Athene Z. Adam | 3 comments Hi there,

I am excited to be part of this community! My name is Athene (profile: Athene Z. Adam) and I'm from Canada.

My self-published, debut novel is called Imperious Realm, and it's Book 1 of the Reign of the North Forest series.

Imperious Realm is a futuristic political fantasy and is due for release on November 8, 2022.

I turned my mind to formal publishing only in the last couple of years after writing for fun. Then I realized I wanted to share my imaginary world with the world. :)

Have a lovely week! :)

Ray Petrolino (raypetrolino) | 14 comments Hello to all!

I'm Ray Petrolino and I live in Cary, NC, USA with my wife and family and my dog Jake (not just any dog, but a talking bichon with an unfulfilled set of demands).

When I'm not writing MG fantasy novels (well, really just one so far: A Leap into Darkness), I'm listening to my dog (and sometimes my wife); or I can be found working on film sets, playing drums at my house, or playing drums at someone else's house.

Truth be told, I'm completely terrified of Goodreads, as I'm new to it and unfortunately was subjected to conspiracy theories first about it (e.g., "authors barely tolerated" :-)) and the truth later. As I've started to wade in, though, it looks like it's made up of a great (large) group of people who just genuinely love reading (and sometimes, writing).

This group seems like a great idea: happily bringing authors and readers together! Thanks so much for making this happen! 45k members...incredible!

message 20226: by J.O. (new)

J.O. Logger | 1 comments Hello to all of you,
hope my name J.O. Logger comes fluently over your lips, ... much better than my real-world name Ulrich Heuser.
J.O. Logger is closest friend of Ulrich cause it's a pen name or pseudonym or alias, just as you like.
Please welcome Jason Oracle Logger as a colonist coming to you from good old Germany. On his ship, leaving the port of Hamburg, he doesn't put a load of colourful glass beads, nor Sauerkraut or Lederhosen to the British Isles. He is a missionary with the works of Joseph Conrad in his luggage. You see him "carrying owls to Athens", as the phrase goes, cause he likes much of British literature and lifestyle - so much that he himself wants to contribute some piece of writing.
Not like the Romans, who (acc. to Conrad) colonised the southern parts of the isles "with brute force, 2000 years ago" J.O. enters with the intent to socialize. He even became member of the honourable scientific "The Joseph Conrad Society (UK)" in 2015, and, recently, managed to be accepted to the Author Program of goodreads.com.
More details are disclosed about J.O. in the specifics of his alter ego, Ulrich Heuser, whom you might find here as well.

Anyway, J.O. is proud to present his first novel to the English speaking audience, denoted by title
"Suspicious: Escape From Homicide Tracing". It belongs to the crime stories genre.
Just search for "suspicious escape" to find it.
Unfortunately, this paperback is not available in your nearby book-store yet. By support of bookprintinguk.com it should show up soon as being on stock at Amazon. In the meantime it can be ordered using the contact given on my web-pages at https://deviation.bplaced.net

Heather Barnes | 15 comments Is there anyone who would be willing to help me get started with my first book? I would prefer to work with one individual that could kind of help get me started. I know my story. It is my story. A love story really. I have been told it could be a novel, a memoir, an autobiography, etc. I write best in first person. I can do third person if necessary. I really just need to get someone who is willing to help get me going in the right direction.

message 20230: by Lorna (new)

Lorna Fraser | 1 comments Hello, my name is Lorna Fraser, and I'm a retired English teacher. I've been an author for about 10 years to date, writing and basically storing my work on Amazon. I'm now making an effort to promote myself and my work, and I'd really love to get comments and reviews.
I authored "Return to Naseberry Hill, the 7th Hill of Kildare" as my personal example of fiction that recounts, creatively, the interrelated journeys and interlocking experiences of Europeans, Africans and indigenous peoples.

The Road
An excerpt from Return to Naseberry Hill by Lorna A Fraser

She walked confidently away from the bus stop at the side of the lonely country road. This is it! She thought, proud of herself for having taken such a crucial step.
.............
The road wound around the white rock face of the hill and she thought she glimpsed something white and shining just beyond.
“It’s nothing,” she said aloud, and she began to recite a line which she had heard attributed to her father although she doubted that he was capable of such profundity of thought.
It went: "As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. As we are liberated from our own fear, OUR PRESENCE AUTOMATICALLY LIBERATES OTHERS. As we are liberated from our own FEAR OUR PRESENCE AUTOMATICALLY LIBERATES OTHERS. " Louder and louder, each line heaped up the volume on the one which preceded it.
During all this time Winsome was getting closer and closer to the bend, until she was actually in it. There she saw a luminous figure float into the road.
As the thing started coming towards her, her feet automatically began to run.
Run run run, run some more. It was like when she was a child and had been troubled by a dream of herself bitten by the galliwasp that lived in the trash at the back of the house. Somehow, she had to reach water before the creature or she knew that she would die.
This was no different, except that it was a waking dream.
Run run run, run some more.
STOP! The sound reverberated over and over. Stop! Stop! Stoooooooooooooooooooooop!!!!!! Winsome gasped as something touched her and her fear intensified at the thought of coming face to face with an unspeakable horror.
She spun herself around with every muscle taut...But she saw only a young man about her age.
"I was behind you all the way, calling for you to wait for me, but it seems you didn’t hear me -
- And you are...?”
“Sean Gooden. #help #like #water I’m coming in this evening to help Mr. Francis as he said his niece might be coming to stay with him.”

They smiled at each other, and then he placed an arm familiarly around her shoulder. “I’ve never been inside here before,” he said. But since we’re here, let’s explore!”
“Only a little way,” said Winsome.

Hand in hand they went, Sean leading the way, while her heart palpitated, protesting in advance at the horror she was sure awaited beyond the opening.

Editors Weekly (editorsweekly) | 9 comments Happy to introduce ourselves!

We are a small group of editors who have joined together to provide independent authors, whom we prefer, fair, impartial, and constructive editorial reviews on their novels.

We love singular novels, and with books in series, prefer them in order. All our submissions and reviews are 100% free, and once reviewed, we post our reviews on both Amazon and Goodreads, along with a dedicated page on Editor's Weekly.

Our goal is to help great independent authors get some traction, and also get their novels reviewed without the exorbitant prices many other facilities charge.

Note that as we are a free platform, your submission will be entered into the queue and will be reviewed whenever one of our staff picks it. Due to the number of submissions we receive:

1) Improperly edited submissions/author profiles will result in the assumption that the same level of care was put into the novel, and therefore, is unlikely to be reviewed. So please make sure you fully complete your submission and author profile!

2) Contacting us regarding the status of your review is not permitted! We operate impartially and do not have preferential treatment.

3) Novels that demonstrate they do not have sufficient copyediting or polishing are likewise unlikely to be reviewed - we want work you, as an author, would be proud to hard-cover publish using your own money!

4) You will not receive notification about your novel once it is submitted. We will post reviews on all platforms, and whether it be a really good one or one that isn't as awesome as you'd prefer, we don't edit/remove them once completed.

5) We purchase all the novels ourselves, so there is no need for you to submit the manuscript to us.

6) Your novel must be listed on Amazon.

Finally, note that although all of us at EDW have been in literature for many years, this is a new offering. Accordingly, although we do have a number of novels in queue already through internal submissions, submissions sooner rather than later are more likely to be reviewed, as we anticipate the queue to swell up quickly based on our initial tests. We are also launching on social media platforms, so if you do get a chance to tell others about us and send us a PM here on Goodreads, we can attach that to your review submission so that reviewers are encouraged to reciprocate the goodwill.

Thank you!

Sign up here: https://www.editorsweekly.com/registr...

Once logged in, you can submit your novel.

Muskan Surana | 6 comments Hi!
I'm a first time author who has recently published a romance novel on Amazon which is free on KU and alternatively available as a paperback. The blurb of the book is posted below:

Aliya Mirza and Jai Singh were destined as neighbors.
They weren't supposed to become friends.
They certainly weren't allowed to fall in love.

Because once they do, they find themselves embroiled in a tangled web of deceit and betrayal amidst a tumultuous nationwide divide.

Memories blur. Words lose their meaning. Love no longer has a place to stay.

Surviving is the only option. Tormenting the other to death is a decision they make.

After all, with differences this turbulent and hurdles so many, their story is doomed to end in a way they would've never wished for.

An end they inevitably saw coming.
....................................................................

If this is something that interests you, please do let me know. :)

My name is Ronnie Pastecki. I am new to this group and have been closely reading the digested version of the daily posts. Thanks for sharing your insights. You have addressed so many of my concerns.

I am an avid reader who has almost published my debut novel. The launch date is January 10, 2023.

I was a history major in college many years ago, but I always retained my interest in the subject. I love historical fiction, so when I started doing some geological research on my family, it was a no-brainer to write a novel about my 4th Great-Grandfather, who was a scout at Valley Forge. My novel, Whipponock Creek: The Life and Times of Will Traylor, recounts life in Colonial Virginia from a farmer who reluctantly joins the Patriots in the American Revolution.

Alex | 1 comments Hi everybody! There are thousands of introductions, but still, I joined a book club, so I should say hello! I love to read crime novels like candy. Depending whether I give a 3-star rating or 5 depends on whether I can solve the mystery before the cop and/or detective can solve it. Trying to figure out "who did it" is most of the fun of reading crime novels. I work from Zoom calls which some would mistakenly believe is simpler than working from an office. If you want more information, you can go to my Facebook page!

Maya | 2 comments Hey,
I'm Maya, from Israel, at my twenties. Loved reading ever since I was a child. Actually, I have a picture of me reading a book curiously when I was about 2 or maybe 3. When I was about 8, I wrote a short story in powerpoint called "Abigail in the magic cave" that I can't find today. Old computer and stuff. I wrote two full books and another novel I still haven't published (all 3), although the first, that I started writing in my last year of highschool, was in an editing process that did not succeed - even though the editor did say I'm in the right field. I've also Been to a writing course... what else? I enjoy fantasy books and romance. I like historical fiction... that's about it. 🙂

(Look for it on GoodReads!) A retired math educator for 27 years in the public school sector, balancing writing and working was always a challenge, but I never stopped writing. I have published my short stories and poetry in many journals and anthologies. As for my reading habit, I can't believe how much more I can read now that I am retired from teaching. Writing is now my full-time career. Lately, I have been on an Ann Cleeves kick (several mystery series) but will read volumes of poetry in-between with a flavoring of a non-fiction read. Right now I am beginning, Genius of Place: The Life of Frederick Olmsted by Justin Martin. Reading and writing are my happy places. :)

Michael Bowers | 18 comments Captured by COVID: Deceit, Conspiracy & Death—A True Story Michael E. Bowers

I'm a retired US Air Force veteran. I've been fortunate to have lived/traveled around the globe many times; experienced many cultures; and learned that just because you do something differently, doesn't make it incorrect.

Captured By COVID came about due to my battle with the disease and the therapy I required to deal with PTSD form the events. This book is not a political rant, nor does it promote for or against COVID, masks, or vaccines.

What started out as a visit to the ER with COVID turned into an unimaginable journey that will have you questioning reality. The tales of torture, abandonment, and death are true. Captured by COVID is an emotional rollercoaster that will drag you into my world.
