Hi all, and thanks for the invitation to the group. I'm Kyle Fiske, and I've been puttering around with writing for nigh on a decade now. I finally put out my first short story collection last month, mostly sci-fi and horror. My settings are quite varied: rural New England, the Old West, feudal Japan, and distant planets in the future, and most of my protagonists are just average, everyday folks. I sometimes work in some literary/Christian themes, but most of my stories are more on the pulp side of the fence; there's usually a monster in there somewhere. I look forward to interacting with folks here! Even Closer Than the Sea and Other Stories: Strange Tales of Mystery, Horror and Science Fiction
Good Morning, Goodreads:My name is Jacqueline and I am an author of two books currently on Amazon. My latest book is in the final stages.
I am new to Goodreads and trying to navigate my way through the wealth of information as I learn the platform. I am thrilled to see so many writers and readers in one place discussing and sharing.
I look forward to contributing on my favorite books. I have been an avid reader since the age of 6! I hope to offer a few favorites that may have fallen out of the public consciousness and are still moving, funny, mysterious, and compelling.
All the best to each of you in your endeavors.
Ciao,
Jacqueline

Coincidentally, I've just submitted my information (essay) to THE AUTHORS SHOW, which will give you all my details. Please vote for my novel "Veronica's Papers" listed there, and encourage your friends to vote for it too, since its inclusion in their publication is determined solely by the votes cast for it.Thanks,
A. Colin Wright (see https://www.acolinwiright.ca and https://www.TheAuthorsShow.com.)
What if you could assemble a number of your past loves and watch how they interact, with a competition for them to guess what they have in common? But for this you obviously could not be present, and there’d be no fun in that. The solution: for them to be hypnotized into not recognizing you. Such is the theme of my novel "Veronica’s Papers".
The genesis of the book was my own experience of hypnotism: during an entertainment aboard a cruise ship and, later, during psychoanalysis. I have read widely on the subject, am aware of the possibilities and limitations of hypnosis, and know that the novel’s events are theoretically possible. Veronica is a professional hypnotist, who has helped Gerald, the protagonist, in his fantasy of gathering together some of his former loves. And where better than on a ship?
After Veronica’s death, Gerald receives a collection of her papers describing the cruise. But he has lost his memory of that time and has difficulty deciding whether the events narrated actually happened or are fictitious. There are twenty-three main characters, with the partners of Gerald’s loves—and some male friends too—included. One woman has been invited by mistake, as have some other friends and their relatives: as, for example, a former rival of Gerald’s in school. There are some passages written by Gerald, by Veronica, by one of his loves, and by a mysterious "Deus Ex Macchina."
The passengers form various relationships, some of them sexual. Comic relief is provided by a ridiculous Canadian, whose solution to the puzzle at the end amuses the others. There is a Scottish nationalist married to a religious believer, an overweight kleptomaniac, Rosanna, and a Russian woman, who can’t decide whether or not to return to Moscow afterwards—while Gerald’s wife, Elizabeth, has missed the ship’s departure. The cruise takes seven days, from Monday to Sunday, with a Prologue and an Epilogue. The ship stops at an island, where Elizabeth manages to join it and Rosanna is caught stealing. At the end there is a fancy-dress parade, in which most of the guests participate.

Themes are broadly those found in my other works: a religious understanding of life, the powerful influence of love and sex, and an interest in literature and art. Different characters’ native languages are those that Gerald—and I myself—speak and, in some cases, have taught.
Turning to my own life, its central focus has indeed been languages, starting in kindergarten with what was called basic conversational French. Oddly perhaps, I was no good at it, for it involved solely going round the room naming objects, such as “le feu” or “le livre” with no discussion of grammatical structure. In primary school, however, I tried to learn Spanish with a book, and then, after the English compulsory 11-plus exam, I took French at the King Edward VIth Grammar School in my home town of Chelmsford. I learned how to parse a sentence. Later I began German, gaining my General School Certificate, ordinary level, shortly after. In the Sixth Form, in 1955, I took the advanced level, in Modern Languages and English, earning a State Scholarship and Open Exhibition (a junior scholarship) in my entrance examination to Pembroke College, Cambridge.
I then had to do two years of National (military) Service in Britain—which I could have deferred until after university, but conventional wisdom said to get it out of the way first. Thus I joined the R.A.F., and was selected for the Russian course of the Joint Services School for Linguists, from which I got onto the advanced course for interpreters. After the Civil Service Examination, I was commissioned in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, where I would have attended its refresher courses but for the end of National Service in 1960.
During all these years I was fortunate to be able to use my languages: on school trips to Paris and Heidelberg, then as leader for Educational (School) Travel in France, Belgium and Germany. Later, I worked for Poly Travel in its London office and as a guide in Scotland (leading to a study of Gaelic too) and Switzerland. During and after my university years I was a leader for Craig Travel on twelve occasions—involving a great deal of organisation as well as communicating in different languages.
My writing career started at a relatively young age, with some early signs that I would become a writer. After reading a book on English history I decided to dramatize its kings using paper cut- outs as puppets. The project didn’t get very far, but I still have a few pages of elementary dialogue, such as William II dying by an arrow in the New Forest, with him falling off his horse and saying “Oh blow!” I was also fascinated by sailing ships and, at the age of six and a half, wrote five chapters (of two lines each, with my child’s atrocious spelling) about the "Santa Maria".
The next stage in my writing journey came when I was nine or ten: wondering what it would be like to write a book. Looking at one that I loved (Enid Blyton’s "The Castle of Adventure") I thought how difficult it would be to come up with so many words—I even copied down one paragraph to see what it would feel like. Little did I know that I would one day write "Veronica’s Papers", of nearly two hundred thousand words in its first draft
My expectations as an author: well, I certainly would like greater recognition, sufficient to be assured that the considerable effort I’ve put into writing is worthwhile. I don’t expect to become famous, but I would like my name to be known to those with similar tastes. In my fiction—strictly literary—I aim above all for excellent writing. And at least I’ve just heard that "Veronica’s Papers" has received an honorable mention for fiction in the 2016 Hollywood Book Festival.
If I’m asked about it, I say that I write everything except—after some disastrous early attempts—poetry: novels and short stories; academic books and articles; some journalism; six full-length plays and three one-acts. Most of these have been published or performed in amateur productions, or are going the rounds to agents and theatres. I don’t usually brag about myself, however: this essay is a new departure for me.
Best wishes and thanks to everyone, A. Colin Wright (acw@queensu.ca)

names Aaron Polish, and I read a lot of books, and review them after I'm done. Those who do not write great descriptions about stories in books, I will fall asleep.
Howdy,I'm a published author of two novels as well as an online, adjunct professor of religion for a couple of universities. My new novella, As the Leaves Kiss the Stream, will be released next week and available in all markets shortly thereafter. I truly look forward to interacting with this group. As both a reader and author, I've always been impressed with the power of words to change lives.
Writing is my lovely compulsion! I've written historical and contemporary adult fiction and am now writing young adult novels. I believe that along with writing a great story, a writer should use language that makes the reader see the ordinary in a unique way.www.lucindastein.com and www.spellboundcafe.com

Hi everyone. I'm Nikki from Ph. I'm an engineer who just loves to read. I'm also an introvert and it's my first time to join groups like these! :) I amlooking forward to write my own book in the future. Would love to hear great suggestions from you guys!
Salutations,I'm Ulff Lehmann, author of Shattered Dreams, sounds like romance, I know, but it is fantasy. The sequel, Shattered Hopes, is currently in beta-read, and I am working on the trilogy's conclusion, Shattered Bonds.
While an agent and a publishing deal would be nice, I do like the freedom self-publishing allows... no demographics to pleasure, no marketing "experts" telling me I need to change this or that because of "focus groups"
The novel is exclusively available on Amazon, has gotten, so far, great reviews, and I can't believe I am now writing for an audience, that is slowly growing.
Aside from the author page here, I maintain a facebook page which receives most of my attention, for now.

AND
The Struggle: Mom and the Summertime Blues
which I wrote with my four school-aged daughters. This book is a hilarious read for elementary and middle school kids. The young authors of this book tell about their summer break and their Mom's antics over the summer. They have their idea of what a great summer should be, but Mom's ideas are the complete opposite, and "fun" is not in the equation.
Hi! New here! I've been writing in some respect all of my life, and was lucky enough two years ago to be offered a publishing contract to write a book on dog showing in the UK. That was published under my real name.Having the writing bug I then turned my hand to romantic fiction. Having had to do all the publicity myself for my trad published book, I decided this time to go down the self publishing route. I published my first novel in June, and the follow up should be coming out this month. Don't think I'll be a millionaire any time soon, but I love what I'm doing!
I draw on my life experiences in my writing, of which there have been many, some good, some bad, and some just bizarre. I mean, how many people have had a nun drive into their car, and then a couple of decades later, a police woman did the same thing! I have to wonder what's next....

My Name is Clyde Dee:
Thank you Vincent for this opportunity.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Oakland CA who devotes his free time to writing. I write to help create a culture for other people like me who have had their life severely impacted by stigma and discrimination because their experience sounds foreign to mainstream observers.
My first book is a memoir detailing events that led me from being an effective community builder who was fighting for justice for his clients to an incarcerated inmate on a backward of a state hospital for three months. The majority of the book is about my recovery. I thought the mafia was following me and yet the only job I could find was working at an upscale Italian Deli. Was I really in the belly of the beast?
My current effort is more of a technical book about how to help people when they are in the throes of a "psychosis' episode. In the process I try to redefine what psychosis is in order to highlight solutions and techniques that can be helpful. I am determined to write an anti-academic book that does not cite references, but that utilizes live experiences I've had running groups and working with individuals in creative ways. I want to illustrate how going down the rabbit-hole with a road map is what is missing in the field.
I don't like reading very much to be honest, but official reviewers have said my memoir is impressively well written and all given me five star reviews. I had a book deal but decided to break the contract to preserve the reality of my experience. A central theme in my work is race and the publisher tried to erase that, so I am self-published at this point.
Thank Vincent for your efforts.
Sincerely,
Clyde Dee
Hello, everyone, my name is Dean Robertson. I have been a pretty inactive member of this group for nearly a year, during which time I have acquired an unexpected grandson (first and only), marketed my book, and for the past 4-5 months, struggled with health problems. But I'm excited about being back. I am an author, a voracious reader (always juggling the pile of New Yorkers and whatever books I have stacked to read), a retired English teacher, an amateur Bible scholar (taught Bible as Literature for 30 years), the mother of a 45-year-old son, a 43-year-old daughter in law, and their 15 month old son. As soon as my website gets rebuilt, I'll return to being an enthusiastic and weekly blogger (I do free, elaborate, personal book reviews on that blog), and--I hope--the author of books to come.

Hi , I'm Paul an Anglo-Swiss living high up in the Bernese Alps. When not outside enjoying the great countryside, I spend a lot of time reading and, increasingly, writing. I have just published my first book 'Codename Lazarus: The Spy Who Came Back From The Dead,' which is set in 1938-40 and adapted from a little known, true story. I have written one self-help spiritual memoir for people going through change ,"A Dream is a Wish the Heart Makes, or if at first you don't succeed change the rules".
My second book, "Einstein's Compass: a Novel of What If?" is a sci-fi thriller. What if Albert Einstein had a supernatural compass that put him in touch with spiritual beings who assisted him in his miracle theory? The book is in production due to be released on Albert's birthday in 2017.
