Hilary Thomson (hilarythomson) I'm Hilary Thomson, author of A Will To Murder, a comic murder mystery available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I'm also the author of a couple of Lord of The Rings parodies that have been kicking around the internet. If you're curious to look at them, the parodies are posted on my author page here: Diary of Saruman and here: Pippin's Diary

The latter story is older and has accumulated a respectable amount of readers over the years. The first is just a of couple months old. Judging from the reactions I've gotten, people seem to like them. I've recently decided to make the plunge and put more of my work out there for people to read.

G.K. Masterson (gkmasterson) | 6 comments I'm Kelly Beard and I'm currently investigating self-publishing my first novel online. I have been trying to go the traditional route but after several months of non-response from agents and agencies in the US and after one of my friends (also an author) had success in self-publishing, I've decided to check it out myself.

I work mostly in epic fantasy but I am currently planning a general fiction title.

When it comes to reading...well, if it has words, I'll read it. ;)

Steven Wood Collins (stevenwoodcollins) | 10 comments Greetings,

I'm actually having the time of my life, somewhat occasionally of the devil of a kind variety, as an Indie author and publisher. From ground zero as a book publisher, six months later I've succeeded in self-publishing a product I believe that ranks with any on the marketplace.

I recently posted the epub edition on Goodreads you can sample to see what I mean.

Cheers.

Athanasios (athanos) | 60 comments Howdy everybody. I wanted to tell everyone who doesn't already know, about my two literary efforts Mad Gods & it's most recent sequel, Commitment. They're both well represented at my webpage: www.mad-gods.com and are available @:

Mad Gods:
description
The Antichrist lives. He is wanted dead or alive by Satanists, the Catholic Church and the Dark Nobility.

Kostadino must save him or let the world turn into hell on earth.

Commitment:
description
Adam watched Mad Gods drag his father to Hell.

Melusine Rothschild, Grande Dame of the Black Nobility wants to raise him. She is part of the World Elite that live by Predatory Ethics and seek to guide him in wielding the power and influence of his dark birthright.

Adam, the teenage Antichrist/AntiXos, wants none of this. He watches his TV shows in one of Danvers Mental Hospital's nice padded rooms, snugly dressed in his own long sleeved, buckled, canvas jacket. He feels safe here away from a hostile, ravaging outside world.

He's horribly wrong.

Kane Faucher (docx) Thank you, Vincent.

I've a number of books in the past seven years, the most recent an almost-bestseller The Infinite Library. I've published extensively in literary journals, some journalism, and produced a good many academic articles. I am currently a professor at a media studies faculty with research interests in the metaphysics of information and digital narcissism. My upcoming novels include the final two volumes of the trilogy (Infinite Atrocity and Infinite Grey), and I am hoping to finalize arrangements for the release of a social media novel in the coming nine months.

Nola Lightman (nola_lightman) | 5 comments Hi all,

I'm an aspiring author, currently working on my first attempt at publishing a story (novella), still untitled. I'm hoping to publish my WIP (work-in-progress) next month before Christmas. Super excited about it.

I've been making up stories since I was little but only for myself. Within the past ten years, I've been consumed with the desire to throw some of my quirkiness on paper out into the world.

I love all things paranormal. So naturally the strange and impossible is what I write, mainly paranormal romance and paranormal young adult. With all of that being said, it's a pleasure to meet all of you and happy reading and/or writing!

I mainly joined this for recommendations:) I want to see what everyone reccomends for a 17 year old looking for a romance/fantasy book that does NOT involve vampires and werewolves.. hah!

Lori Strongin | 26 comments @Irene--
Have you read the Lord of the Fading Lands series by C.L. Wilson. It's been billed as "Lord of the Rings, just with more women in it." I got a free copy of the first one at the RT conference two years ago and have been a rabid fan ever since. They're well written, introduce new takes on classic high fantasy tropes, and the supporting characters' romances are just as well plotted and written at the main couple's.

She's got five books out in the series, with I *think* another two planned.

Smiles!
Lori

Lori Strongin | 26 comments @Ronald- Marked it to check it out! :)

Well said that authors need to stick together. The publishing industry is so uncertain right now, and writing itself is such a lonely profession, it's comforting to know that there are others just like us, going through the same uncertainty and frustrations. In other words, it's nice to know we're not the only nuts in the asylum!

Smiles!
Lori

I don't know just what constitutes a 'nice cover', but I like to think that the cover of my sci-fi novel, The Understanding, is unusual and therefore garners interest, yet also is almost a visual cryptic which complements the cosmology behind the storyline.

Nell Grey (nellgrey) | 59 comments Hello, I'm Nell Grey and I'm an artist and writer with three novels in print form. I've just published my latest, My Imaginary Life, as a Kindle book, with a gently comic fictional biography to follow soon.

My first novel, Solitary Pleasures, is now out of print, so I'm hoping to publish that as a Kindle next.

Reading time is limited and precious these days, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Goodreads will help me to choose wisely!

Xavier (xpxp) | 5 comments Spencer wrote: "Welcome Xavier! You sound very helpful to everyone :)"

Certainly hope to be. Reviewers often play their part with impunity; for new authors or new titles they can cause needless & undeserved setbacks costing months of time and effort to undo. We've all seen it. I aim to expose the worst examples in the public square.

Considering the odds stacked against the author as it is, a little common courtesy should reign. When that ethic is overlooked, someone needs to stand up. And I'll be as discrete as I'm asked to be! :-) Thank you Spencer.

Hope you don't mind all the questions, I figured an unbiased forum was the best place for these answers. I've been pulled in by bells and whistles promises before.

Has anyone tried Createspace?

My husband made my cover design for me. I told him exactly what I wanted and wouldn't settle for anything less.

It required some graphic design experience, and we did everything ourselves--formatting, design, editing--with some help from friends. Lulu is definitly a do-it-yourself option, although they do offer some of the services noted above I have not used them.
