I love reading books about characters and settings outside my own culture (US, urban, white). As a writer, I'm skipping around genres--YA, dystopian, fantasy, romance. Love them all.

Don't worry, Esther. The marketing journey will soon become second nature to you. You learn as you go. I was in the hospital for most of last year, so I am behind the 8-ball so to speak. I am just now catching up to many things I had to put aside while fighting for my life. So perhaps we can share knowledge with each other along the way.

I'm Rose Milburn and I have just published my second novel, 'Still Waters Run Deep' on Amazon. It's the follow-up to 'Don't Judge a Book' which was originally printed via Blurb but I've since discovered that Amazon is much more affordable for readers. I've always been an avid reader myself and try to write the kind of books that I would love to read - they're women's fiction which is my second favourite genre to read, crime novels being my absolute favourite.

I'm happy to answer any questions about my books or about the writing process.

It’s fantasy that takes place inside the mind of someone you know. Possibly love. Maybe, yourself. And surely, yes, there’s a whole fantastic world out there, outside of our minds.

I have a readers' club, whose members get a free story, and also write about writing ADHD fantasy with an ADHD mind.

As a reader I prefer... actually, anything that is good. And the more, the better.

Nice to meet you! :-)

Because of the sheer number of people coming through this thread, I've no doubt many of our comments get lost on it (I don't fully read all of them), but credit to Victoria for always taking the time to welcome everyone.

Paul F. | 55 comments My novel "West of the Sunset" (5-star rating) is about a large wagon train on the Oregon Trail in 1852. Tyler Linders, his father Magnus Linders and 12-year-old sister Penny are on their way to Oregon. Some of the glamour of the Trail gets lost in the internal fights and external dangers as wagons break down, water gets scarce, Indians become troublesome (or helpful as the case may be), oxen traders become lecherous, and conflicts develop between some of the single men in competition for the single women, one in particular. Tyler is a part of that competition, notwithstanding another young lady's desperate attempts to win his attention. Who will make it to Oregon and who won't?

I'm J. M. Davies, Jen to my friends, and the author of The Rise of Orion paranormal romance series as well as several contemporary and women’s fiction novels. I live with my family, an adorable rescue hound Ella, and my affectionate kitty in a small town in New England close to the city of Boston, the coast, and the mountains. Since I could read, I've enjoyed an eclectic taste in books, but with a penchant for all thing's romance, and from my love of the written word, stemmed the desire to create my own satisfying stories.

My first heartwarming Christmas story, An Unexpected Christmas is out on the 11th October. I loved writing this story about Jenna and Ryan, highlighting the meaning of family, forgiveness and the real meaning of love.

I hope you enjoy it to.

Blurb
Jenna Hartman is attending the movie premiere of her latest release when a breaking story emerges that destroys her image and threatens her career. Forced into hiding, and with Christmas looming, the only place to retreat is Seashell Cottage in Sandy Bay. But returning home is far from easy. It means fulfilling her mom’s final requests and facing the man who broke her heart.

Farmer by day and furniture maker by night, Ryan Cooper doesn’t have time for a serious relationship. As head of his family, he’s trying to keep the business afloat. But when Tinks—aka Jenna Hartman, the childhood sweetheart who slipped through his fingers—reappears, he can’t ignore the fiery sparks between them, even if he should.

Thrown together, they share an unexpected kiss, but is that all it is?

As they spend time together revisiting the past, will Jenna be able to forgive him? Will Ryan make her realize what’s missing in her glamorous life—a family and the chance of real love?

Check it out on Amazon

Dana T (prestoreads) | 1 comments Hello, I'm Dana.

I've been writing novels since I was a kid--I took a strong liking to YoungAdult and Science Fiction themes -- but it wasn't until the beginning of this year since I actually aspired to become a published author.

I am currently writing a dystopian science-fiction trilogy where society mandates that children born with superpowers are immediately imprisoned and sterilized.

I've written another involving a character's daredevil friend that lives across the street who starts exhibiting increasingly strange and hostile behavior after losing a contest.

And another where a preteen receives a videogame console as a gift, but experiences hallucinations and other unusual side effects from playing it.

I really like pushing my imagination but I like reading too when I get the chance.

Angela Goldsmith (angie23goldsmith) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I am Angela Goldsmith from London UK.

I have written a short gothic, ghost story called The Graveside Bride which is currently available as an ebook on amazon. The story has themes of guilt and revenge.

Written in rhyme. It is a prose narrative poem, (but it is more of a short story than a poem.)

Here is the book Blurb

“On a Dark Tumultuous Night….And at the Dying of the Light…”
So begins Mr Lawrence Pinchpenny’s descent into a long, tormented, and haunted night. Visited by the mysterious, frightening, and ghostly apparition of The Woman in Grey. The spectre of The Graveside Bride. But why does she haunt his dreams?

The story, set in 1874 and is a ghostly and gothic tale of woe. Wrecking her revenge seems to be the soul motivation of this ghastly phantom. But why does she haunt Mr Lawrence Pinchpenny?

Mr Lawrence Pinchpenny is merely a solicitor in a prominent London law firm. But the titular Graveside Bride wishes to force him to experience feelings of guilt, regret, and despair? Why is this malevolent spirit from beyond the grave so intent on revenge? Why can she not rest in peace? And what role could Mr Pinchpenny have had in her sorry tale?

Written in rhyme, this gothic tale of mystery, The Graveside Bride is a short story which shares themes with Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Raven’ Wilkie Collins ‘The Woman in White’ and with Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas carol.’

It could be included as a spooky story to read on Halloween!

Justin Dew (justinldew) | 6 comments Hi! My name is Justin Dew and I'm the author of The Voice in His Head. Voice is my debut novel and I've joined Goodreads to market it. Here's the blur from the kindle page:

It is 1925. The First World War has ended, and a second one looms on the horizon.

Even as an orphan, Stephen always knew he was different, the Voice in his head told him so. When Stephen is adopted by the mysterious Bethany Andrews, he is thrust into a magical world that coexists alongside the mundane world.
After his adoption ritual, he utters a prophecy.
The lowborn children shall come, winter will guide them.
The children of space and time will hide them.
The queen of summer will find them, and the golden kingdom will bind them.

Stephen must discover the meaning of this prophecy, and survive the dangerous world he finds himself in.
Set during the prelude to World War II, The Boy with the Voice in his head is an urban fantasy historical fiction novel that will appeal to readers of the Magicians and the Dresden Files.

You can purchase it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K2CMJTV, and it will be available in early December through Audible.

It is currently free for Kindle Unlimited Users.

Michael Rothery | 7 comments Hi, I'm Michael.
I divide my time between working at my home in Elgin, cycling around the Highlands, and cruising the Atlantic/Caribbean islands in my yacht, Island Spirit. In past lives, I served twenty-five years in the Royal Navy and then another twenty as Director of a computer software company in the Midlands. Although I have written several novels since retirement, I consider To Run Before the Sea my first quality work. My character Rosie Winterbourne seems to be winning the hearts of my readers: I'm sure she both charms and infuriates in equal measure. I am currently (Oct ’20) completing the sequel, The Travel Agent, to be released in December 2020. Several more Rosie Winterbourne stories are on the way and I hope to build a big buzz around her.

Hi, beautiful people! My name's Tony. I'm a reader and a writer, but I don't do either one extremely well. See, my tastes are incredibly specific and I was diagnosed with hyper-active disorder at a young age. I try not to let this hinder me but sometimes I can't help it.

I love very weird, abstract stories in fantasy and horror. My own writing reflects this. I also like revenge since it allows a cathartic release; since I'm powerless to stop "evil" in my real life. The best way to showcase this is in my new book (yeah, sorry): Compendium of Psychosis. It's a collection of short stories and flash fiction.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08...

I don't know how to make a neat and/or attractive link. But it's on Kindle Unlimited.

Anyway, I'm warning you with peace and love, that one of the stories is pretty disturbing and intense, but it isn't gratuitous or exploitive.

Peace,
Tony

P.S. While I'm very thankful for technology and being able to find as many readers as I can; personally, I like finding weird books and not knowing who the author is. I like being surprised. I like it when it's more mysterious. But that's just personal taste.

Hi Paul,
This is an introduction thread, designed for people to just introduce themselves and maybe talk about their work a little. If you want to have a real discussion, you're better off either joining or starting a thread in the appropriate folder for the topic in question. People will be more likely to have an actual conversation with you that way.
