Thank you.
I don't blame him... I'd have done so too. Unfortunately, in my case surgery won't restore my vision, since most of the damage was done before I was born, and it cost me both eyes. So, until they perfect the bionic eye, nothing can be done in my case. I'm glad that wasn't the case for your brother though.
Hey, I'm a writer/reader. I have just self-published my first novel on Amazon.com. It is the first of a series, the other two will be coming out in the next couple months. I'm looking for feedback and would like to see what people think of my book. It will be a FREE download on Amazon until this coming Tuesday. So, if you'd like to read it, get it for free, that way you won't be charged. I'd love to see what people think of it, so I hope people will read it, if it's fantasy that they're into. Thank you, for reading this post.

Greetings, I am Cappy half of the team Cappy and Pegody. We just found goodreads and look forwards to spending time here. We wrote our first book this year and are working on a second one. This is the first book : Space Freighter First Dock: Neo-Eden|26074901] Give it a read or go to smashwords and down load the free sample and let us know what you think. In the mean time we will continue perusing the site and updating or library list. We are nook readers is there any way to list our nook books here or would I have to search them individually?
Hi Cappy, and congratulations! I have to put in my two cents about e-books. I do not have a problem with them, I have read a lot of books that a could only get through that medium. My book is being sold in e-books, and hard copy.My point I'm trying to make is that even though the technology is
wonderful, I purchase most of my books as hardcopy. The reason being is that I am afraid one day the printed pages of books will disappear. I couldn't bear the thought of all the wonderful, great literature only appearing electronically. As a result I collect the old classics, and all of the great fiction and non-fiction that I read today I keep all of the authors works that I love. My office is lined with book shelf's and I am now opening up the closet in there to have built in book shelf's put in.
It might be cluttered, but the clutter I can pick up and look at when ever. One day my grandchildren, great grandchildren, so on and so on, can have them. They can start a library or what have you. I will be happy to know that I kept this little part alive.
Thanks for listening.

I'm the author of the Aona dark fantasy books and YA sci-fi / fantasy adventure Summer's Dark Waters... more details about all the books on my profile if they're your kind of thing. :) When I'm not writing I'm reading... and if I'm not reading I'm sleeping. Or eating. And that's about it...

Thanks for the welcome Mary. I worked on a small boat for years and it was a real pain to drag a big bag of books to work when I shipped out for a month or more. So for me ebooks were a God send. My nook has several hundred books on it and thanks to age I am now enjoying rereading some of them. When we wrote our ebook we wanted to break the mold slightly. Tired of reading books where you are dropped right into the middle of some space battle and many die before you know whats going on or who's side you were in we write a book where readers could get to know the characters and laugh or moan along with them. We felt certain that had we sent this to a publisher they would have edited out half of our story. So we self published to tell our story. Giving life meaning.https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...
Feel free to down load the sample and you will see what I am saying. We want readers to know the characters BEFORE the battle.
Hi Vincent et al.,I am P.I. Barrington and I've run away from writing pretty much all of my adult life. Unfortunately, it chased me down and I started as a newspaper reporter... and now I have seven books via two and a half publishers and am working on number 8.
Number 8 is actually The Brede Chronicles Book Two for First Realm Publishing; Book One is available on amazon, B&N, Smashwords, etc. However, anyone who will review it can contact me (pibarrington@yahoo.com) for an e-book. (All my print copies are packed away in another state)
Here's a short blurb from Book One:
Half-human Alekzander Brede is a law unto himself…or so he thinks. Elektra Tate, the street orphan who loves him has other ideas.
Opening paragraph from Book Two:
“Elektra!” Brede screamed chasing her at full run. People he couldn’t toss out of his way dived out of it on their own. “Elektra!” Regardless his speed she stayed at the edge of his sight, the occasional bob of her blonde hair between the turbans and black hair of most of the residents of New Cairo, Egypt, Earth. The faster he ran the less he could keep up with her; his steps pounded the ground and yet he never came nearer. She stopped, glanced back at him once and then disappeared into the souk leaving Brede doubled over, sucking in breath. At length, he straightened and leaned back against an ancient wall, eyes closed shaking his head. He wanted it to be a dream. It had to be a dream. At least, in dreams he could wake up; set his mind on the day and not some ridiculous waste of time chasing someone who was dead.
Hi, Mary! You can contact me at pibarrington@yahoo.com to talk & ask about indie publishers!Mary wrote: "Dear Stephanie and P.I.,
Fantasy is my favorite genre. Besides working on the last book of my Discover Trilogy, I am working on a fantasy series.

Mary & Cappy,eBooks have opened up a lot more reading possibilities for me, because I'm blind so can't read print books. Some print books are produced in braille, but... Well... For one thing many aren't. For another thing, braille books take up a LOT of space. Anyway, my point is that eBooks are a good thing. However, having said that, I think it's important to allow people the choice. So I've personally made my books available as both eBooks and paperbacks, and I know there are many others who make a point of doing the same thing.

Do you have a brail ereader? or is there a program that reads text for you.? Brail has always amazed me. Victoria,Please don't misunderstand me. I think the technology that we now have is wonderful and in no way am I putting it down. I, as I said do read e-books.
It is just that I don't want to wake up one day to bookstores and library's being a thing of the past. Even newspapers and magazines. I am not saying, believe me, that I don't want there to be e-books are anything else the electronical genius's come up with.
Cappy, I am very happy that you had your nook to bring with you. I would hate to imagine that I couldn't read for any length of time.
Thanks,
Mary E. Conway
I fully understand Mary and am not against print and do still read paper books. I was just pointing out the advantage of an ereader for me. We do plan to publish on paper we just haven't figured out how we want to do it yet.
Hi, I have been around only for few months. If any of you struggling to get around on Goodreads, buy Goodreads for Authors
Feel free to add me, just mention the group.

After years of handling big ropes and working on a boat my fingers can not feel anything that precise."There are braille computers, and they're making a Kindle style braille eReader, but those aren't what I have. I couldn't afford them... The price tags are ridiculous! I can read braille though, and do have an old Perkins brailler, which I've had since I was in school... It's a red one that was brought out as a special edition when they had coloured ones for a while.
It's text to speach software I use.
On my computer I have something called "JAWS" (which stands for "Java Access With Speach" I believe). It tells me what's on the screen, and - for the most part - I manage to do everything I need to on the computer with just JAWS' help. Sometimes though, things are too graphic based, and I'll have to get my hubby to come and help me. It's hubby who helps me when dealing with my cover artists too, since he acts as my eyes for that kind of thing.
Sometimes I'll read eBooks on my computer (if they're pdfs). But, for the most part, I use a Kindle for eBooks. Some Kindles have text to speach software built in, and most eBooks are text to speach accessable. The Kindle's text to speach software isn't all that fantastic, and using it means I get at most half the amount of time between a fully charged batteryand a dead one as I should. But it's better than nothing, and I'm just glad to have access to all those books... Especially since I read a lot, and eBooks are cheap enough that I can actually afford to have new books to read all the time. It just means I have to not only check the details of what features a Kindle has very carefully if I need a new one, but also need to check each and every eBook I want before I buy it, just to make absolutely certain it does have text to speach enabled. The change to touch screen was extremely frustrating at first - and sometimes still is - but I'm getting better at dealing with it.
I hope that answers your questions. But, if it doesn't - or if you find you have more - feel free to ask. :)

That's fair. I don't want to see book shops and libraries being a thing of the past either.

Hi, Victoria! It's very impressive how you manage to handle everything.
I will never complain about social media world being complicated and time consuming, again. LOL
I'm super excited for you for the new Kindle. I saw it last week, it's a beauty.
Take care.

Hello Everyone, My name is Lauren and my Dad and I just wrote our first book together it was just released on January 1st, 2016. It is called Elemental Kingdoms:Darkness Descends. I had been working on the plot and characters for several years, then my Dad told me that I should write a book so he helped me to bring this book to life. It is a book about powerful teenagers with elemental abilities that have to go on a grand adventure full of wonder and excitement along the way they have many challenges. We wrote this book because I could not find very many books that there the type of book that I wanted to read and I thought that my peers would like to read a story like this. This is a big adventure for my Dad and I with a lot of work still ahead since this is only the first book in the series. My Dad and I look forward to hearing from other indie authors.
Anna wrote: "Pleased to meet you, Paul. I always wondered how one gets a book to take the step to movie. Is it possible to do other than through a major publisher?" Hi Anna, Like you I am new to this group. Years ago I read a fantastic book about screen writing. If I can find it (I own thousands of books ... no joke) I will post it on my shelf and review it for people like you, so just check my author page later and one day it will miraculously appear. It is a must read for any author wanting to do book trailers or screen writing (which in my opinion is easier than writing a novel). I suggest you read up on 3 act structures (I actually write most of my books that way ... no chapters ... just 3 acts) and plenty of other authors do this such as Suzanne Collins - Hunger Games.
If you are uncomfortable with that style (and twitch at the words, clear, concise & creative), screenwriting may not be your forte. Initially I wrote Battered as a screenplay. Later I wrote the first person present tense novel.
The pros are it carries readers through the story in a now sort of way but the problem with that is the view point is limited to what the protagonist sees and hears ... so you have to be creative but maintain plots turning points and sub-plots etc.
If you are struggling with concise (or twitch at the thought of ripping pages out of a book) watch the movie Castaway, starring Tom Hanks and Wilson (a volleyball). Not a ton of dialogue. The back story/flashbacks are sparse. Watch the camera angles and Google over the shoulder, close up etc.
Here's why you may want to do that ... not to write the screenplay but to influence a professional screenwriter. If you write a book like Twilight and it goes viral ... knowing a few principals of screen writing can make the world of difference to someone who loves the book ... loving the movie too.

I just wish they wouldn't make the fantastic technology that's best for people like me so expensive...
Hi everyone!Sorry it took me this long to write a post about being a part of this group.
I absolutely love reading and I do hope to be able to write my own short stories / novels in the near future. To be more specific, I do hope to write stories that can be staged in the theatre.
As to what kind of books I read, my top choice would be fiction novels with realistic plots and premises and that tackle universal themes of humanity with depth.
I know it sounds so general but in my hope of finding other novels to read, some of my top favorite novels are The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick, Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, and One Day by David Nicholls.
Suggestions are very much welcome.
Sincerely,
Cherry Pie :)
Thanks Victoria, Lenita, and Cathy! :)Kindly let me know your favorite books or if you guys can suggest books that I can read given my top favorite books indicated below.
The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick
Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen
One Day by David Nicholls
Thanks!
Cherry :)
