Thomas Howard | 2 comments Hi! I'm Thomas H. Lichtenstein.
I'm 58 years old. I'm a full time musician & live in Japan. I have twin daughters and when they were little I started telling them bedtime stories about unicorns. I wrote them down and expanded them into a full length book.

It's a weird mix of Y/A, fantasy and sci-fi. Everything I love in a book!

Please, please, please read it. It's fun! I'm hoping to get some feedback...

Ginevra Mancinelli (ginevramancinelli) Hey everyone,

I'm Ginevra, author of "Fatherland", the first book in a series I named Consecration. It's my debut novel, but I'm already working on the second book.

Genre? Fantasy. I'm heavily influenced by George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire so I'm more into low fantasy. I prefer a realistic setting and paranormal stuff happening in the background. I'm not much into high fantasy (for now at least).
Audience? Definitely adult, or at least new adult. I don't think the themes I approach are suitable for anyone younger than 17.

This is my first post on Goodreads. I really hope to meet plenty of new friends and authors in my genre.

D Dina Friedman (goodreadscomddinafriedman) | 3 comments Hi, I'm D. Dina Friedman, author of two YA/MG novels, Escaping Into the Night (Simon and Schuster) about a girl who lives literally underground in the forest during the Holocaust as part of a large community of adults and children, and Playing Dad's Song (Farrar, Straus, Giroux) about a boy who lost his dad on 9/11 and heals from his grief through music. Since publishing these novels, I've turned to writing adult fiction (short and long), poetry, and creative non-fiction. I read in all these genres, but I have a soft spot for contemporary literary and historical fiction.

Hi Vincent!
Thank you for allowing me to join. I am honored to be here in this group. My name is Jennifer S. Segarra. I am a married mother of 2 children. I live in Miami. Also, I am a first time children's book author. My book was published on Jan 25, 2021.

It is called El Lechón Choncho: Otherwise known as Choncho the Pig! It is a wonderful story about my mother Hilda and her incredible, sometimes hilarious adventures with her favorite family pet, Choncho the pig; while growing up on her family farm in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

I love to write and have been writing stories since I was a little girl. However, it took for the pandemic to hit for me to realize 'life is too short' and I needed to make my dream come true and give this story life for my children.

I also love reading books. One of my favorite memories as a child was checking out a new book from the school library. Reading and writing is like a therapy for me.

I'm Jane M. H. Bigelow, and I write fantasy, alternate worlds stories, and suspense. I also do nonfiction, but so far that's mostly articles rather than books.

Apologies, by the way, if the initials look overly formal! It turns out that there are a number of other Jane Bigelows out there, and some of them write.

I also love to read--what writer doesn't? In addition to speculative fiction, suspense and mysteries, I enjoy archeology, history, travel, and poetry. I enjoy fiction with a romantic element, but most straight-out romance fiction is not my cuppa.

Currently, I'm working on self-publishing a suspense novel set in a world inspired by Versailles. We know who did the murder; we see it done. But will the Duchesse de Lille get away with it? If so, how?

Welcome Jane and that is nice to ask about others. I am retired from 43 years of health care--(nursing) and upon retirement made my debut as an author--writing my memoir: Then recently my second book was published. I wanted to share all I had learned about writing---and for those who have said, "I would like to write a book but don't know where to start." I wrote: "You Don't Have to be a Star to Shine---a guide for creative nonfiction and fiction. Gave examples of turning mediocre writing into excellence---creating delightful characters with rich dialogue ..... I am so happy it is out now! Again, thanks for asking!

White Feather | 3 comments Hello everyone. I'm Julie, a new self-published author. I published my first children's picture book Jacob and the Coronavirus last December. Three more children's picture books have been professionally edited and are waiting to be illustrated. They will all be published this year. I'm also working on a novel for adults, fiction based on a true story. That poor novel is the victim of my perfectionism so heaven only knows when it will be ready for publication. I'm happy to be a member of this group, to learn from all of you, and to contribute what I can.

message 17848: by Dana (new)

Dana LaValle | 1 comments Hello!

I hope I'm posting in the correct location. I just wanted to introduce myself - and voice all of my fears. LOL

My name is Dana, and I recently self-published my first children's picture book.

It was quite accidental (the whole situation). I never intended on writing a book, let alone creating the illustrations! However, I really am thrilled with this little book I've written. My hope (obviously) is that others will love it as much.

I have advertised on my personal, social media pages, and I'm humbled by the outpouring of love from friends and family. In fact, many acquaintances have shown their support and happily shared that they've purchased my book!

I'm just concerned that after this flood of people, with whom I have a connection, have all acquired their copies, I will fall off the charts and never make any additional sales.

As such, I have been losing sleep and endlessly searching the internet for help with book promotions. This book happened as a result of the pandemic. Covid-19 made us step away from our photography business of 13 years. After the writing and the illustrations started coming together, we wondered if we could profit from my hard work. Now, though! - I am just eager to get this book in the hands of as many children as I am able. I've had a couple of friends tell me that their children requested "Fern" as a repeat story at bedtime, and I've never felt so honored.

SO! That's the gist of it. I am happy to have found this community and truly hope to learn as much as I can from everyone here.

Thank you for having me.

Việt H. Nguyễn (moki83) | 16 comments Hello all, my name is Viet. I'm a writer/translator, and Vietnamese born and raised. I grew up reading and rereading Monkey: The Journey to the West (the Vietnamese translation) no less than 10 times, which had shaped the person and writer that I am today. Aside from JttW, I've also read a lot the old Western fictions. My favorite contemporary authors are Jin Yong (may he rest in peace), Cassandra Clare, and Rick Riordan.

My debut work is a cooperation with my best friend: Eyes. It's a Fantasy Thriller sets in Vietnamese culture. I contributed to world and character conception, building, and development, and translate/rewrite the novel from Vietnamese into English.

Since the main author of the book is a bit shy to introduce himself, I'll do it for him as well. His penname is Nghịch Tử, he grew up with Jin Yong's novel and memorizing Vietnamese folklore and tales to entertain his little brother. We met in 2017, through our shared love for the written words and culture, and had been best friends ever since.
