I'm Maureen Morrissey and I just published my second novel, Sonder: Janie's Story. I retired from the education world in June 2020 after 37 years and began writing full time the very next day. My first novel, Woven: Six Stories One Epic Journey, which was in my head and heart most of my life, was published Nov 2020. I am loving this newfound side of myself as a writer; and I pinch myself every day because I cannot believe this is my life now!
Hello I just published my novel Lethal Keystrokes, under my name John D. May, about America's vulnerability to digital terrorism.Has anyone done a free e-book giveaway? If so, was it useful.
Thank you, Victoria. Best of luck, Clark. Maureen, I just love your enthusiasm. John, I did a Goodreads Giveaway last summer, ten paperback copies, and am planning soon to do the giveaway to which you refer. I felt the first giveaway was a success because I had an excellent response and I received a review by one of the winners that is probably the best review I have ever gotten. Some may expect more, but I was delighted. So, yes, I found the experience very useful. The very best of luck to you with Lethal Keystrokes.
Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing well. My name is Tanmay Unnikrishnan and I am a child author. I love science and math and during my free time, I like to write or read a book. I am the author of Phoebe The Mouse, a children's animal fiction book.
This book answers all of the paradoxes of existence and all the ancient questions of who we are and about the nature of the universe! Let us discuss the truth of my theory! I answer all sincere questions. There is now convincing evidence that the universe is a living organism! The questions of what the universe is, where it came from, what it evolves towards, and how it relates to human existence—are conclusively answered in terms of morphology as they begin to arise from Plato’s forms and Sheldrake’s work on morphogenetics, but mostly by genetics itself.
“The Cosmic Egg” https://www.amazon.com/dp/1521951918?... is a mind-blowing book that introduces a “mechanics of form”, where every form (natural or manmade) has a minimum and a maximum, including the universal form, and where form can thus be mathematically defined. Now, all our ancient questions are quite easily answerable, unsolvable paradoxes suddenly understood, the ultimate puzzle laid out to show the universe as organismic and as intimately relating to the human form!
The “Cosmic Egg” unifies physics with biology, with metaphysics, with legend, and with all other human observation about reality. It spells the end of mechanistic models of reality, and the beginning of a truly meaningful science that is principally the study of life. The “Cosmic Egg” unifies our existing paradoxes by offering the simplest possible reason for existence itself, the simplest of all possible truths. This spells the end of the mechanistic Age, and of science as we knew it…It is the dawn of true understanding and of purposeful evolution.
Do not miss the cutting-edge parenting insights in the new book “Travel-parenting”, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0725H975B , a highly insightful and progressive parenting book from the author of “Chess-parenting!” (read the 5 star review from one of the top US educationalists on Amazon!)The way we parent our children is based on yesterday’s cultural perceptions, on the ownership-model of ‘having’ children, on our own narrow agendas, and on what we and our culture arbitrarily think is best. We do not really respect our children or their own personal path, and at school we suppress their intuition and their instincts as worthless, while programming their minds with yesterday’s beliefs that cannot possibly bring out their full potential. School also introduces kids to a distorted and disjointed version of reality, where there is no adventure, no self-determination, no insight, no motivation and no freedom, while kids are trained to sit still and obey and copy. Schools promote a 2-sense learning, where only hearing and looking are used at all, and poorly at that! Only a 6-sense learning, and learning through the body, can develop the child’s full potential.
Travel offers an effective alternative to educational boredom and allows kids to learn under their own steam, in their own way, so they are always motivated to reach for their true potential, while living a real-life adventure! The senses of touch, taste, smell, and intuition are used for learning, and it is not only the brain but the entire body that is used!
‘Travel-parenting’ offers globetrotter tips and psychological insights based on a life-time of shoestring-travel and on raising two daughters in culturally diverse situations and within tribal societies. It gives insights into the effects of the consumer-world and its soulless technology on children; it questions our modern concepts for parenting and points at a severe lack of mind-development in our kids by comparing the growing incompetence of Western kids with ideal conditions and with tribal children who determine their own learning.
Apart from giving medical and practical advice, this book offers a look at the shortcomings of Western societies and suggests an entirely novel approach to raising children, based on values and attitudes that need to be cultivated and that are today systematically ignored. Teenage-problems are explained as not purely hormonal or unpredictable, but as mostly cultural, and widely caused by parents and society and the way we rule our children!
For a child to learn not only accepted facts, but to think for herself and to be emotionally and spiritually competent, more is needed than conceptual programming! A child needs to feel freedom to know it, feel respect to give it, and feel personally responsible to walk her own path!
Children could be so much more than mere receivers of our redundant, non-working ideas, and more than obese, desk-warming copy-cats! They need to learn from real life, in real ways, not just repeat what they are told by their culture!
When fully under their own steam as travelers, children can become heroes! They can invent their own action movie and their own fairy-tale, and experience themselves as valuable and competent members of various groups - rather than as purely obedient! Parent and child become a team where everybody learns, not just the child!
‘Travel-parenting’ takes a hard look at modern society and the parenting of our time, while pointing at age-old working solutions. It challenges parents to look in the mirror, to grow up, and to take responsibility. While it draws mostly from a solo-dad’s experience in raising two daughters, it ends with the story of finding a long-lost son and guiding him on a path of initiation into manhood, where the key is again respect, and the door to be opened – freedom!
I'm open to discuss my unique parenting philosophy and invite honest reviews, thank you!
Hello Everyone! I don't know if could class my self as a new author but I did write a book. It is here on goodreads at https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...It is a love letter and story to my wife, who has Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and was experiencing a BPD split triggered from a change in medications, anxiety and marital stress along with PTSD flashbacks. I wish to promote mental health awareness amongst us men and encourage positive change in relationships. Being a Man can be a problem when we grow up not knowing how to resolve issues dealing with our emotions, relationships, and stress.
thank you.

Aloha Ka Kou (Hi everyone), I have written a memoir which covers all of the 20th century, including the experience of my great grandparents who homesteaded in Oregon, the experience of my parents through WWII, and my life from Oregon to Kenya East Africa, where I was a Peace Corps volunteer. I was a real west-coast kid, until I joined the Peace Corps and went to Kenya East Africa. Whoa, that was an eye opener! The 20th Century was chaotic, but we survived. The jury is still out on whether the human race will survive the 21st century...

My name is Corrine Ardoin. I began writing when I was 12 and sent a story to Reader's Digest magazine that got rejected, but I kept writing and trying to get my work published. I write poems and enjoy poetry readings. I was a guest poet for my local literacy council's poetry festival for two years in a row. I played guitar and wrote songs which I performed in live theater and in local concerts. I write essays, which you can read on my website, corrine.ardoin.us. I got into birdwatching and wrote some guidebooks for birders where I live. But, then, I got into genealogy and wrote about my family history. I tried writing fiction and finally got published by Black Rose Writing. That has taken me further afield than my local area. I have loved the new connections I've made. I write the Pine Valley series, Fathers of Edenville, Mothers of Pine Way and, my newest, A Place Called the Way. These reflect the journey I have taken in life, striving to heal old wounds and find my place in the world. Thank you very much. Fathers of Edenville Mothers of Pine Way A Place Called The Way

Welcome and good luck took me 14 years of writing then finding an agent and then the agent finding a publisher then finally 20 years total seeing my book in print! Long road but worth it in the end! Two If By Sea by Rick McCann!
Great to be part of this group. I am an author of historical fiction, mainly spy thrillers set in the 1930s and 1940s. I am also an editor with 30+ years experience in academic publishing, been a commissioning editor and still work on the book production process for ebooks, paperbacks, etc.,. I love reading historical fiction, spy thrillers, action/adventures, and the classics (Dracula, Moby Dick, etc.). Always looking for a new book to read!
Hi everyone. I hope I'm allowed to share this here? I am looking for some help with the launch of my second children's book Emma's Sunflower. My publisher has some books to giveaway to anyone who might like to review it? The link is: https://forms.gle/XX4X7okvTFuu1Mc9A It would be fantastic if you were able to. Thank you so much, Phillipa.
Well, Folks, it looks like the low-life scammers are back and once again spreading a load of BULLSHIT about my books. Comments 19863 through 19867 are the same parasites who have given me trouble on here since last July when I refused to remove a thread I started about scammers. They were back in December and it looks like they're back again now. Please ignore the comments because there is no truth to them. They've never bought my books let alone read them -- in fact, I highly doubt they even know how to read! They think I'm going to fall for their pathetic attempt at extortion, but it won't work, ever, never in a million light years!!!!! You would all do me a huge favour and flag the comments. Thanks! Let's just carry on with our normal subject matter.
I'm a new author, new to GR, and a veterinary surgeon who is mostly retired but still part of the profession I've loved for 48 years. My book is "Their Tails Kept Wagging: Pets Show Us How Hope, Forgiveness, and Love Prevail." It is a collection of stories about patients of mine who suffered severe illness or injury but with their will to live and compassionate caregivers they defied the odds and recovered. Here is the Goodreads link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... I would love some reviews but unsure how that works so am open to advice. Thanks! Stephen Birchard
Stephen, just watch out for the "reviewers" with no profile picture and who keep their accounts private, like the aforementioned parasites above. They also tell you they have no access to Kindle and don't read messages on here often.Your book sounds cute, by the way. I wish I had time to read it but have probably two dozen books on my "to read" list. There are never enough hours in the day! Good luck with it.
Excellent advice Gina. Thank you. Hopefully my book is readable even years from now so, who knows, maybe you'll have time then haha!! Thanks again.
Hello everyone! I'm a primary teacher and I am new to Goodreads. I have recently started writing my first novel. I still have a looooong way to go but I'm so excited about it. Wish you all a lovely afternoon.

Reading Your WritingDo you, as an author, work to satisfy readers or to satisfy yourself as a creator? There is a third, intriguing possibility: Do you distance yourself and work to be a satisfied reader of your writing?
For me, there is real joy reading back on my writing, not as an editor or a critic but as a reader, about the characters, the places, the situations, seeing how the story and stories unfold, who wins and who loses.
Does that make me arrogant or narcissistic? I think not.
When immersed in putting a chapter together I often can't wait to get it down on paper, especially one that unfolds as it goes along connected not by pre-ordained dots (though such chapters, too have their merits) but by streaming of mind and imagination.
Is this perhaps what drives all writers, to create and to feel, to cry and laugh in touching emotions inside and described in a way to make not only others experience such emotions but themselves as well by disassociation that can make their creation a story to be enjoyed as well as a manuscript to be sold?
I'm interested in your thoughts. Have a beautiful day, and God bless.
I would like to refer you to my first professional review by Kirkushttps://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

It helps me to see how my book is coming along, when I read it as though I just purchased it or got it from the library. I love that wonderful feeling of opening the book and reading the first page.

You always write to satisfy your readers. Of course distancing yourself and reading the book gives you a unique perspective. The outsider looking into the world you have created. Helps you grow creatively.

Hi, to everyone. My name is Mary. I still class myself as a young adult and impressionable. I've joined because I've just become a friend of Mike and he has read lots and is part of your group.
I'm the only person in my family that reads: they laugh at me. I started out with run-of-the-mill thrillers: I shan't mention titles. My family would say, "Why waste your time and money. Watch the film."
I am the youngest in the family and I lived in a small house with all my brothers, my mum and her boyfriend. My brothers are just thugs: never work, sit in front of the telly all day, drink, fight and cause trouble. My mum and her boyfriend are little better.
I used to work in a supermarket (shelf-stacker) and read on the bus when going to and from work. An elderly gent used to say, "hello," whenever he saw me and once asked about my book. I wasn't too complimentary. He said, "A good book teaches you something." That comment put me on a path to learn from my reading. A short time after, I joined Goodreads and since have moved to live with a lady who once taught English and History. Her son, who I think must be on first name terms with just about everyone in the country, found me a job in a garden centre and paid for me to go to Open University; where I'm reading History.
I'm in my first year and so studying like mad.
My life has changed, I am the luckiest girl in the world and all because of a man on a bus.
I'm now reading what I believe is 'good stuff'. My interests are being drawn to thrillers and crime set in Eastern Europe.
I've also read two books by a Goodreads author: I wrote to him, explaining how I had learnt so much from his books and how I admire someone who has travelled in such places as Siberia. He tells me he is in Europe helping to provide aid-work and involved in the transport of aid-supplies and other things and has little time to go online. I have asked his permission to talk about his books on your group and await his reply.
I ask, can I provide a review of Ben Carlyle's books, if he allows me?
Mary, have you read The Five by Hallie Rubenhold? It sounds like a book you may enjoy. I have not read it yet but have listened to her podcast on the topic.
Hello, all. I am new to Goodreads. I had no idea the richness of the site. I had primarily only used it in the past to collect beautiful and moving quotes. I am still stumbling my way through this place like a new student on campus, but have been excited to meet new people and find new books to adventure into.I was always a reader. I came home from the first day of kindergarten and vowed I wasn't going back because I hadn't learned to read. Motherhood paused my adventures into books, but I have reclaimed that space in the past few years. I average fifteen books a year and I enjoy many genres.
I recently had a burst of insanity and wrote my first novel. It is currently being beta read. I don't know what will ultimately happen with it and how it will get out into the world. It seems this first character and its world have blown open a dam in me and more stories are lining up in my head ready to burst out. Perhaps I am now fully insane and I honestly don't think I mind.
:) Thank you for allowing me to join this community.
Welcome, always good to see new faces! Try "Two If By Sea," by Rick McCann a mystery thriller with a little spice, characters you can relate to and believable plots throughout the book! www.ballastmarineservices.com
Happy reading and once again WELCOME!
Hi, Mary. Welcome to Goodreads. I'm so glad the man on the bus told you what he did. "A good book teaches you something." That is so true! I'm glad you enjoy reading and I'm thankful you've found a new job and a new place to live. May you find many wonderful books to read and enjoy. If you like inspirational historical novels, I hope you'll look at my debut novel. It took me years to write it and I just published it in January. Under the Tangerine Tree is an inspirational historical novel set in 1963. Although I wrote it for middle-grade readers, many teens and adults have read it and enjoyed it. Several have told me it's for people of all ages. If you read it, I hope you'll let me know what you think of it. Again, welcome to Goodreads!

Hi,Thank you for letting me join. Last year I won Dragonblade Publishing's WriteStuff competition and a three book publishing deal (that I'm hoping to extend). This enabled me to get an agent as well and currently I'm waiting for my third book to come out on May 31st.
My books are time travel historical romance set in Dark Age Britain at the court of King Arthur. No knights and stone castles though - everything is very realistically portrayed as you'll see if you read my reviews.
I also write children's and YA books which I'm hoping to get published with my agent's help, and am currently researching a new subject for a historical novel.
I live in a canal boat in the south of England with my husband and our rescue dog and cat.

Hi to all.It is my pleasure to participate in this group.
My name is Jossef Salman, mechanical engineer who loves his work and the challenges it brings. After work, I need to read as much as I can. I really cannot stop reading and it makes my life so beautiful and my time very valuable. I do not like fiction that much, I think it's a waste of time to read a fictional story of any kind, it's like reading someone else's fantasy that is pointless. But sometimes a good title piques my curiosity and compels me to read the book.
I did not belong to an online reading community until I wrote my first book, "link: Egypt History and The Ancient Wisdom" Then I had to start promoting my book, and I hate nothing more than marketing.
Now I am just part of some author reader communities and writing on my own blog and may start a new edition of my book soon.
It is my pleasure to be among you
