Welcome Brother Dave and looking forward to connecting with you.

Hi All:
Please allow me to REintroduce myself. I've been burrowed in my office for past year writing an historical novel called THE WOMAN IN THE PHOTO (pub: Summer 2016, William Morrow). Love, love, love the historical genre. Looking forward to lively debates when that book comes out. Did I get the corsets right? Gulp.
In the meantime, my current novel TWO SISTERS is the story of a family full of secrets. It's in the works to be made into a movie. Any casting ideas???
Finally, my first seven novels were Young Adult. (THE SERIOUS KISS, PERFECT GIRL, PRETTY FACE, and the SUSANNA Series.) Over the past several years, I've "grown-up" in fiction, from teens to women in the 19th century. After my long writing absence, I'm happy to be back in Goodreads where all the smart people live!
Looking forward to many fun discussions about EVERYTHING!!!
All the best,
Mary Hogan
Hello all,I'm a new author, and new to the group.
As a reader I am a big fan of Indie crime and mystery, but I also enjoy literary fiction and YA. Look forward to chatting with you about all of that.
My debut novel, "Bad Citizen Corporation," is a mystery that's out this month from Rare Bird Books. I have a novella, "Crosswise," coming out on Down & Out Books next March.

Hello Vincent and thank you for starting this platform. I just recently joined the Goodreads family and am looking forward to discovering it's bustling book community! My name is Ivan Sivec and I am a writer, poet and publicist from Slovenia, Europe.
People say I am ‘a man with a hundred stories’ and I’ve been sharing them with my audience, both young and mature, for over four decades now. Quick brag: I’m listed under the top five Slovenian bestselling authors.
In my career I published 130 books in different fiction and non-fiction genres. My particular interest goes to psychological novels on issues teenagers face today, especially topics like teenage suicide, drug addiction, adoption, AIDS... I share true stories to let the young reader know they’re not alone.
This year I’ve actually come out with my first English psychological young adult novel called ''The X Factor: Confession of a Naïve Model.'' The X Factor: Confessions of a Naive Fashion Model
I invite all Goodreads readers and authors to visit my Goodreads or Facebook page to find out more about me. Shoot me a question, I'll be more than happy to answer!

Hello, I've just joined the group and it seems a friendly place to be.I have written several non-fiction books and am working on the next two. I am also an editor and proofreader and have helped to publish two other authors' books, which was just as exciting as publishing my own.
My co-author (and husband) Steven Sonsino has made a series of three free videos on writing your own book. If you'd like to take a look at http://www.keepcalmandwriteyourbook.com, please let me know what you think.

Welcome new members! Feel free to send me a friend request if you're still getting the hang of the site or if you just want to say hello. :)
Hey guys, I'm Kavya and I love to read. I am thinking about writing my own book, but this is my first time writing my own novel. Is there any advice you can give me?
Welcome Kavya! One piece of advice about writing is that sometimes you have to make yourself write; you don't always have to feel like it. In this way there is not really any such thing as "writer's block."
Welcome to the group, Kavya!Lenita just gave you some very good advice, but I'll add something to it... When writing the first draft, just worry about getting the story written; don't worry too much about how well-written it is at that stage. Once the first draft is done, then you can go back and tidy it up. But if you worry too much about polishing your work as you write, you'll get so caught up in that part of it you'll not get much actual writing done.

I also congratulate you on your more than successful career! Plus seven children on top of your pets! :)
Hi I am Korina Layne. I am from Oklahoma. I love writing, haven't finished anything YET, but I plan to. I am writing a book right now that so far has 160 pages typed, but I carry a notebook with me that has about double that. I love reading almost anything except westerns and those overly dramatic love stories. I love Young Adult Literature like Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, Percy Jackson, but I also love Tolkien, Poe and Doyle. I am a college student who is majoring in English. I used to work in a library. I am a total nerd!! I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, Once Upon A Time and Psych. I am not married, heck not even dating, no kids, but I love my family. Hoping to find some great books to obsess about
Heya everyone,Sharon Jean Coleman here. Learning the ropes on Goodreads.
I read as fast as I can, because there's so much to read!
Turn ons: A good memoir, something open and honest that makes me feel. I'm not averse to role playing and fantasy, and some historical re-enactment is great. I have a serious side too, devouring marketing, business and writing books... and because I'm a big of a fixer-upper -aren't we all- I love a good self-help book.
Turn-offs: Anything overly sappy sweet romance, I tend to veer away from the mainstream. 50 shades of gray- haven't read it, Nora Roberts-one, once, never again. Zombie books and blood and gore will have me yawning. The only Steven King I've ever read was his book on writing. Wonderful. Maybe I'll try his horror. But I tend to find horror, well, horrible.
Now that we know each other well enough to date... please know I'm happily married going on 15 years (wow has it been that long?) and, oh- I like to write too.
Hi everyone! I'm Tia, and I'm former magazine editor turned novelist. I love writing about smart, witty women (or teens) going through transformative personal journeys -- and getting lost in deliciously sexy love stories along the way. I've published novels, including THE ACCIDENTAL DIVA and the IT CHICKS series, and I co-wrote Iman's THE BEAUTY OF COLOR. My newest adult novel, THE PERFECT FIND, pubs in April 2016. So excited to meet other GoodReaders! For more about my books, visit my site: http://www.shakeyourbeauty.com/tias-b...
Hello fellow Goodreaders,I'm from London, England and I'm new here. I'm a former British detective with 20 years in the Metropolitan Police & Scotland Yard.
I like page-turning true-to-life stories that I can solve myself. So much police & detective fiction fails to stand up to scrutiny, that ultimately I was persuaded by friends to write a novel based around an incredible, thrilling and heartbreaking real major police investigation. England's 9/11.
'The Theseus Paradox' confronts the dark, real-life motives behind crime & terror from a insider police point of view. 'I can't tell you the truth, but I can tell you a story. This is what happened during London’s summer of terror...'

Hi David. I'm a big fan of memoir myself. And I can't help but think you'd make an incredible resource for so many writers here, including me... mind if I pick your brain sometime when I bump up against not-so-realistic crime scene problems? Add me as a friend if you are willing! :)
Hi I'm John, newbie independent writer and I recently published my first crime thriller novel. Currently working on a post-apocalyptic trilogy of books. Glad to be here!

I'm seconding this. Write "crappy" first drafts.
Do not sensor. Don't even worry about spelling or punctuation.
Write "hot" -as in fast and furious.
And... read...and read. Read good books.
And read books on craft. I was gonna list a bunch here, but I'm falling asleep... so you can check out my "on writing" bookshelf to see some of the ones I've read (or at least skimmed) and found useful.
And then write.
Oh, and steal like an artist!
And... write for the joy of it. Do not ask your writing to earn a living for you. Your muse will scoff and go sulk in a corner! ;)
Nice to meet you, Sharon. I've added you as a friend. Please feel free to ask me any police and crime questions and I will do my best to answer. Thanks for the welcome to the group.
