Hi Jane and Yasemin!
I started with short stories as well. The short stories allowed me time to focus on my character development (even though I was just writing them - not terribly intentional about it). It's a bit more of a challenge in my opinion to get people to care about and understand your character in fewer words. Also, that helped me to stay motivated because I could often finish a story in one sitting.
It was only after I got used to writing short stories that I moved on to writing a (not very good) novella and a pretty bad first couple of novels before I got to something I felt good enough about to sell. This last part is to say not to get discouraged while you hone your craft!

I recently read Circe by Madeline Miller - which was quite a vivid retelling of the greek nymph. I can only imagine the treatment you're giving to Medusa. Sounds intriguing! Welcome!

Hello all, I am new to Good Reads less than a month and thought I introduced myself but I have a tendency to forget that kind of stuff.
Forgive me if I try again. I am a recently self-published author of an incredible AI-prophecy thriller which was inspired by a true story that involves a program which escaped the NSA labs, a Russian hack of a CIA server, and a visit by the FBI to my home. You can learn more and media content at: www.guymorrisbooks.com
I was recently honored by Master Class as one of nine aspiring authors which is tre' cool. https://www.masterclass.com/articles/...
As a new author, I am learning A TON about how to build an audience and promote what has so far received over a dozen 5-star reviews.
I recently ran what I thought was a very successful Give Away on Good Reads and anxious to hear from those who add SWARM to their reading list. I would especially welcome reviews from every one of them. Yes, I'm thinking of you :-)
I am always open to dialogue, feedback, comments or questions.
The Good Reads community represents a unique opportunity. I boldly ask for YOUR help on how to succeed.

Hello, my name is Melissa Cummins and I'm excited to meet all of you. I am an avid reader and author of romance novels. I love reading about people falling in love and their journey down that road. I've been writing since I was a kid and published two pieces of my poetry, but I didn't get serious about improving as a writer and eventual author, until 5 years ago. At that point, I was just writing in my Tumblr and trying to see what worked best for me. I then found my own writing voice and published my first short story two years ago.
Since then I've gotten the opportunity to work on a wonderful anthology with several amazing authors, and have a few projects to complete. I'm still an Indie Author, but I believe there are benefits to traditional, and self/small press publishing.
I hope everyone's doing well and having the best day they can!
Hey folks! I write fantasy short stories with LGBT+ characters. My first ebook came out today! It's called Cracks in the Foundation :)I've been writing since childhood. I used to write fiction during class -- a teacher might catch you doodling, but if they see you writing they assume you're taking notes. I've wanted to be a professional writer since I was a kid, too, but everything I wrote didn't feel good enough to publish. This year I realized that I had to take that scary leap into publishing instead of putting it off forever, you know?
For non-writing hobbies, I play a lot of tabletop and video games.
I hope everyone's having a nice day, free of writer's block

Hello, Everyone,I'm Hazel and I'm an author. My newest book, Confessions of a Fat Cosmo Girl, will be released on January 26, 2021 Confessions of a Fat Cosmo Girl: How I Lost 122 Pounds Kept It Off How You Can Too
I am happy to be here with other writers. I have five previous books - humorous astrology - and wrote the Bedside Astrologer column for Cosmopolitan magazine for several years.
This book is not astrology, but a self-help/memoir of how I lost a huge amount of weight and how the reader can too.
I've flirted with fiction for decades and am thinking about writing a novel as my next project.
Hi everyone,I have been away for a long time now as I was working on my latest historical novel titled "The Dark Side of Glory."
From the last turbulent years of the reign of Herod the great to the Battle of Teutoburg, the histories recorded by Josephus, Tacitus, Cassius Dio and many others come alive in this powerful novel of love and friendship, deceit and treachery, hatred and vengeance, and political intrigue that tells the story of a young Jewish woman facing unimaginable horrors for refusing to bow to religious fanaticism.
The novel is published under my author name "Raven Kamali" and not my pen name "Blue Raven."
Here is the link to my novel: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P8HDFKZ
Hi,I'm Richard, I'm the author of the novels, Fat Man Blues (2015) and Near Death (2020).
I've also written a bunch of short stories for Kindle, which at some point I intend to compile into a paperback collection. I've just released my 2nd novel Near Death and am now kicking around an idea for the sequel.
Pleased to meet y'all and look forward to connecting with like-minded writing souls.
I have been on Goodreads since 2009 and have over 400 books reviewed on the site as well as 4 of my own books posted on my Authors Page. I have 26 friends and perhaps that shows I have not until recently spent much time on Goodreads. With my current book Work Matters: Insights & Strategies for Job Seekers in a Rapidly Changing Economy I decided that I needed to better understand and work with Goodreads. Better late than never perhaps. Check my page out. Glad to be engaging with the community.
Hi everyone,I'm a paranormal romance author. The third book in my Storm Series, Fiery Storm, launches on December 11th, so I'm pretty excited about that. I'm also an avid reader of the paranormal romance and romantic suspense genres.
I'm thrilled to delve into this community and meet more wonderful authors and readers.

I’m Cece from Portland, and I write reviews.I find that I pick books based in moods rather than genres. I often go through “book stages” where first I’ll be in a Dragon mood then move into vampires then into witches, etc. Rinse, repeat, victory

Merry Go RoundHi, it's great to finally be on Goodreads. It feels as though it has taken forever to get my book on the shelves and now it has finally happened.
I'm looking forward to interacting more with other writers and gaining readers for my book. Lily's story is one that needs to be told...but then I would say that, wouldn't I.
My second book is now a firm WIP; when not writing -hahah that's not often- I'm painting, giving Reiki, reading, volunteering or making house, all of which add up to a wonderful 'retired' life.
Greetings, I’m a screenwriter-producer turned author. I’ve mostly written poetry but am branching out into short stories and essays now. I will be releasing my first chapbook in later this month. I also do script reading and book reviewing.
I am a med student with a love for books. I have been writing ever since I was 10 years old. And as a child, you could always find me with a book in my hand. My favorite genres are history, romance, and adventure.
I would be honored if you checked out my book: Survive among the Vikings.
Hi everyone, I am the author of a book entitled Ten Thousand Shells and Counting: A Memoir. It is a true story about survival under siege in Sarajevo during the Bosnian War, and the only book that covers the horrific events in the city throughout the entire war.I am working on book 2 and I am looking forward to having it published next year. Meanwhile, I am happy to be here and connecting with many of you.
Stay safe and healthy!
Hello, I am Masood Rezvi, from Lucknow, India. As an author, I debuted in 2015 with Tightening Noose of Poverty.
Soon after, I organized a seminar on Growth with Justice at Unity Degree College, where I taught; and published a compendium of the participants' papers.
Since then, I am writing and writing alone. To feel the actual texture of my work, I think, you have to live through the confusion, trauma, and guilt of an officer facing an old wretched rustic woman crying her heart out, against whom he is duty-bound to enforce coercive recovery proceedings for a loan her deceased son - her only son, murdered allegedly by an influential person a few years ago - had taken, or probably you had to be on a decrepit bus in the witching hours in a dark, chilly night, from which the conductor is about to throw out a gasping and panting sick man in the mid of a lonely highway in a wolf infested area because the latter had a few pennies less than that needed for the ticket, and grapple with your conscience in remaining silent in your seat or speaking out. I write about the conflict between haves and have-nots. From this vantage point in the sixtieth year of my life, I strive to present a blend of feelings, experiences, and knowledge that I gathered as an agriculture student, as an agricultural officer serving in the Indian nationalized banking industry, and as s a member of the State Level Committee for Monitoring and Evolution of the Prime Minister's 15 Point Program for Minorities. To understand the central dogma of our new economic order, "wealth maximization," I did a master's in financial management and commerce. I taught micro and macroeconomics, currency banking and exchange, and financial management at Unity Degree College, affiliated with Lucknow University, as a guest. I want the reader to see through my eyes the scary realities of poverty, scattered abundantly everywhere, which the reader is otherwise afraid to behold.

Thank you so much for your recommendations, I will definitely look into that. Really interested in improving my writing. Maybe at school i thought i could write a short story for my students and see how they will respond to it.
