G.W. Eccles (gweccles) | 15 comments G.W. Eccles

Hi, I'm George Eccles, and Peach Publishing have just released the second in my Leksin thriller series Corruption of Power

I lived for many years in Moscow and Central Asia, travelling extensively throughout Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan - often to places with restricted access to foreigners - and these form the settings of my thrillers.

During this period, I advised a number of real-life oligarchs how best to take advantage of the opportunities that became available as regulation crumbled and government became increasingly corrupt. Not surprisingly, therefore, while my novels are fiction, many of the anecdotes and scenes are inspired by actual events.

I now live with my wife - and a cat called Lenin and a bulldog puppy called Boris - in a hilltop village in the South of France.

My website gives more info: http://www.gweccles.com

Dean Robertson (agingwriter) | 8 comments I am horrified to see that I introduced myself in this group two months ago, on 10 October!! Where have I been? Mostly on the road touring my book around in Michigan, Texas, and Kentucky--with some success, thank goodness. Is there an Office Hours scheduled for today at noon? Is this the group that has those? I find that I am exhausted from traveling and generally overwhelmed by too many places to be online. It's getting clearer that I need to pick a couple and stay focused. I'm afraid us 70 year old first time authors/first time grandmothers burn out very very fast. So. If somebody reading this can tell me about the noon gathering, thanks. And if anyone is willing to read my book and review it, I am delighted to reciprocate. Looking for Lydia; Looking for God

message 11358: by Dean (new)

Dean Robertson (agingwriter) | 8 comments Back again to also realize that my introduction in October sure didn't say much. I am, as I just wrote, a nearly 70 year old retired English teacher who got up one morning in March of 2014 and started writing some notes about a Bible study I was leading at an assisted living facility. I wanted to write about the transformations I was seeing in the women who participated in this group. For seven months I wrote almost non-stop. I ate and slept very little. Friends and family worried. At the end of seven months, during which I got sucked into researching a local family, made a lot of new and unlikely friends, and generally was obsessed, I had something that I suddenly recognized as book-like :-) I wrote letters and submitted the manuscript without much luck. Then I found not just a publisher but the ideal publisher for this book. And here we are. At the moment I am blogging every week on my website, reviewing books for a couple of book clubs, and trying hard to sell Looking for Lydia. I'm ready to get back to writing something long, something book-like. I have never ever thought of myself as a writer, yet I can't seem to stop writing. I keep my fingers crossed that there's another book in me.

George R. (goodreadscomgeorgehopkins) | 13 comments Hi! I'm George Hopkins. I just published my fifth mystery/thriller/suspense novel called "Unholy Retribution." In it, someone is killing apparently innocent Muslims on Staten Island. All the clues point to Jesuit priest Jack Bennis, a former Black Ops lieutenant. But if he isn’t the cold-blooded murderer, then who is? And why do all the clues point to Fr. Bennis? When the priest’s brother, Detective Tom Cavanaugh tries to help, the ramifications of Cavanaugh’s past affair with the lead detective’s sister create more problems for both of them. The mutual attraction of a nurse and the priest add to Fr. Bennis’ predicament. As both brothers struggle to find the killer, the stakes rise and they find themselves fighting community pressure and avoiding arrest from local police, the FBI, Homeland Security, and Interpol.
I retired as a high school assistant principal and this is one of four other mystery/thrillers involving the brotherhood team of the priest and the detective. The other novels are "Blood Brothers," "Collateral Consequences," "Letters from the Dead," and "Random Acts of Malice." "Unholy Retribution" is controversial, topical, thoughtful, and may even frighten you. My website is: www.george-hopkins.com. All the books are available on Amazon.

Assaph Mehr | 4 comments Hi All,

I'm a reader (and now a writer) of... erm, hard-to-classify genre mash-ups :)
My debut novel is a fantasy murder mystery, with an historical slant and a dash of horror (told in a first-person view like good old hardboiled detectives). Fun!

I also enjoy reading (duh), mostly historical fiction, fantasy and mysteries. Anything, as long as it's well written.

Nice to meet you all!

You're weak. You know that though. You tell yourself this all day long every day every waking moment. Forever. You always tell yourself this you are always constantly telling yourself you are weak. You are. You know why you're weak, the reason you are weak is because you're insane but not because you are insane are you weak the reason you are weak is because you choose not to show that you are crazy. You must embrace who you are to become what you are meant to be. Look at that I'm starting to look like a motivational speaker and trust me that's not what I'm trying to be. I'm not here for you. I'm here for my own selfish greed. You feed me and I feed you. This IS the relationship we will have nothing more. I expect nothing but you to feed me and you will expect nothing from me except to feed you. Never ask me for anything. I have no interest in what you have. The only thing I am interested in is the sole fact that you are reading the words that I write. You are a vessel and another click. Nothing more. Never forget this. You are mine. - See more at: http://www.averagerambling.com/blog#s...

Kevin Hatt | 1 comments Hello to everyone,
I'm Kev, and author of the Haszard Narratives, of which five have been released, all self-bub'. Since then, I've been taken on by Koehler Books, and we're set to release the sixth in the series (No Reason For insanity) in February, and the seventh (Full Circle) later in the year. They're black comedy/crime/mysteries, providing intrigue, excitement and a few laughs along the way. They've been described as unique, and the first book got the words "an exceptional novel" from Kirkus Reviews, along with an okay review for the second. The others have yet to go to them (money).
As for me, I'm what I like to call a 40-11-year-old anaesthetic and recovery practitioner, plus I've worked in the art world as well. The books reflect this.
Vincent - are we allowed to offer books to folk?
In addition to everything else, I'm a Winchester (UK) born cricket loving chap, who also likes cooking and great music.

It was. It manifested itself by soldiers talking constantly about homesickness. It is a sure bet that most if not all were plagued by a terrible depth of uni-polar depression. Soldiers suffering from "nostalgia" in that era were generally treated as outcasts. They had to suffer in an even gloomier silence than veterans of war do now. They were usually just sent back out on the firing line. With none of the modern medications nor any type of available therapy a that time they saw virtually no recovery. It was another of the many terrible tragedies of that most gruesome war.

Tricia-Anne Y. Morris (triciaanneymorris) | 2 comments Hi Everyone ,

I am Tricia-Anne Y. Morris, author of From I Do to I Don't: Overcoming the Wounds of a Bad Relationship .

From I Do to I Don't tells my story. It has two parts. The first highlights my personal experience in an abusive relationship while the second describes the strategies I used to heal from those relationship wounds. It's written so others will have a tool they can use to evaluate the quality of their relationship, through the healing process and track their progress as they heal. Also included are surveys, prayers and poems to help with that process. Throughout the book are red flags I use to underscore certain scenarios - those situations/behaviors we tend to think are normal but really are not. There are tips on how to deal with those as well.

I wrote this book to help others. Of course writing it was therapeutic. I wrote it primarily for women but I've had men, young persons and couples say it has helped them as well.

I'm self-published. It's available on Amazon but isn't yet in stores. I've been trying to push it on social media but that's slow. In the meantime I'm trying to sponsors for my book tour which I hope to start early next year.

It's early days yet. It was only published on Nov 4, 2015. Looking forward to great things in the coming month.

All the best to you all
Tricia-Anne

George R. (goodreadscomgeorgehopkins) | 13 comments I know I'm getting old. I'm 74 and don't remember if I introduced myself before. I think I did, but if I didn't here is a little more about me. My 5th mystery/thriller, UNHOLY RETRIBUTION, is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle versions. It's about a priest accused of killing innocent Muslims on Staten Island. I'm a retired teacher of English, former sergeant in the Marine Corps, the father of four and the grandfather of ten. UNHOLY RETRIBUTION addresses from controversial, topical, and even scary situation. I would greatly appreciate anyone's opinion about it. Thanks.

They are 4 short stories for middle graders and young adults. The goal of the book is to encourage everyone to replant the original l tress of this Area in their houses again.
Even though my all writings are in Arabic including 4 short novels still being written, I'm working now in my first English story for children from 8-10 years old about the sea heritage in the Arabian Peninsula too.
I write about this topic a lot because its exciting, full of history and adventures and manners and ethics. This history of my ancestors worth to be written about and spread around the world.

My first novel, CLOSER TO THE SUN, is 5% finished...and that's the first draft, so probably closer to .5%. It's YA magical realism, although when you get down to it it's neither magical, realistic, nor anything to do with young adults. I have compared it to 'a hypothetical collaboration between John Green and Allen Ginsberg'. I'm strangely proud of it.

Patricia Jackson | 16 comments Hi everyone. I'm Patricia M Jackson.

I just recently published my debut College Romance Henrietta: Book #1 in the House of Donato Series. It's set in Marquette, Michigan and Northern Iowa. I was inspired to write it by the story of someone I found doing genealogy research. I thought her amazing life deserved to be remembered, so I wove a fiction romance story around the real life story. One thing led to another and now I'm one book down on a trilogy.

I'm perplexed, dumbfounded and generally astounded at the whole world of Indie publishing and the 9,001 things one really should do to have any success at this. (Egads, I've become a neurotic mess!) I'm also fairly new to Goodreads, so hoping to find friends among the masses.

This seems like a pretty awesome group. Please feel free to visit my webpage at: www.patriciamjackson.com
