The Shed Hi, I'm an avid reader and will read just about anything, but do struggle with shifter romance, can't get my head round it!
Anything important? Well depends......I'm a blind reader, as in I have little or no sight, but thanks to modern technology I can, as you see read and write on pages. I've got multiple sclerosis which is responsible for bringing me to goodreads! I was medically retired back in 2007 and live with my daughter and 2 beautiful grandsons. I watch/listen to very little TV as I can't cope with audio description, which brings me to the much better world of books, as they are written not to need your eyes, I don't pay to use audible....sorry authors and inventors as its way to expensive. I do however get free access to my local library audio books plus talking books library which come on USB stick. Plus my kindle and computer I use accessibility functions that make them read to me. I love the bones of authors who write good descriptive books, as it swallows me whole. I do very little most days, thanks to MS but that's ok, it gives me so much time to read, last year I beat an all time high of 774 books I think! Anyone from the goodreads people need to add some accessibility stuff in as you can't read pictures, although my daughter is good at explaining them to me. I love BETA and ARC reading, especially if it's for a new author, and as I listen to books I can pick up lots of grammar and spelling errors and yes shock horror those well published authors have spelling errors too! So recommend me books, whether you are a reader or author, but I don't bother with covers, but my daughter will see book covers while we are out and about and take note of author and title which I will read the synopsis on when I get home to see if I think it's my kinda book. So hi everyone on goodreads, and say hi back, don't worry about offending me by asking me to 'see' something, or as I'm in a wheelchair too.......take a chair cause I'm only human, with a weird condition! Welcome to my world, one day turn on your accessibility function, close your eyes, sit back and enjoy the words of a good book......oh yea I do Twitter and Facebook too, and even Instagram! Love, laugh, live

Mary Hogan | 122 comments Hi All:

I may have introduced myself before (menopausal brain drain) but I'm back on Goodreads after a year's hiatus to finish my latest novel. Yes, I DO realize that most writers can juggle blogging and chatting and posting with writing. Sadly, I am not one of them. When I'm working on a book, I become obsessed. Possessed! It's not pretty.

But I have missed my community of readers. If you'll have me back, here I am.

Professionally: I've published seven young adult novels, one mainstream bestseller (TWO SISTERS) and an upcoming historical novel called THE WOMAN IN THE PHOTO (out this summer).

Personally: I live in NYC with my actor hubby and our dog, Lucy, who isn't that into us. Sigh. See video proof on my profile page.

Now that the final copyedit is done, I'm looking forward to spending some time on my favorite website. (Okay, admittedly, I also troll Trulia to tour apartments. The curse of being a New Yorker.)

Nice to meet everyone. Thank you for all your support over the years!

Best,

Mary Buras-Conway (maryeconway) | 176 comments Hi everyone, and welcome Karen, Michael, Evan, Bill, and Mary.
I wanted to tell everyone that one of the winners of my goodreads giveaway gave a review on my book, A Temptation. The reason I wanted to let y'all know is because it shows that the giveaways are a good idea. In no way is it required for a winner to do this and I appreciate that she did.
(My book is under the name Mary E. Buras-Conway)
Thanks,
Mary E. Conway

message 11562: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Miller (partmanpartmonkey) | 1 comments My name is Tyler Miller. I am the author of The Other Side of the Door: Dark Stories and Stranger Calls: Dark Tales.

I also maintain a regular blog, The Black Cat Moan, where I write mostly about books, movies, television. It's a mixed bag covering my various interests, ranging from Stephen King to Agatha Christie to science fiction to John Irving. Often I try to write about something current, such as an analysis of Amazon's adaptation of The Man in the High Castle.

From early on I was drawn to what Springsteen calls the darkness on the edge of town. I was a happy kid, but in my reading I preferred the spooky, dimly-lit byways. My own journey began with Roald Dahl, Christopher Pike, RL Stine, shifting over time to Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Shirley Jackson and the like. There really are too many great writers to mention.

My tastes in fiction are rather broad, and a bit eclectic. While I love the dark fantastic, I read heaps of crime novels and thrillers (John Sandord, Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald). I love mainstream literature, especially comic writers like John Irving and Don Robertson. I enjoy the classics, although my true loves there tend to be adventurous genre novels, the works of H. Rider Haggard, Arthur Conan Doyle and HG Wells.

I started writing at a very young age. Somewhere around five years old. I've been writing ever since. It is, hands down, the only thing I've ever truly wanted to do with my life.

I am pleased to be a member of this group, among fellow wordsmiths and lovers of literature.

I'm like you. I read everything, but my favorite genre is fantasy/paranormal.
Good luck to you.

Maggie Way (maggieway) | 3 comments Hi Everyone!

First and foremost I'm a romance lover - I read and write romance, with elements of erotica.

I can't stand anything cliche, expected HEAs, or when the two leads get it on in the second chapter.

Currently I'm reading Priest by Sierra Simone - a hot story about unforbidden sex but now it's unravelled to become a Fifty Shades type story.

You can check out my website to read the stuff I've come up with http://maggiewayauthor.com/excerpts

I'll self publish a series later this year, but in the meantime it's out with the multiple voices in my head and putting it on paper :)

Looking forward to connecting with you all.

Also if this is the genre you like, please read my book, A Temptation, and tell me what you think. Thanks.

Ekata Niraula | 1 comments Hello, I am Ekata Niraula, 21 from Nepal. I love reading, especially if I am in vacation and I try to write. Sometimes when I finish a book, I have trouble letting them go, that world. And so I imagine a new scenario within the world and write them. But I have never finished anything of that sort. I try to write something original and I never end them. I am hopeless at that. But I read and love to do so. Also I like to write poems, and I have written some. Although I have not much idea about poetry. My poems are just jumbled words erupting from my emotions.

Doug Oudin | 169 comments Hi all. I'm Doug Oudin, a former harbormaster from Catalina Island. I've written two books, both on Amazon. I love the ocean, adore women, relish good food, cherish my wife and sons, enjoy playing volleyball and softball, fish religiously, grow vegetables, have a big bushy mustache that I've never shaved, and live everyday as I did the last; with a smile on my face and a feeling of happiness in my heart and soul. You can Google me if you're intrigued.

Sevda Khatamian | 9 comments Hi everyone!
My name is Sevda Khatamian. I am from Iran, but currently I am placed in Istanbul, Turkey. I studied graphic design and I have some experiences on films and animations. I have always loved writing. I learned how to write scripts and screenplays after I graduated from high school.
I have recently published my first book, which I am pretty excited about, hoping it would be a good start for me to reach higher levels. I want to be an artist, so that's the final destination for now.
Unfortunately, my personal website is still under construction and I am still putting my files together. But... please feel free to share your work with me and take a look at my book. I would love to be in touch!

I love this subject because it involves clearing your head and finding peace of mind, and I've been studying it for over 12 years. I read a lot about the subject, too.

I love to read, so send me any of your suggestions for self-help, spirituality, Buddhism, suspense, comedy, thrillers and history--just some of my favorites to read! Let me know what you love so I can share some good reads. ;)

Duncan Howard | 40 comments Well, this feels like the first day at a new school!!! Hi everyone, my name is Duncan Howard and I am the author of Flintstaff and Cramp: the Curious case of the Case.
I was wondering what genre I should put it in, as it is a comedy mash-up of Demon-fighting Victorians and contemporary teenagers discovering the word they live in is not quite what it seems. Flintstaff and Cramp was a bestseller in the YouWriteOn website and was selected by Random House for a full review. The Eve White agency have also shown some interest.
However, I would love people to give it a read and a review if they have the time. You would not regret it and it should give you a chuckle or two!!
But I'm not sure what genre to place it in..... Steam Punk? YA? Comedy? Adventure? Does anyone else have this problem when it comes to categorizing your book??

hope you all have a great day!

If I write something that could count for multiple genres, I put it under whatever fits more of it. Most places allow you to list two genre catagories, so pick the genre - or two genres - that make most sense, and go with those, making sure to put it in the right age group, of course.

The easiest way to figure out the age group it's aimed at is by the age of the main character (bearing in mind that children and teenagers often prefer to read books about characters a year or so older than they are themselves... Not always, but quite often; especially with younger readers).

As for the genre... Check out a couple of books from each of the genres you think your book might fit in to, and see which it most closely resembles in regards to type of content.

Hope that helps.

I will be releasing my debut novel, A Cry Among Men - The Novel, this summer. The book started as an award winning screenplay, but the suits in Hollywood have viewed it as too controversial. LMBO because it is highly controversial and it is going to make an awesome INDEPENDENT film...
