I found the front cover the hardest part to be honest, I knew what I wanted in my head..getting it a certain way took time. Your front cover has a vibrant powerful feel about it.

L.J. Held (leahsays) | 2 comments Hi Everyone,
I've been on Goodreads for years, but never participated much (I'll blame being technologically challenged). I've always been an avid reader (devouring books in one sitting), until just recently I've never been brave enough to do anything with what I've written. I have a book on Amazon right now (My Heart's Playlist). It's a YA Romance/Coming of Age Fiction book. I have no idea how to spread the word effectively (other than word of mouth from friends). I also have no idea how to get reviews. Any information is greatly appreciated. I'm excited to make some new friends (hopefully) and some writing connections.

“So, what did you do this time?”
“I smiled, with that innocent subtle shrug, my mind evaluating the alternatives, weighing one response over another. My thoughts came a bit slower when I had a hangover….”

Mehul Jain (mehul_kj) | 3 comments In the last year, we all have discovered something new about ourselves or around us, and I did too. I discovered that I had a zeal for writing fiction. So I spent most of that extra time in the last few months writing an ordinary story (like yours and mine), but with a twist (just like we have in our lives). The fiction book is now published on Amazon Kindle as, 'One Story One Blunder One Destiny'.

The initial chapters of the book are available for free to read on Amazon (https://amzn.to/3sIhbcp). I would be very happy if you can give it a try and review the same on Amazon. Needless to say, any feedback will be always welcome.

Also, if you like the content, please do share it with friends and family and also on social media for others to have a read too!

Thank you so much in advance!

Melinda Hi, all. New to the group. As I get my bearings and learn more about you, let me introduce myself. I'm an author/editor/illustrator. My first stand-alone book, Hotel Toledo, was published early 2020 by Glass Lyre Press. And then ... Covid. While everything was shut down, I connected with a second publisher - Imperium Publishing - who has now released Home Front (historical non-fiction) and Raven (science fiction, the genre closest to my heart). As with most writers, I'm also an avid reader. Looking forward to connecting with like minds.

Thaddeus Cooper | 4 comments Hello all, my name is Thaddeus and I'm an author and blogger who writes about the history of the arcade game Skee-Ball. That includes the companies, people and ephemera. My co-author and I published a deep dive into the history of the game in December 2016.

Seeking Redemption: The Real Story of the Beautiful Game of Skee-Ball

I love writing about niche topics that people either don't know about or have never thought about. Skee-Ball is over 110 years old, coming to market in April 1909 and it has woven itself into the very fabric of Americana. No one alive today has ever known a world in which it didn't exist--and most people have ever thought about its fascinating history.

I've continued to write about the game on my blog (https://thaddeuscooperblog.wpcomstagi...) because we had so much material that it wouldn't fit in the book! The research to get to a book was five years in the making and I continue to do more research because more information surfaces almost daily--we passed ten years back in February.

In case anyone wonders, I live in Northern California with my wife and two adorable cats, Mao Mao and Dorian.

You can find out more about our book here: http://www.nomoreboxes.com/. I'm looking forward to meeting authors and readers here.

Hi Betty, our daughter is currently in BC! She has been breathing smoke for weeks now but finally the skies have cleared. We, the parents, are stuck here in the UK, and she feels far, far away. She loves it though. I have a book on Amazon, with what I now realise is a terrible title as no one knows that the Alien is a Brit in the US. It is Joe, Al, the Alien and the Girl with Thistledown Hair. When my daughter finally got around to reading it, she said she loved it. When I said, you aren't forced to say that, tell the truth. She answered with, Mother dear, I wouldn't read 300 pages if it wasn't good, even for you. Well, that told me! I shall look forward to your future posts.

Verena Key | 15 comments Hello, my name is Verena Key, I am an author of two books, which were self published on Amazon in June and July this year (2021). Whereas these two books belong to the romance genre, I am currently working on a fantasy novel for young adults, and I have also written a couple of (very) short SF stories - you can find some of them on my webpage:
https://www.verenakey.com
In my unfortunately limited free time, I read and blog about books and my experiences as a writer, or write reviews for books with an aim of supporting self-published authors like myself. I also serve as a beta reader to those who need help and care about my opinion. I like the interaction with other authors and it helps me improve my writing skills. I'm glad to be here and I'll do my best to contribute to the discussions in this group in a meaningful way.

Hi Verena, welcome! I too write romance, I have one modern one currently on Amazon set in Montana where two cowboys meet two women. No one is on their first time on the merry-go-around; all have histories. I would love to see some reviews from US readers! I also am writing a series of Historical romances. It is good to see another romance writer appear. We get a bad press! Stories with people acting as vigilantes and ignoring the law are raved about, but tell a story of people finding love and hope, well, we are so often just wallpaper. What do you think?

Hi Meg! Thanks for the welcoming words. Romances are great. And if you look at the statistics, romance books are among the most popular ones. I think a lot of people read romances, but are reluctant to publicly admit they do. However, I am not a fan of generic romances, where there is not much going on besides the love talk. And I like some realism - not every attractive man is a billionaire who lives at the gym. Oh, reading your post, I've just realized that one of the characters in my book is a vigilante, although not a very enthusiastic one. He still manages to be wildly romantic, so I guess one can combine these things :)
I'm based in Europe, but I love good cowboy stories and would be happy to read and review your book (although it might take some time, I am currently three reviews behind my schedule), so let me know if you have any book promotion coming where I can get a copy without spending too much money.

message 18899: by Robert (new)

Robert Drews | 96 comments Have you painted the outside of your house? I have, three times, top to bottom, on a ladder, on my knees, squished down along the foundation, to get at the walls, trim, pipes, along the eaves, and under them. And just as important as pouring the paint and wielding the roller, brush, or sprayer is doing the grunt work, scraping off the peeling, filling the holes, and washing away the dirt and the cobwebs. Only after that preparation can you get down to business.
Writing is a lot like that, I think. Before you put down a sentence or paragraph comes the important prep work, taking notes and constructing words and synonyms and antonyms, sentences and situations and conversations in your head. It may get tedious but is never time wasted. Before I start a chapter, my desk drawer is full of scraps of paper with ideas and phrases and moods and characters and situations, likewise the notes I enter on the Word document on my computer. I don't sit and start writing without a plan or a focus. And on the days when the notes are there but the feeling isn't, I do something else, read a book, or cut the lawn, or water the garden. Writing is not easy but it should be joyful, certainly and at least the final product. My method may not work for everyone, or even for anyone else, but so what. When I finish a chapter, I can't remember a time that I wasn't happy with it, and as important, with the work and spade work that got me there.
Stay well, everyone, and God bless.

Timothy Stringer | 2 comments Hello Everyone,

Tim Stringer here, very much new to this "published" game. My first novel, The Chronicles of Ashtetton is up on Amazon, Apple Books and Barnes & Noble. I've lived all over the world and hubby and I used to travel quite a bit. I'm planning on using some of that travel knowledge in subsequent endeavors.

At this point my genre would be paranormal, since my main character is a vampire, but I think overall I'd fit more into Science Fiction/Fantasy. After I finish the sequel to Chronicles, the next one will I think fit well into fantasy.

Science Fiction is probably my favorite genre to read although of late I seem to be reading more fantasy/paranormal. Hubby and I love to travel and have family in the U.S., Germany and Ukraine.
