Patricia Rodi | 2 comments Ciao, Everyone!

I'm getting active on Goodreads, and hoping to get my first published book noticed.

I live in Canada, and have been writing for myself most of my life. But surviving advanced stomach cancer put life into perspective for me (like most who experience trauma). I guess you could say I'm middle-aged, and hope that I still have another half-century (at least) to fulfill my goals. I'm a wife and a mother to my one-and-only daughter. I love both writing and reading, and marketing my writing is always a challenge in my small world.

WHAT COMES AFTER CANCER - A memoir for patients, family, and friends dealing with critical illness

Glad to be here!

James Ragon | 5 comments James Ragon

Hi. My name is James Ragon. My Book is the Secret of Etemenanki. I was going to write a brief synopsis but decided to use part of the review I received from Wyatt Semenuk, of Book Trib in April of this year. I was very humbled by Wyatt's great review and as such it sums up my book better than I can.

"When Father Vilhardain finds Sir Byron Fitzwalter wounded, alone and at death’s door at the killing fields of ar-Saffuriyah, their fates are bound together. One is a priest on a secret and dangerous mission. The other is a young Knight Crusader hungry for glory.
The year is 1187 and the Muslim forces of Sultan Saladin have just crushed the Christian armies struggling to maintain control of the Holy Land. As two great faiths continue to fight and kill for supremacy, the pair journeys from the heart of Rome, the seat of Christian power, to the legendary city of Babylon, deep in enemy territory. From deadly political subterfuge and relentless assassins to the full power of Saladin’s massive army, the two must navigate unimaginable peril to save the Western world.
As the two finally reach the fabled gates of Babylon, little do they know that everything they’ve both ever held to be true will be called into question, and loyalties once thought unbreakable will be brought to the brink."

This is my first book. I have just finished my second book which I am in the process of trying to edit. I am rather new to this, so forgive me if I have some difficulty in navigating the computer world. (The picture of me on "Buck" should give you some hint regarding my technology skills :)
Sincerely James Ragon

Brett Valkenburg | 4 comments Hello! My name is Brett Van Valkenburg. I've published one horror novella called Worse Than Dying on Amazon. I'm currently working on a children's book (quite the extreme, I know) called Suzie Buttler's First Day of school, which is a whacky story about an anthropomorphic butt's first day of kindergarten.

I'm running a Kickstarter for it now, if anyone wants to help me get it funded. Otherwise, anyone know under which section I can offer readers ARCs in the future? (There are a lot of topics in this group.)

Let me re-introduce myself.

I'm Vickie a writer from the Caribbean (Dominica). I write poetry, and working on my first romance novel. I write under the pseudonym of Serlina Rose

I've recently, July 2nd of this year, released my first poetry collection - a chapbook Island Girl Affection and more poetry books will soon follow in time.

I also loved reading, which you can tell by the number of books added to my read list. However, I love writing just as much.

If you are willing to be friends and willing to read my work & leave a suggestion of encouragement, or a review, I would gladly appreciate it all. I do not just want your suggestion, but I wish to have true friendship to grow on this journey!

Sorry for not responding sooner I was out of town. My granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. Thanks for the responding to my post. I started writing my book about 2007. It took a long time to research it and then write it. I had a lot of fun creating the story. If you read my book, I hope you like it. It was one of my bucket list accomplishments.

Sincerely

Jose Nessin (httpswwwamazoncomeb091czhgnv) | 4 comments Hi! I am the author of the book “From Asteroids to Pandemics, living a world of a spontaneous risk”. The self-published book covers wide topics regarding existential risks, and the threat civilization is facing in an anthropogenic world, where geopolitical volatility has become the norm.

After almost 80 years, the world has entered a renewed cycle of wars which could easily unravel into a global one. The dilemma we confront now, is that humankind is actually facing the potential for its self-destruction through nuclear weapons.

Foreseeing the future has become very complicated in these times. Whatever progress humanity has achieved over thousands of years it has evolved, the current geopolitical dilemma may revert back centuries of humankind progress. A new world order is at hand, but not the kind we wish for. Upon us, is the threat of global war promoted by world domination of two autocratic dictatorial, repressive powers, while democracy crumbles. If we consider our world today, movies such as Red Dawn does not seem to be fiction anymore.

Members are invited to check out my book on Amazon at the following link: https://a.co/9qwYLik

Would love to have your honest comments and reviews.

V.L. Adams (vladamsauthor) | 3 comments I’m V. L. Adams, and I recently published my first novel, The Source of Smoke. This is a fast-paced, small-town mystery, revolving around a possible wrongful conviction.

Inspired by my own work in wrongful conviction education, this is the story of Charlie Allen, a girl forced to return to her hometown following her sister’s tragic murder. 3 years later, the life she has settled into is once again disturbed when she begins receiving letters from her sister’s convicted killer claiming his innocence. Shocked but curious, Charlie begins to look deeper into what really happened, learning secrets that have gone hidden or ignored. With a growing list of suspicious characters, she is forced to confront the question, is this just misplaced grief or is there some truth to this supposed killer’s claims?

If you love mysteries, I hope you'll check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/Source-Smoke-V...

Robin Tompkins | 336 comments Welcome my friend to the wonderful world of indie publishing.☺ You have just discovered the great visibility problem.☺ I am sure that the good folks of this site will have many excellent suggestions for you on increasing your profile. I have no doubt your book does deserve better as do many others. The problem is that this is now a hugely overcrowded area, just how overcrowded only becomes apparent once you are an insider. Genuinely I wish you luck and I hope you find your market. For myself I am now treating my writing as a hobby, having hit a certain age, it feels OK now to do that.

Cheers P. Hopefully not the land of Boris for much longer, as the blonde buffoon has one foot out of the door now.

Ahh, the X-Files... nobody did it better, still miss that show... I have all nine original seasons, the movies, the 'Event Season,' and the (assumed) final season on DVD. (Yes, I'm the guy still buying DVDs)

Anyway, the truth is out there and the truth is, that sadly hardly anybody makes real money from writing, even many of the authors backed by the big publishing houses. However, that's not a reason not to try. Like the lottery, you have to be in it to win it, nothing ever came from nothing. Sometimes there is a winner... sometimes...

I don't regret taking a run at it even if I have decided to do things differently now. :-)

A lot of people will tell you it's all just down to hard work and perseverance. Whilst those things definitely help and you won't get anywhere without them, what you also need is a massive amount of sheer luck.

So, Once again, good luck... :-)

Catherine Douglas Hello, I'm Catherine. I'm the author of the new historical fantasy book "White Raven," the first book in a series called Snows of War, taking the era of World War II and adding a light fantasy element to create unique character-driven narratives, while maintaining as much historical accuracy as possible.

I have shopped White Raven around to review sites, with some success, but looking for other ways to get readers interested.

Olli Pietilä | 1 comments My name is Olli Pietilä.
I write books in which I try to expose some of the ugly truths about topics that most of us have taken for granted. Addictions play an important role as an underlying factor for many of the issues I raise.

I am about to publish my first one called "From player to husband". The book reveals the dark sides of relationships as well as the less known horrors of the every boys dreamland of all-you-can-eat buffet of endless women.

I am searching for similar-minded authors who would be interested in these type of topics and would like to engage in a back-and-forth with me for the betterment of both parties' works and to improve the general though process - a writing buddy if you will.

I published my first book in early June and although I've submitted multiple requests to show my profile as the author, nothing has happened. Any advice or suggestions?

Lester Fisher | 215 comments Did you ever see the USS Nautilus on its Maiden voyage around the USA? I did, in the Columbia River. Did you see the landing of the first 707 Jetliner in Portland OR? I did. Did you see the first Seattle World’s Fair? I spend some time there. I had never tasted strawberry waffles or Danish Scones or seen the Pontiac Firebird concept turbine car or ridden the Monorail.
I was too young to remember the end of the Korean War, but I remember “I Like Ike!”. My next-door neighbor was killed in the Vietnam War. I got my draft notice but was declared 4F. I attended College in the turbulent 60s. I, watched on, TV the assassination of J. F. Kennedy, M. L. King, Bobby Kennedy, Malcom X. the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald by Ruby, and his subsequent death.

Did you see the first landing on the Moon…live? I did, at Shaw College in Raleigh NC, during Peace Corp Training. Presidential candidate, Tom Mboya, was felled by an assassin’s bullet in Nairobi on 5th July 1969. Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta, was reelected. I arrived in Kenya in September of 1969.

Did you know what happened to the people around Mt. St. Helens when it erupted in 1980. I do, my dad lost his house, and my wife lived through the ashes. Remember Hurricane Iniki. I was living in Kauai when the roof blew off our house with us in it.
And we had front row seats to the destruction of 700 homes by the 2018 eruption of Pu`u O`o volcano on the SW flank of the Island of Hawaii. Not to mention the false-alarm nuclear attack threat from N. Korea in 2018.

Who says the life of an ordinary man cannot be eventful? Mine certainly was!
