blog where I talk about my publishing journey, whine a little bit and do book reviews. (www.caledonialass.blogspot.com) I'm also a part of a group on Facebook called Word Weavers. We do all sorts of promotional stuff for authors and try to spread the word about their books, blogs, websites, etc.
I've been on Goodreads for some time but still trying to figure out things, so any advice is always welcome!

message 4217: by Contel (new)

Contel Bradford (contelbradford) | 11 comments I'm Contel, better known as Count, from Detroit. I'm a freelance writer and author of multiple books. I write so much stuff that I don't even like to restrict myself to one category. For example, I've got books that some might call urban fiction or street lit, and other stuff that borders on the line of erotica and romance. Then I've been experimenting with some darker, paranormal type stuff in the way of short stories.

I also like to read multiple genres, so don't hesitate to connect on a deeper level. I'm buying books all the time and always looking to support other authors.

Peace!

message 4218: by June (new)

June Stevens (curvywriter) | 7 comments I'm DJ Westerfield. I write in multiple genres under three different pennames. As myself I write nonfiction books for writers. As Delinda Jasper I write contemporary romance (some spicy). As June Stevens I write paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I do the "DJ Westerfield writing as" thing these days to be able to link my June Stevens books with both names here and on Amazon.

My first full length paranormal/urban fantasy novel, Voodoo Moon, is set to release in June of next year, but is available for preorder now. You can take a look at my website http://junestevens.com to find out where it can be preordered.

I also have a blog where I do the occasional book review and other fun stuff: http://curvywriter.info.

As for reading I am a big paranormal/fantasy/sci fi/romance fan.

Ryan (ryanphilbrook) | 7 comments Hey everybody, my name is Ryan Philbrook, and I'm new to this whole 'forum' thing. But! I'm looking forward to hopefully connecting with a lot of new people on here and talking about their books, my books, and really just writing in general.

I enjoy writing primarily mystery and horror, with a dash of the paranormal sometimes thrown in for good measure. My first published novel, "Summer Falls", was just released on the 11th, and I'm stoked!

Summer Falls by Ryan Philbrook

Summer Falls is about the things we hold onto, the things we keep, and what they say about us.

Privacy is an illusion.

There is a wall between each of us. The bigger the group we find ourselves in, the safer and more isolated we feel. Those who seek out conversations with strangers are often rebuked, more than often ignored, and only sometimes acknowledged.

We call this ignorance of our neighbors, 'Privacy'.

But what if there were a way to know someone, to learn about them on a personal and intimate level without them ever realizing you were there?

There is. Because something is watching you.

Memories are not the only things we carry with us. In Summer Falls, there is no such thing as 'behind closed doors'.

In Summer Falls... you're not as alone as you think.

D. J., you sound like me. I write under two different pen names but only to differentiate slightly the level of erotic play. I think. I forgot what I did with Alexandria Rayne's persona LOL!

But I also write books for writers. Nothing published on that front yet, but I've been teaching for the last several years to RWA chapters and other online groups, plus making panel appearances at conventions. Ever do DragonCON?

I've never done DragonCON. I hope to maybe next year after Voodoo Moon has been released. I do a lot of classes and one-on-one teaching. I do self-publishing consulting and live near a retirement community, so I do classes for older people who want to publish memoirs or childrens books they've written.

I did RomCon in 2010, its first year. It was so much fun. Did the Erotica Authors panel... did a reading from a short story while volunteers "acted" it out...so much fun!

My early stuff with Delinda Jasper was erotic romance but when the last publisher that had them went out of business I took them all down. Now it's just "spicy" romance. Same amount of sex and heat level, just without a couple of words some find "offensive".

Kim Flowers | 10 comments Hi! My YA novel No Turning Back is a free e-book today and I wanted to share the link: http://www.jms-books.com/index.php?ma...

The story is about 13 year old Ash who runs away from a foster home to find her brother. On the way she meets abused siblings Dayna and Kevin and decides to take them with her. On their journey, Ash discovers she is falling in love with Dayna. But will Ash be able to keep her new family together?

It can take some time because most of them are booked up months in advance. That is one reason getting the book ready early and sending out advanced review copies is a good idea. Don't despair! It sometimes takes a little time for success. Just keep doing the rounds, find new bloggers, blog yourself, just keep at it! :) The biggest thing is don't give up!

message 4248: by Bobbye (new)

Bobbye Hudspeth (bobbyesox) | 16 comments This feels a bit like I imagine AA meetings to be. My hand is in the air (ok, not really, for how would I type?) as I say "Hello. My name is Bobbye and I am a reader who writes. And a writer who reads."

I've been fairly well published in the non-fiction world, but good heavens! what a culture shock it has been to have my first novel appear on Amazon a week ago. I thought when I typed "The End" that the worst was behind me. Ha.

My book "Behind the Grey" went live on Amazon last Saturday...a huge thrill for me. But, sadly the magic moment was followed by a personal crisis (very sick husband and consequent daily doctor/hospital visits ever since and for the near future) so I have done zero marketing for it. I have been stunned to have received reviews already, as I haven't even sent out the personal mass email to family and friends telling them it is there.

I feel so very lucky to have found such a wonderful, nurturing "family" here at Goodreads. I look forward to reading ALL of your books. (Don't laugh, it's even more likely now that I have so much time ahead sitting in waiting rooms with Kindle in hand. And my average is a book a day even in "normal" times.) I'm always happy to read a book in exchange for giving an honest review. And I offer free copies of mine on that same "deal." Just tell me when and where.

My book, "Behind the Grey," is the story of a young Southern woman who marches into the midst of the Civil War disguised as a man, hoping to avenge a personal wrong as soon as she finds one particular man in blue. Her journey brings her the unexpected opportunity to step outside the only skin she has known and discover who she really is—without the trappings of wealth and femininity and far from the safe cocoon of home. Along the way she realizes that revenge isn’t sweet if it threatens to cost your soul, and that truth -- and love -- will always find you even when you're not sure how to find yourself.

There's a free chapter on my website www.bobbyehudspeth.com if you'd like to check it out, and maybe leave a note saying hello in my (fledgling) blog. I feel very very alone right now! Thank you all for 'being here.'
