Summer Daniels (summerdaniels) | 15 comments Rick & Emma, etc.

I have to agree 100% that the promoting seems to be the hardest part. It seems I have spent a lot of time promoting for not much in the way of results.

Then again I suppose the "right" way to look at it is that I have sown the seeds far and wide that the winds of chance and favor may blow upon fertile ground - at some point. ;-)

Rick Daley | 10 comments Marketing and promoting are difficult no matter how you go...traditional or self-published!

Since my book is a Christmas story (fresh new take on the origins of Kris Kringle and how he became known as Santa Claus), I planned for a soft launch in the summer to get a base of reviews and readers, so when I do a bigger push later in the fall I have a good foundation to build on. So far I'm happy with how things are going. Sales are steady but not skyrocketing, but I don't expect them to at this stage (although I would be happy if they did, but that goes without saying, doesn't it?).

The best part is the reader response...it's been overwhelmingly positive, and that give me hope for the future!

Rick

Mat Nastos (matnastos) Mat Nastos here. I've been lurking here on Goodreaders for last month or so and have decided to dive head-first into the forum. Fantasy, Sci Fi and horror are my passions. I've even made my living from them for most of the past 14 years: first as a comic book artist (Elfquest, Spider-man, Superman), then a storyboard artist, and then writer/director for film/tv (8 horror flicks for SyFy/Cinemax, various cartoons for Disney, including Emperor's New School and Phineas & Ferb). Now, I'm taking time off to do some prose writing. I've even just released my first 3 short eBooks, which has been a TON of fun!

I was really excited to find a cool, laid back forum full of people who share that passion.

I'm doing the final review my novel (is it ever really final?) "Mechmans Malice" before it goes off to be edited.

Jo Dean | 2 comments Hello, I'm not sure of the lie of the land yet but I'm an enthusiastic reader looking for some fresh books (preferably ebooks) from authors with an original voice.

I read most genres except YA and bloody horror. I don't mind vampires but I think I've seen too many lately. I am broadminded and enjoy all kinds of thrillers and chillers. I particularly like books suitable for reading late at night when everyone is asleep and there's just me and the sound of the rain beating against the windows.

Let me be the first of many to welcome you. I'm a romance / erotica author, but I have to confess to a love of thrillers and chillers myself. You'll find a lot of very new original voices here I am sure.

Hi everyone, I'm Emma and I'm getting ready to self-publish my first novel which is women's fiction, though I don't write solely in that genre, it just depends what story comes to me.

I apply the same principle to my reading habits, I like all kinds of books and am always willing to try something outside of my comfort zone if it comes with a good recommendation and peaks my interest. Actually - sometimes when I hear a book is terrible that can peak my interest too and I have to check it out to see whether I agree! As a result my TBR list is growing all the time too! :)

George Stratford | 7 comments Hi everyone. I'm George.

I'd like to offer my novel, Buried Pasts, for appraisal by Goodreads members.

BURIED PASTS

This is an exact copy of the Publishers Weekly review that Buried Pasts received as a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award 2011.

A WWII bombing blitz over Berlin sets in motion the well-crafted plot of this sentimental thriller. Mike Stafford is a Canadian flying for England and leading a night bombing mission that ends with a crash landing and the unexpected death of his buddy. Siggi is a German woman whose mother dies during the bombings that same night. Eighteen years later, Siggi is unmarried and hardened by what happened to her, and family-man Stafford is heading back to England for a reunion of his old squadron. Fate brings Stafford and Siggi together to share their stories, but lurking behind the scenes is the emotionally disturbed son of Stafford’s dead friend out for revenge. Stafford blames himself for his friend’s death, but is there more to the story than he knows? Despite occasional lapses into melodrama, this page-turner blends suspense with a cast of characters who genuinely care for each other. It’s an engaging and satisfying novel for fans of adventure stories with a heart.

Buried Pasts is available in Kindle format from all Amazon websites.

For more information and a free sample chapter from this novel, you may also like to visit my website: http://www.georgestratford.com

And what is wrong with reading comic books if you really love reading them? (smile)

I was thinking you might be an inspiration to future generations. Some who love to draw and be creative but lack direction. Wait that describes my son...maybe it isn't true for many others. He's a grown man and I still think of him as a child some days...a teenager on others. (smile)

Have a great one!

About me: I'm the author of Tel Aviv Stories. I also write for The Jerusalem Post, Ynet, and sometimes Publishers Weekly and Huffington Post.

Carol Fetter | 164 comments Hello all!

My name is Carol Fetter and I'm very excited to be part of this group.

I recently published a nonfiction book titled Mommy Can't You See... His EYES Are Always On Me!

Based on a true story of my child abuse by a pedophile. Writing has been self healing for me and I hope to inspire other abused children to write their stories, first for their sake and maybe later to share it with others, like I finally am.

I have enjoyed the writing process so much that I am sure that I will be writing a lot more books. This one was challenging because I had to relive my past in order to write it down.

If this book does well, I will continue the story where I left off. My life has been a troubled journey but has left me with a lot of stories to tell!

I hope to also write some light hearted inspirational books down the road.

You can check my book out at the following websites.

I appreciate your time and any feedback that you can give.

I'm Phillip, 31, and I live in Leicester, UK. I'm the author of Liberator's Ruin, which is my first published novel.

I've chosen the indie author route, as I feel e-publishing is changing the way books are published (though the marketing can be a bit of a slog!).

I'm currently working on my next book, a sci fi thriller called Serial Psyence.
