Cecelia Tichi | 74 comments The lurid, seamy underside of the glittering Gilded Age of rich, socially distinguished elites embroiled in 1890s murders--all brew into fiction bolstered by historical facts! (My twenty years research and teaching ripen into this new mystery crime series.)
The storyline: a young wealthy married couple, Roderick and Val DeVere, sleuth to save a friend from certain death in Newport, only to face a plague of homicides in New York in the 2nd outing in the "Gilded" series. (Amazon reviews "A Gilded Death" 4.5 to 5 Stars, and here comes "Murder,Murder, Murder in Gilded Central Park" Jan. 1, '22.
HBO Max broadcasts "The Gilded Age" (1/22) and Cecelia Tichi bets her books will steep you deeper in the tumultuous era! Welcome aboard!

Jaime Sherrill | 2 comments Hello, I'm Jaime I am an old reader but new to the writing game.
I have written a physics book I am going to title 'Gateway to physics' I think. It's a book about new physics theories, I am trying to make it readable and interesting for the general public. I think people would like physics if they just understood it better. I am trying to explain it in new ways.
If anyone would be interested in beta reading at least some of it I would be grateful. I really need advice about which parts are difficult or incomprehensible. If anyone has a work they would like me to beta read in return, I'd be happy to oblige.

Narni Narni (narniauthor) | 16 comments Hello!
I just joined the group!

I love reading and writing! Though I don’t get much time to read like I used to since I have little ones (I still have a pile of books to read still), but I still write whenever I get the chance. I’m aspiring to be a writer and hopefully I’ll reach that point one day. Haha

Currently I only have two books out (FALLEN ANGEL: The fall is just the beginning and BLACK ANGEL: They’ve been waiting…) which is a Paranormal/Urban Fantasy/Romance novel. I’m only a small author so I hope people will give my books a chance and read them. (And if I’m lucky review them haha) I do put a lot of work and effort into the books so they can be good quality to readers out there. (I've completed Book 3 but it needs editing still lol)

Anyway, I’ll just drop the link at the bottom if anyone is curious about them, but besides that, I hope I can make some friends here who love books as much as I do! ^^

Book 1: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07MYCXQ71
Book 2: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09J51D4Z4

Although I'm a day ahead, but to those who are on the other side of the world.

Happy New Year to you !!! :D

Camila Benevenuto | 1 comments Hi, everyone!
First, Happy New Year!
I'm from Brazil and reading is my favorite thing to do (next to travel).
When I was younger I used to write short stories but life happened and I haven't written anything since college. Who knows this is the year I come back to it (fingers crossed)?!
Anyway...Since 2019 I have been reading more independent authors and thought this was a nice group to find new stories :)

Jeffrey K. (wwwjeffreykschmollcom) | 1 comments Greetings!

My name is Jeff and I am a recently retired engineer and project manager. I have lived and worked all over the world including Scotland, Angola, and Louisiana. I have been married for 39 years and have two children.

I am writing my first book. It is called The Treasure of Tundavala Gap, and is just about ready for "beta testing." Here is the blurb:

Mateus de Silva is a Cal Tech PhD student, a lonely genius working on a groundbreaking doctoral dissertation. His estranged grandmother dies in Santo Domingo, Cuba. Her last words surprisingly spoke of Mateus, which prompts him to attend her funeral. After the ceremony, Mateus discovers a cigar box in his grandmother's attic. Inside he finds a love letter with a hidden message from his grandfather, the war hero. His grandfather is Juan Antonio de Silva, a General in Fidel Castro's Revolutionary Army during the Angolan Civil War. The message hints at a hidden treasure in this West African country. Mateus travels to Angola, with his best friend Tay, determined to find his grandfather's treasure. Horatio Ilidio, crime boss of the cruel Angolan mafia, is ready and planning for their arrival.

Thanks for having me!

Jeff

Cleveland | 60 comments Hi Vincent.
Thanks for your good wishes for the New Year.

I've been offline for some years but having another go I'm now in on this site.

I'm a writer with many short stories and articles. Poems too. I stopped writing because of family trouble and then COVID came along.
I have a fantasy novel with a logline, and short prologue. I'm contacting agents who deal with Middle Grade novels. Also have a collection of short stories and prose descriptions of 'horrid' paintings by an international artist.

Emma | 3 comments A little about me:

I live in Maryland now. I was born and raised in a small town called Bamenda, in a country I thought was my birthplace called, Cameroon. Someone must have lied to me!
I like to say I am born almost symmetrical in nature – that’s if that’s even a thing;
Ambidextrous by nature
Electric by profession. Here’s something fun related to what I do:

And thoroughly an overthinker
But a lover of a good story or a great movie
Sorry horror fans – not that for me.

P.S. My debut book UNRAVELED: A Personal Journey into Conflict, War, and Diplomacy is now available on Amazon.
You know the best gift an author can receive is that of an honest review. So go ahead, I’d greatly appreciate it

Cleveland | 60 comments Good Morning Emma
I am pleased to read what you write about yourself.
I'm a writer and I've written all kinds of stores. That includes writing on art, and an ebook.
I live in a beautiful part of the country where the writer Ian Fleming once lived.
I've done all kinds of sport and been a lifeguard.
I lost my son about 4 years ago and today I know by his death he has been partly responsible for countless future lives being saved . He will not be forgotten.
I have a MG novel that I say is good and not published yet as I'm seeking an agent. I stopped writing to look after my now late son. So I'm returning to writing and trying to catch up.
Hope to take a look at your book. Please ask if you need any help, I can only try if I can.

L.B. Harpdog (lbharpdog) | 40 comments Hi

My name is LB.

Well I created creatures called Bampires from the world Bamptillia. The way I write is not like any other writer. I write to capture your heart. I want you to feel exactly what is going on.

MIND NIGHT BLUE is my way of speaking to my Ex-girlfriend. I was truly in love with her. She was my world and I let her go because we had other people we were with. I wanted to apologize to her, let her know that I still love her and will always love her.

This story allows me to share with you how much she really meant to me. Palmyra was everything to me. MHSTY means MyHeart Sings To Yours. That was how we said I Love You. That way she knows it was me and how I felt about her.

So all of my stories are about her, because even now, she is all I think about.

That is why I write. I would love to win her back, but her happiness is all that matters to me.

So I look forward sharing my love of Palmyra with you in the form of an extremely erotic story called MIND NIGHT BLUE.
Thank you for listening and welcoming me here

W.A. McDonald (wamcdonald) | 2 comments Hello Goodreads,

My name is Bill, I write as W.A. McDonald. I now live in Sioux Falls, but previously lived in the greater Twin Cities metro area of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I share my home with my lovely wife, a dog named after an aircraft, and a cat named after a cat.

I have paid the bills by working in the IT field for the last ten years. Before that I spent my days looking out a windshield while holding a steering wheel. A wonderful place to let your mind wander, but not a good environment for writing.

I write mostly science fiction and for the last year have been fascinated with flash fiction.

I published a collection of short stories called Rattled Mind which is available on Amazon and distributed via Draft2Digital. Those same stories are available on my website along with a collection of many others. Stop by my website whenever the spirit moves you.

Building websites and managing them is another hobby.

I don't count the number of times I've edited a book. Do you have set thoughts on how many times it takes to edit a book before it is finished. I wish it was take and the book was finished.
I have found it useful to have a collection of words that are overused and another group of words used which are wrong. Would you like my list. It is free. Let me know.

Aristotle Evangelos | 4 comments Hi everyone,

I've been writing for a long time, but I only recently started publishing my fiction under this pen name. I am fairly well-published as an academic, but chose self-pub for my fiction.

As an archaeologist, I write professionally about the past, but my fiction is set in the future. Both, though, turn out to be primarily about the present, in many ways.

Looking forward to exploring Goodreads, both as an author and a reader.

message 19400: by Professor (new)

Professor P. Briar | 3 comments Hello, I've been writing since the 1970's when I was invited to join the military. I use the pen name "Professor Briar" since I also write under my own name in a field of engineering. Often when I am writing I am also smoking my pipe. Perhaps that is why some of my fictional characters also smoke pipes, certainly it fits with the era in which the stories are set. Primarily I write to entertain a few friends who enjoy my little adventure stories in time and space and share my interest in the history and evolution of technology. Ok, specifically early electronics, the Babbage Engine, trebuchets, Studebaker's and dirigibles, I suppose. Eclectic or eccentric? It's just not easy being both mad and a scientist, but at least I know where my slide-rule is at the moment. I enjoy titles and stories that are just a little tongue-in-cheek. I've also traveled globally and like to incorporate aspects of those locations in my writing. There really is nothing quite like a sunny may afternoon in Barcelona. Consider any night in Tokyo. Or a rainy night in Shinjuku.
Enough said and thanks
