I've also just started working on my first novel, so I don't have many fun author tales to tell just yet.
Looking forward to reading and writing with you all!

Danielle,
I have sent you a friend request. I thought you might like to hear some of my ramblings about the highs and lows of starting out on your first novel. I have made a lot of mistakes that you might find interesting, amusing, helpful.
Hi all,I'm Carolin, a keen reader since I was a child. Mainly romance, historical fiction, fantasy, thrillers, classics... all kinds of genres, really! There is so much to learn and feel and experience when reading books :)
I've been writing fanfiction for years and just recently published my first novel, "Alaskan Heartbeat", which is so exciting!
----
They are not looking for love—but what if love finds them anyway?
When Matt Johnson returns to Takaani Creek, Alaska, the former SEAL is seeking solace in his hometown. The war has left him hurt—inside and out. Curvy redhead Emma Nolan, freshly heart-broken and struggling with self-doubt, isn’t expecting anything more than a quiet summer to heal.
Their first meeting is anything but love at first sight and romance is definitely not on the agenda! But as the long Alaskan days pull them together, they begin to see past each other’s scars.
With challenges and old wounds threatening to keep them apart, Matt and Emma must decide if they’re ready to take a leap of faith.
Can love really conquer all?
This romance novel will bring you laughter, tears and excitement. Fall in love with Matt and Emma as they fall in love with each other.
You won't want to put the book down!

Hi!I'm Mary and I'm from Northern Ireland, U.K.
And I would like new book friends.
I'm on here daily and would like new book friends. I like to read most genres of books 📚
Hello Mary, please to meet you. I'm Anderson Reynolds from St. Lucia. I did a book launch in your neck of the woods (London) in December 2023.

I am Virginia Gruver and I am from Iowa, US. Most people assume you live on a farm in Iowa. The only time I did was when I was a baby so have no memory of that time. I have mainly used Goodreads to keep track of my books. I became a serious book review blogger after I retired. I read most genres. I do write and have been published but not in novel length. I had a short story published in a literary magazine. I also won a short story contest a year ago at a writer's conference. I had a column in a local paper. My editor said it reminded her of Erma Bombeck. I also wrote articles for a Women's magazine. I find it difficult to balance reading and writing because I love both. I try to post two reviews a week on my blog - Blind Date with a Book. You can find it at Virginia-Gruver.com.
Hello, Dear Friends!I'm Shahab Khan, a dreamer, storyteller, and eternal seeker of magic in the ordinary. Ever since I was a child, I've believed in the extraordinary power of stories to transport us to places we've never been, introduce us to characters who feel like friends, and teach us lessons that shape our lives.
As an author, my mission is simple: to weave tales that inspire, entertain, and leave a lasting impression. My stories are often rooted in imagination but reflect universal truths, courage, unity, resilience, and the magic of believing in oneself. Through my characters and their journeys, I hope to connect with each of you on a deeply personal level, sparking curiosity, joy, and even a touch of wonder.
I have published many books, each offering a unique blend of imagination, emotion, and adventure. You can explore my works, available on Amazon in both Paperback and Ebook formats, to find the stories that resonate with you the most. Whether you’re a lover of fantasy, mystery, or heartfelt tales, there’s something for everyone.
This book, Zeelo's Mysterious World, is especially close to my heart. It began as a simple idea a "what if" moment and grew into a world filled with adventure, mystery, and timeless lessons. Writing it has been a journey of discovery, not just of the world and characters but of myself as well. It's my way of sharing a piece of my soul with you, one page at a time.
But a story doesn't live until it is read. That’s where you come in. Your imagination breathes life into these words, and your perspectives enrich this tale beyond what I could ever envision.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! What did you love? What made you think? What would you like to see in the future? Your feedback, suggestions, and even your wildest ideas mean the world to me. Let’s shape the next chapter of this journey together. Thank you for stepping into my world of words. Here’s to many more adventures, both real and imagined, that we’ll share along the way!
With gratitude,
Shahab Khan

Hi - I'm Donna Strong. My book, Toss the Rocks and Get on with It! will be coming out this month. So many people feel stuck, unable to move forward in their lives. Often, people are not living their BEST lives. The answer often lies in the emotional and mental baggage a person is carrying. My book offers readers a roadmap to identify and release these hidden burdens, paving the way to a joyful and purpose-filled life. Why settle for less.? Toss the Rocks and Get on with it! Live your best life!
My name is G. Gruen. I'm a refugee from the advertising business with a couple of spec screenplay sales. I've just finished my second novel and will be asking for advice shortly. My first novel, "The Uniform," is a Holocaust thriller based on my father's experience in the Second World War. It was a semifinalist for Publishers Weekly's Book Life Prize. If you're curious, you can read about it at www.ggruen.com I regret to say I fall into the remedial marketer category and, after just finishing book two, a crime thriller, I would be grateful for tips on where and how to attract ARC readers. Advice anyone? Buehler?
Hi, I am a part-time writer residing near London with my wife and dog. Despite a demanding lifestyle I manage to get pen to paper usually late in the evenings. My work is heavily inspired by authors such as Tolkien, David Eddings, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, and Terry Brooks, and I specialise in High Fantasy.
Throughout my full-time career, I have had the privilege of working in New Zealand, Canada, Thailand, and across Europe. These experiences have introduced me to a wide variety of people, some of whom have influenced the diverse characters in my books. My writing often features intricate fight scenes and complex magical systems.
I began working on my first book in 2001, and what was initially a single project has since evolved into a series. The inspiration for the story originated from an image of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity at Meteora, Greece—an ideal setting for a stronghold and the focal point of my narrative.
After twenty years my first book is finished and published on Amazon Kindle. The second book in the series is in draft and waiting to be finished
I would like to connect with readers and fellow authors, so please feel free to message me.
Best regards
DKB

Thank you.

Hello, all!I'm Aengie Scevity, a reader, writer, and academic.
I fell in love with YA and fantasy as a child and those loves have never left me. Throughout my life I've discovered a love of dystopian science fiction and, more recently, thrillers. I have a secret love of horror stories but I absolutely cannot watch horror movies or play horror video games.
I write broadly. My debut novel THE OWLBEAR AND THE OMENS is low fantasy, political intrigue, reverse harem with NO EROTICA played for court machinations. I've also written literary fiction, science fiction, speculative fiction for the adult market, and a YA fantasy novel. One day these manuscripts might see the light of day.
For now, I'd love some recommendations of the best scary-ish books you've ever read, and your favourite pre 2000's novels, particularly in fantasy!

Best scary-ish short story: Edgar Allan Poe's Cask of Amontillado.
Best scary-ish book: Toni Morrison's Beloved. Perhaps not a scary book in the traditional sense, but fundamentally scary.
Favorite pre-2000s fantasy novel: T.H. White's Once and Future King
Another good pre-2000 novel: The Fixer by Bernard Malamud
Hi, I've written a number of books of various genres that appear on Amazon - there are 2 suspense, 2 children's picture books, 7 inspirational Christian, and 3 fiction with Christian elements. My latest is entitled, "The Rapture - Imagining the Day that Changes the World Forever," which is a unique blend of fiction and non-fiction. It's a powerful award-winning book that's made a strong impact on those who've read it -- although, I'm not good at promoting myself and probably no more than 200 people have read it. I'd love to find a way to get it "out there." If anyone has had success in promoting their book, I'd love to hear it. But then, I'm sure that's what we'd all like to hear! If anyone is interested in reading my book, I'd be happy to send a pdf copy and hope that you'd write a review (: Thanks!
Sandra,I strongly advise you to edit your post & remove your email, or you will be plagued by reviewers, fake reviewers, and they can be nasty.
I have never reviewed anybody's book by request before, so if you don't mind a complete novice having a go, I will email you in a mo.
Nigel
Thank you for that response and advice, Nigel. I removed the email address. If anyone is interested in reading and/or reviewing the book, you can click on my profile and get the email address there. Hopefully, that will help discourage the bots from getting it (although I'm not sure about that!)
Hello Everyone,Business as a Baby: Nurturing your Business from Infancy to SuccessChukwudum "Chumze" Chukwudebelu
My name is Chukwudum "Chumze" Chukwudebelu, but you all can call me Chumze. I am the author of "Business as a Baby," a book about my entrepreneurial failure and the lessons I learned along the way. I am looking for advance reviewers for my book before it launches on January 31st, 2025
Hello,I am Sylvanus. Great to be in this group. I am a first-time author and relatively new to Goodreads. My book, A Trail to Prosperity, is a fictional treat with historical and political undertones that addresses the human experience of resilience through immigration, career-path, and romance.
I enjoy writing, and reading even more. I look forward to the engaging interactions in this group.

My name is Cathy Schieffelin and I'm a newly published author of The Call, published by Atmosphere Press. I'm in the throws of promoting my book as well as working on the next one.
I'm an avid reader and writer and a love of nature and travel inspires my daily writing life. I've been writing with intention for the past five years, since a breast cancer diagnosis. Writing is a salve for me. I'm a regular attendee of local writing workshops and I participate in writing competitions. My work has been published in Adanna Literary Journal, Halfway Down the Stairs, Frontier Nursing Service Quarterly Bulletin and Micro-Fiction Monday Magazine.
The Call is part medical mystery and part slow-burn romance telling the dual stories of Nate, and journalist and Juliette, a virologist who find themselves in the remote Comoro Islands during a terrifying viral outbreak. As they struggle through the chaos and uncertainty, their bond deepens, bringing to light unresolved traumas from Juliette's past.
From Midwest Book Review:
"The result is a multi-faceted tale of adventure and family connections, and even mystery. Schieffelin shifts perspectives between Juliette and Nate so deftly that their disparate backgrounds and connections receive equal billing and insights. Book club reading groups seeking novels that are compelling and thought-provoking will especially appreciate the many discussion opportunities that emerge as Nate and Juliette slide deeply into the duality of unfolding horror and opportunity." D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review
I'd love some tips for promoting my book and for engaging my readers in a meaningful way. I have a website www.wildflowerspress.com that explores the writing craft and other elements for a creative life.
Thank you and I hope to connect with other writers and readers.
Hi everyone, how are you? My name is Odessa Cortese, or 'OC' for short, just like 'Orange County', which is near where I live in California. I'm from Brazil, but I speak English and three other languages fluently. Words and writing have always been my passion. I'm both a reader and a writer... as the famous Harry Potter quote goes, 'words are our most inexhaustible source of magic'. I have a few books published, and there are some common elements in most of them - one of the characters is a movie actor, they are set in the United States, and they aren't very long. If you'd like to give my work a chance, I'd be honored. And for those in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, dealing with these wildfires, stay safe <3https://www.amazon.com/stores/Odessa-...

Hi, I've just joined this group. I'm an author, a cook, and a dog-lover. My book JOY: A Novel of the New Frontier was published in 2023 and I did pretty much nothing to promote it. I was facing a dangerous surgery, and I just wanted it in the world. Now, JOY has been shortlisted for the Rubery Book Award, and I'm finally getting out there trying to bring readers to my work. I've listed it in Speculative Fiction here (I'm not sure if I can share it in more than one category), so please check it out!
Hi, I'm Elizabeth Legge (Elyse DeBarre), a historical fiction and scholarly historical and archaeological nonfiction author, classical archaeologist, and doctor of medicine candidate. My historical fiction is well researched, has well-developed characters and plots, and involves espionage, mystery, and mild interwoven romance. It takes place in ancient eras, particularly in ancient Rome, although one series is based in ancient Greece, Lydia and Persia.

Hellebore ManorJoke OrtizMy Writing Journey: From Childhood Dreams to Hellebore Manor
Hello, my name is Joke Ortiz, and I am a writer. I craft stories in the genres of horror, indie horror, mystery, thriller, and dark fantasy. Writing has always been my passion, ever since I was a child. Back then, I would create my own stories and even make little storybooks. Although many details have faded from memory, one thing remains clear: I felt a bright fire in my heart and carried a dream I desperately wished to come true—to become a writer.
In my pre-teen years, I began sharing my stories on Wattpad, a platform that was hugely popular for aspiring writers. In just one year, I wrote eight stories. I poured my heart into every word, spending countless hours in front of my computer, driven by the desire to finish each tale. But things didn’t go as I hoped. My work faced harsh criticism, with some people even telling me to stop writing altogether. Heartbroken, I deleted my account, my works, and the Wattpad app, vowing never to write again.
Yet, despite my despair, something deep inside me refused to give up.
As I grew older, my days became busier, but my love for storytelling never faded. I kept writing, determined to bring my ideas to life. After years of perseverance, I published my first book, Hellebore Manor, on Amazon on November 30 of last year. It was a small but deeply meaningful achievement, and I celebrated quietly by myself.
However, that was only the beginning.
Since then, I’ve worked tirelessly to market my book. I’ve tried email campaigns, social media posts, advertisements—everything I could learn from the advice of experts. But sales have been slow, and my efforts have often felt like they’re falling short. I’ve spent more money than I’ve earned, all in the hope of getting my book noticed.
Looking back on my writing journey, I feel a mix of emotions. On one hand, I’m proud of the little girl who dreamed big and refused to give up. On the other, I feel disappointed—like I’ve let her down because my dream still feels so far away. Sometimes I wake up wondering if my dream will remain just that—a dream.
I know this isn’t the typical success story, but it’s my story. I’m not here to advertise, beg for attention, or push my book. I just wanted to share my journey—the good, the bad, and the frustrating—and maybe find a bit of advice or encouragement along the way.
My Questions to You:
What are your strategies for getting book sales?
Which platforms do you use to sell your books?
If you’re comfortable, would you mind sharing your writing journey with me?
If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you’re curious about my work, I’d be happy to share a free eBook or PDF of Hellebore Manor for review. If you’re interested in supporting me, the link to purchase the book is in my bio.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey. I hope you have a pleasant day.

Hello fellow authors and readers!I’m Lucie, a thriller author from London, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this amazing community. I write psychological thrillers with a particular focus on betrayal, justice, and the hidden depths of human behaviour. My debut novel, Chains of Retribution, delves into these themes, while also exploring the emotional complexity of animals and their powerful impact on the story.
When I’m not writing or immersed in the world of HSE Compliance and Facilities Management (my day job!), you can usually find me surrounded by my three cats—Midnight, Luna, and Aurora—who have their own editorial duties. I’m always looking for new ways to grow as an author, and I look forward to sharing insights, tips, and inspiration with this community.
I’d love to connect with others who share a passion for thrillers, suspenseful storytelling, and exploring complex characters. Please feel free to say hello, share your book recommendations, or ask any questions about my writing journey.
Looking forward to learning from all of you and engaging in great discussions!
Hi everyone,I would like to share with you my three new books that are free right now on Amazon Kindle E-book versions. I would love to receive your feedback and reviews on these books. Many thanks!

I write books and I enjoy reading them… my name is Mario D. Leone.I’ve worn many hats over the years, though I’m not exactly what you’d call a “renaissance man.” I mean, sure, I’ve written screenplays, delivered speeches to crowds (sometimes with a microphone that refuses to work, or it squelches), choreographed fight scenes (I promise, it’s more than just pretending to throw punches), and spent time in a bit of martial arts when life wasn’t throwing its own metaphorical punches at me.
But if you ask me to juggle or paint a fresco, I’ll be the first to admit, I’ll probably break something. I do have an appreciation for art.
My journey as a writer started in the glory days of CD-ROMs—yes, I’ve been around that long—when I was crafting stories that lived on disks that now gather dust in the forgotten corners of technology.
Since then, I’ve taken my words off the digital disc and put them into the world of books.
It’s been a ride, like trying to write a screenplay with one hand while holding a microphone in the other, and maybe throwing in a roundhouse kick just for fun. So, here I am, not quite a renaissance man, but definitely a storyteller who knows how to keep things interesting, even if it means stepping into a ring—or a room full of people—with a sense of humor and an open mind.
And I will be announcing my new book just not here…
Thanks, Mario

Farah,
Welcome to Goodreads. I'm new here, not really got into it yet except for ideas of what to read next.
Your story sounds like something worth hearing if you have published two as e-books and that has gone well enough to take the plunge with the third as a fully grown up paperback. This place seems to be awash with newbie authors (myself included) who would love to hear the story of how all that went, the story of your publishing experience. I and others on here are just starting out on that road so some idea of how you got on would be an interesting read if you have the time please.
Love the typo on your post. always amusing when one of we writers makes such a goof.
Cheers.
