I know this is off topic, but does anyone know how one would offer a book for review here at goodreads? I would appreciate it thanks!

I am in one called Making Connections, which I used to give three review copies of my book away. It's under their 'Author's Requesting Review (AAR)' Programme.
I hope this helps.
Why go to another group when you can do the same thing in this group?
;)
I've created a post in the Bulletin Board section where authors can give free copies of their books in exchange for reviews. Here is the quick link: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Please follow the rules listed on the post.

Vincent, I want to make sure I understood you. Can you actually offer free copies of the book in exchange reviews in this particular group? Please let me know thanks :-)
Hi everyone,I'm new to this group, still finding my way around. I'm an author (and reader, of course) - my debut novel is called Can't Live Without and is doing quite well here on Goodreads and is available on Kindle and in paperback. Looking forward to finding some great new books to read, and to connecting with other authors.

Nice!
Hi, My name is Stuart. I've written and illustrated two adventure stories for children about an old car called 'Austin'. I'm presently writing the closing chapters of the third of the series. I live in Kent, England, and enjoy spending my Sundays donning walking boots and walking with friends through the beautiful countryside and footpaths of Kent and Sussex. I love science fiction, fantasy and 'Boy's Own' style adventure fiction, which reflects in my writing. When I'm not writing magazine articles or stories or walking, I enjoy model flying, the cinema and messing about with my real-life 1932 Austin Seven. This is my blog - 'Bill's Blog' www.exciting-stories.co.uk/monty Cheers, Stuart

Hi G,
Yes, that is correct. You can offer free copies of your books in exchange for reviews. But do read the rules I've posted about it in the Bulletin Board section (eg. the reviews must be fair--what the reader really felt about the novel).

Hello everyone.I'm an indie author (otherwise unemployed since April this year). Since I was about twenty-two I've written several books in a variety of genres. Although I've been writing for many years (rather more than I want to admit, even to myself), last year I finally decided to bite the bullet and try to get one published. Perhaps my stamina isn't what it should be, but after a fairly cursory attempt at getting an agent/publisher I decided instead to publish my book on Amazon Kindle.
The Testing of Archie Rathbone is a humorous fantasy novel (allegedly for Young Adults, but that's a moot point, as you can see from the Amazon reviews). It's received a smattering of reviews on GR and on Amazon itself, and on balance they seem encouraging. If anyone is interested in reading it, I'll try to keep you informed of promo days on Amazon.
I'm now about a third of the way through writing my next book - The Watchmaker's Chain - a SF Thriller. More on that another time perhaps (if anyone's interested) ;o)

Hey everyone! I'm Aa'Ishah, I love reading YA and took that love a bit further a few months ago by starting a blog. :)
Hi, everyone! I am currently writing my first novel, a contemporary romance. I'm also a veterinarian and my side project is a nonfiction book--writing what I know! Looking forward to quality interaction with published authors, aspiring-to-be-published authors, and readers!
Hi, I'm Hilary West and have been on Goodreads a few months now, but just joined this group. I have a blog on here, I update erratically. Good day, I'm Sean Pol MacUisdin and I write science fiction (almost sounds like a confession). In order to fund this career, I serve in the Royal Canadian Navy (currently ashore but not for much longer) I have one full length novel, Europa Rising, and two novellas, The Scarlet Bastards and Fremantle Freya. I have a sequel novel in editing (Jupiter Rising) as well as a third novella underway, Tong, Triads, and Tin Pot Battleships. In between all of this, I'm rather fond of hiking, backpacking, and kayaking... oh, and gardening.
Hi all,I'm Stephen and after years of reading one book a week, I dove headfirst into writing. My first book -- a cozy mystery titled "It Takes Two to Strangle" -- has been published by Cozy Cat Press.
Glad to meet all of you!

Hi Vincent,
I'm Chris. I'm 30 and I live in Texas with my wife, our son, and our two beagles. I'm a screenwriter and an aspiring novelist and I just recently started writing a science fiction/fantasy novel titled "Dependent Days". I plan to serialize it on Amazon when I'm done. I've written the first 100 pages and I posted the first two chapters on my goodreads home page in hopes that people will read them and offer feedback.
Hi everyone!Long time reader, first time writer (a sci-fi/fantasy/speculative fiction novel available on Amazon). I'm always on the lookout for new authors and books to read, and this looks like just the place to find both.

A Question of Will
I have no idea if I already introduced myself and I sure the hell am not going through 79 pages to check!...Well Hello,
I'm Nora aka the Diva. I am a reader not a writer, I don't have the ambition or talent to be a writer. I can be a bit abrasive but you get used to me ;)
I will attempt to read almost anything set in front of me.. lol, with the exceptions of YA or Romance. Although if I purchase a book it's in the horror or suspense/thriller genres.

Dear Friends an update on the movie project from my book Stilettos and Steel first fox Studio notes
What a script! I literally didn’t want to put it down, and, when I was forced to do so for a prior engagement, I couldn’t wait to get back to see how it would turn out. It definitely feels like a movie. Is it autobiographical? The milieu has an air of authenticity that suggests someone actually lived through it.
My long-term advice would center on dialing back the action element with Prince a notch or two to better develop the romantic triangle among Jesse, Carmen, and Bunny. There are plenty of movies about heterosexual male gangsters shooting each other up in turf wars. What’s unique and fascinating here is the psychology of these women. Carmen keeps disappearing for big chunks of time, and we don’t learn that Bunny is actually in love with Jesse until 100 or so pages in. A more emotionally intense take that puts the three of them in more intimate contact could be really incendiary. There’s also potential to make Clancy a more active player in the equation. He simmers with unrequited love for 125 pages, mainly doing favors for Jesse, but it might be more interesting if he got fed up and pissed off at some point. Throughout, we need as much emphasis on what Jesse is feeling as what she’s doing. It’s her emotional arc that’s the heart of the movie for me.

Hi all! I am a writer and an avid reader, at the moment I am helping a dear friend of mine write her memoirs - the first releasing at the end of Oct as well as a contempory romance/drama. I spend far too much time living in the fantasy land of either mine or someone elses creation but I love it. :)
Hello Vincent. I have been an avid reader of sci-fi/fantasy for as long as I can remember. For me, reading was the in house thing to do when the weather outside kept us kids from playing some type of sport. I have always dreamed of sitting down and writing a story that was bouncing around in my head and a few years ago, I decided to make that a reality. My first book, Embrace, is the first book in a Sci-Fi series titled The Epherium Chronicles. I plan release it on Oct 5, 2012 via Smashwords and Amazon KDP. I really wanted to take the time to have readers get an interest in it first. I have lots of friends who revel in Sci-fi/fantasy story or RPGs and those who have read it, absolutely love it. But friends and family, aside, finding more independent feedback is always a challenge. To that end, I posted the prologue and first chapter here on Goodreads. Still a bit nervous about what I might here, but I will take anything, good and bad at this point.T.D. Wilson

Welcome new members, this is a great group! You can get help and advice, get a word in on threads and express your opinion or learn and get to know new people. So again on behalf of everyone, welcome to all new members! :D
Hello all!I came across this group via a link to epublishers and POD services, and liked the discussions. My first novel, The Five Watchers, is out now and available fee gratis on Smashwords until October 31. My preferred area is speculative fiction, and I write across the spectrum--anything from ghosts to robots and everything in-between. The Five Watchers is a parnormal thriller, and my second is a dark fantasy. Vampires and zombies and humans, oh my. I have about 20K of a sentient robot novel in progress as well. Yep, I'm backlogged.
Looking forward to meeting other authors and readers!
Curran wrote: "Tara wrote: "Hi everyone! I'm Tara Neideffer and I love to write and read anything that is scary. I love Stephen King novels. I have just published my first novel, Deadly Road, on Amazon, which is..."
Thanks Curran! I just saw your post :) I also like to read John Saul books as well, so that's a nice comparison.
I have only written one book, but I've read many (a lot more than I have listed on my bookshelf). I always have a book on hand. I read mainly the classics when it comes to fiction, and scientific writings when it comes to non-fiction. When it comes to modern literature, I don't really take too many chances since I think that most new books are probably not worth reading. Something would have to be highly recommended by someone I trust to read anything new.
I also read a lot of chess books, but I have not listed them on my shelf. I don't think chess books are in the same category as other books.
Alexis wrote: "I have my favorite art books on my shelves; if it's something that I can sit down to page through over and over again, I think it counts, doesn't it? "
I do think that art books count. Music and the arts have always been considered part of the intellectual realm. If I had art books, I would probably list those as well.
But there is a difference. When it comes to a list of art books, others can see from the list the types of art you enjoy, your favorite artists, and other things of that nature.
I think that if I list my 300 chess books, it would probably achieve the same effect as listing a handful of chess books, i.e. it would simply let people know I enjoy chess. The various chess openings and players that I like starts to become way too esoteric for most.
I see where you are coming from with your analogy, but I still feel that it is different somehow. Laziness may also come into play here, since it is a bit of a task to list all of my chess books.
Thank you. I know, I'm a bit of a weirdo. I have my own strange logic that doesn't seem to make sense to most other people.
Hi, I have written two books - a murder mystery, Passion Killer, and a horror, Shadows of the Dead. I am currently writing my third, a thriller, Thief of Hearts.I also have a short story in the upcoming anthology of the Javawriters' Group. The book is called Infusions and my story is called Dance into Danger.
I am an avid reader and will get to all the books in my ever-growing to read list - eventually.
Hi folks, I'm Matthew, and It's great to meet you all. I'm just discovering goodreads, but so far it has been a great experience. Everyone is really friendly, and I'm already engaging with other authors and readers.Fifty/Fifty and other stories
