Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hi, Readers-- While HBO films Season #2 of The Gilded Age, I have at the ready The Val and Roddy DeVere Gilded Series, featuring the wealthy, sleuthing couple who investigate murders in 1898-1899 New York and Newport. The series lunched with a killer stalking Newport Society in A GILDED DEATH, I want to offer highest praise for a historical novel I could not put down and felt awful when the last page turned. THE ELEPHANT OF BELFAST features a young woman zookeeper in WWII Northern Ireland who cares for a special elephant as the Germans prepare to bomb the city. Every page rewards the reader! I say, Go for it!

I'm Jay - I'm a teen writer/reader and I've written one novel ( Carter Sky and the Wrath of the Sky King , not published, nor do I plan to do so) and have been working on a new project, slowly but surely, over the last year and a half. Thanks for starting this group, Vincent! Just made this account last month cause I wanted to start from scratch with reviews and whatnot, and this is my first group :D
Hi, I'm new here. I'm an enthusiastic reader, reviewer, ARC team member and devoted Goodreads member. I haven't a clue how many books I've actually read in my lifetime but I gave up cataloging them when I hit 10,000 at 15. LoL :)
Hope new Goodreads readers might meet me for the 1st time--and dip into the VAL AND RODDY DEVERE GILDED SERIES, set in the Gilded Age. A silver heiress from the West and a fifth-generation New York Knickerbocker gentleman feature as husband-and-wife sleuths whose high Society Gotham and Newport crackle with crime and corruption.
My years in the American lit classroom and library (and previous mystery crime novels) inspired this sleuthing couple, who are based on historical figures and events. The series launched with A GILDED DEATH. My website:

Hi everyone,I'm Ruth Shore, a M/M dark fantasy/romance author. I'm releasing my first book this Thursday. I already posted about it in the Romance topic, so I won't do that here—I'm just relieved to have found a group that might connect me with people who could enjoy my book. I'm very new to all of this, so I feel like I've been stumbling along, learning as I go. But challenges are gratifying in their own way, I suppose.
https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...Eileen Moore travels the continental United States looking for ghosts, cryptids, and all manner of paranormal beings.
Instead, she finds a severely injured young man, who doesn't seem to speak English, held captive in the basement of an abandoned building and, without other options, she takes him home to nurse him back to health.
And to find out if he's human or not.
Aloha from beautiful Hawaii. My name is Richard I Levine and I am an author of suspense/thriller crime fiction novels. I am new to this group as I am hoping to find book reviewer/bloggers for my 5th novel which will be released on 8/22/2022. I will post about that on the bulletin board (which I believe is the correct protocol). Below you can read about me as taken from my Amazon author page. Hopefully I've done this correctly :-) ThanksRichard I Levine is a native New Yorker raised in the shadows of Yankee Stadium. After dabbling in several occupations and a one-year coast to coast wanderlust trip, this one-time volunteer fireman, bartender, and store manager returned to school to become a chiropractor. A twenty-one year cancer survivor, he’s a strong advocate for the natural healing arts. Levine has four Indy-published novels and his fifth work, To Catch The Setting Sun, has just been completed. In 2006 he wrote, produced and was on-air personality of the Dr. Rich Levine show on Seattle’s KKNW 1150AM and after a twenty-five year practice in Bellevue, Washington, he closed up shop in 2017 and moved to Oahu to pursue a dream of acting and being on Hawaii 5-O. While briefly working as a ghostwriter/community liaison for a local Honolulu City Councilmember, he appeared as a background actor in over twenty-five 5-Os and Magnum P.Is. Richard can be seen in his first co-star role in the Magnum P.I. third season episode “Easy Money”. He presently resides in Hawaii.

Hello Everyone!
I am Kimberly Jae. I am a writer and an avid reader! Can't wait to start reviewing!
Hey gang, Got a great review on kirkus for my Mystery/Thriller-Regardless of the Consequences and had to share it. Anyone wanting a free mobi, contact me at www.larrylauritzen.net.Kirkus review:
An Apache sheriff investigates the wreckage of a plane crash that may hold decades-old secrets in Lauritzen’s debut thriller.
Native American lawman Lance Tallbear views himself as nothing more than a “reservation ticket cop,” but he still yearns to make a difference. He gets his chance when an unreported, decades-old airplane wreck in Arizona’s rugged Superstition Mountains is discovered by a young Apache by the cringeworthy name of Tommy Hawk. The younger man is soon found to be selling expensive jewelry looted from the aircraft, but he gives the cops the slip. Then it’s found that the plane’s pilot—a wealthy arms manufacturer and Nazi sympathizer—and his passenger wife were shot through the head before the crash occurred. Things become stickier when a ballistics test matches the bullets to the past death of a rich industrialist. Rogue CIA and FBI agents try to force Tallbear and his superiors off the case so they can collect a fortune rumored to be missing from the craft. Meanwhile, Tallbear is in line to be a local shaman, but not sure he’s ready for the responsibility; however, he comes to understand his healing powers after he meets Hanley, an alcoholic FBI agent. It also becomes clear that there’s more at stake than mere money. Over the course of this novel, Lauritzen not only presents several inventive plot twists, but he also displays the uncanny ability to reveal bits of information at just the right moments to enhance the suspense. This pacing of the story fittingly moves at the speed of a bullet, and the author effectively provides enough action scenes along the way to keep the reader hooked. At its best, the novel calls to mind a combination of the works of Tony Hillerman and Jack Higgins, and it will likely satisfy fans of both.
Interesting discussions. In answer to Vincent's questions: I have published two volumes of my memoir, and one is still on the way. www.LesterFisher.com. Regarding whether I read books, I have to say for a long time I did not read literature. A lot of science but almost no literature. Just before I retired, my wife bought me a couple of fairly obscure books at Powell's Books in Portland OR. THE PAINTED VEIL by Somerset Maugham she bought because I had enjoyed THE RAISORS EDGE, but I only read 22 pp before I got distracted. The other book was NIKI THE STORY OF A DOG, which engrossed me. "In her total dependence on man, Niki was like those other detainees who have no idea why they were put in prison nor how long they will stay there" by Tibor De'ry. Then I somehow picked up a book that seemed old; PADDY by R. D, Lawrence, A naturalist's true story of raising a baby beaver in the Canadian wilderness. Then I realized I had been bitten again by the love of reading. It was written in the beautiful descriptive style of a bygone generation of Naturalist. Then when I retired, I realized that I needed to tell my story. I still read; I am now revisiting THE LATE DARK WORKS on Mark Twain. It makes more sense to me going into my 4th quarter Century, His style is irascible yet impeccable. I have had the temerity to review all of my recent readings, and some which I read years ago. I gravitate not towards pure fantastical fiction, but toward books which truly reflect life. The memory of an Elephant by Alex Lasker fit that bill, He was obviously well informed by the people who rescue elephants. I was glad to see that a friend of mine just published a book of poems he had written over years, CIRUS MACHINERY by Lee Meier. I am enjoying it!

I think the KIRKUS review does help. I have been relying on it pretty heavily in my recent posts. My Publisher was going to try to line me up with a New York Review of Books writer, but it is so expensive now for just one review that I could not take the chance. Instead they have lined me up with a Social Media Publicist called LAVIDGE. they are supposed to help me organize my presentation and teach me how to interact on
• Tiktok – #BookTok has created a huge boost for the publishing industry
• Instagram – a popular photo and video sharing social app
• Facebook – one of the most popular social media websites
• Twitter – a social media microblogging service ( I will probably pass on this one unless they can convince me}
• LinkedIn – great for books that pertain to professional expertise
• WordPress – a blogging platform
I am getting some clicks on the website that Authorhouse designed for me, but it is slow going! Should I be giving this information to my competition? LOL!

I'm Macee McNeill, a retired high school teacher from North Carolina! After thirty years in the classroom, I finally traded grading papers for writing novels. I am a self-published author of contemporary romance. The third book of my first trilogy, My One and Never Done, came out this month! I would love to find readers that enjoy warm-hearted, laugh-out-loud romance with a dash of danger, a little bit of heat, and a cast of lovable, small town characters. I would also like to find authors with similar writing styles. Happy reading!

2. MURDER MURDER MURDER IN GILDED CENTRAL PARK
3. A FATAL GILDED HIGH NOTE

Hello everybody, my name is Gabriel and I write books (romantic suspense and romantic westerns) I joined Goodreads a while back but never really used it. Now I can see what a mistake that was.Since I'm technically new here, feel free to send me a friend request. Don't worry, I won't flood your inbox with constant marketing messages. :-) In the past couple of years, I've learned how to market my books quite well, so I won't bother you with that kind of nonsense.
It would be nice to get to know some of you here, and I may send messages every once-in-a-while to get your opinion about a book cover for my next release or perhaps what you may be reading at the moment. Hope to connect with some of you soon...

Hello everybody, my name is JR Gibson, and I write children’s eBooks for 5-7 year olds. I have already written a series of fairy stories called: “A Collection of Fantastical Fanciful Fairy Tales”. Currently I am working on a series of children’s eBooks called: “Mungo the Time Travelling Mouse” which are a series of stories for key stage 1 focusing on different periods of history/famous people. However, marketing/promoting the eBooks has been very challenging, as I currently don’t have social media or an email list, and am reluctant to spend any money on paid advertising.
Since I’ve joined Goodreads a few weeks ago, I am fairly new, and am still looking for friends and followers who are interested in my stories. Please feel free to send friend requests or visit my author profile page at any time to enjoy reading my stories. Any feedback and advice on marketing and promoting would be much appreciated.
Enjoy reading!

Hi, my name is Hammad Rind and I'm the author of the debut novel Four Dervishes (https://www.amazon.com/Four-Dervishes...).'Set in the near East, Four Dervishes is a journey to understanding through layers of storytelling. Dark family secrets are laid bare, crimes committed, unknown links between a father and a son revealed, and the cycle—the circularity—of life is confirmed. All because a power failure forces the narrator to confront his present circumstances.'
My name is Nick Stephens.I am a father of 2 and a husband.

Team wrote: "We review books https://www.teamgolfwell.com/free-boo...Here is one of our latest reviews: Five Stars. It has been often been said that the opening few lines of a novel are a "reader’s ..." I agree. One of the best opening lines was John Grisham - A Painted House "The Hill people and Mexicans arrived at the same time". Of course A Tale of Two Cities has one of most famous opening lines, "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times."
I attempt to open my novels with a memorable line as well: "Adam taught me how to be fearless", "The artists and scientists arrived at the same time", and "Landi jumped and then froze, her heart nearly leaped out of her chest". Certainly not worthy of Dickens or Grisham but I try.

Hello all, I am Kristina Howard-Booth, a non-fiction writer from Birmingham, Alabama. My newest book Amazing Appellations: Discovering the Names of Jesus releases this Tuesday, May 31, 2022. I am very excited.
I love to read, although I do listen to more than I read these days. But I still collect print books and try to read whenever possible; I love the feel and smell of books. There is nothing better on a rainy day than being curled up with a good book.

Hi readers. I just finished book two of my christian historical fiction series called "The Sect of the Healed Chronicles". It an exciting, plot twisting roller coaster ride about the relatives of the people Jesus healed. There was a DNA change that happened when they were healed, and they passed down those changes to their children, who had special gifts and powers used to birth the new faith. Today the relatives are poised to release all the historical treasures and relics that will prove the christian belief of Jesus and God as real. Go to www.Deanbrior.com and read a sample of the books to see if you are up for the worldwide trip which is The Sect of the Healed Chronicles. You can also see them in Goodreads and log them in as one of your reads.
Hello everyone. My name is Holland Starke and I just published my first book. I am a spiritualist who never thought I would become a writer. The print version of my book will be available on June 5 and the e-book is available now for pre-order. After the launch date, it will be free for a few days. I would appreciate any tips and feedback as I am very nervous about this new experience. The name of the book is Wednesday's Child: The Tribulation of Freddie Mercury.
I have just submitted my latest novel, Twenty Six Days, to the Fitzcarraldo Novel Prize Competition. Twenty Six Days is as yet unpublished and tells Poland's story from 1939 to 1970 through the intertwining lives of 4 young people from a small town. At its heart is an old man's search for the sister left behind in Poland when the war started and never heard from again. So it's a mystery story as much as it is historical fiction or a personal journey towards the truth. I think submitting writing to competitions is a good thing in that it helps keep the (unpublished author's) hopes alive! So, fingers crossed....

My name is Michael. I enjoy reading historic novels and now I'm writing one about the American frontier in the 1750 era called My Father's Legacy. This is a pre-French/Indian War story of how the war actually started. It involves G. Washington and others less famous but no less worth knowing. I'm looking for critique partners who will share their work with me as well as evaluate my manuscript.

Hello everyone, My name is Meg and I am author of the humourous magical realism novel Supermums, the story of a trio of mum friends who have their lives turned upside down when they suddenly develop superpowers.
My book has recently won the Adaptable prize and was shortlisted for best fantasy novel in the Aurealis Book Awards 2022. I have been busy since winning the Adaptable prize pitching to Stan and Netflix and a range of production companies, learning a lot! I like to read magical realism and books with kick ass female leads, just like what I love to write! Looking forward to reading your recommendations.
Hello! My name is Marie Weiler, and I am a Canadian, independent fiction author. Since I like to read almost every genre, it seems only natural that I write everything from faery tales to science fiction, contemporary dramas to medieval fantasy.A lot of my writing influences are authors from past centuries (Tolkien, Lewis, Austen, Dickens, etc.), and I hope my writing will someday have its own signature trademark like theirs has had.

Hi Nathan! Thanks for the welcome. I did post under the Romance subsection in more detail, but it's erotic romance fiction and as soon as I get my author account approved, it should be linked to me :) I tend to focus on challenging societal norms, particularly around women's sexuality.
