Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hi! I'm Steven Lyle Jordan, author of a number of SF novels being self-published at Right Brane ePublications. I started writing back when I was having a hard time finding things I wanted to read! These days, I can find a bit more, but I still spend more time writing than reading.
Hi everyone! My name is Diane Mannone and I'm an adjunct English Professor as well as a writer/editor. We have some amazing new digital editions of Shakespeare and Twain that I'd love to get feedback from this group on. Please take a look at www.gleeditions.com and let me know what you think!
I am a Sci-Fi/Horror writer and blogger in Southern California who reads just about anything I can get my hands on. I also love movies, music, and I am learning to play the guitar. And I am obsessed with surfing news sites.
Hi, I'm Kim, the author of MARKED (Soul Guardians Book 1) an Urban fantasy written for young adults. Here is my blog:

Casey wrote: "Harry, you said you have written two books so far...was just wondering what they were."Sorry it took so long to respond to your post. I work retail at the moment and the weekend of Mother's Day is hectic. My first book is 2 Kingdoms: Anan's Awakening https://www.createspace.com/3431366
My second book, the sequel is 2 Kingdoms: Anan's Ascent and is currently being edited.
I plan on updating the book having learned some very important tips while researching the marketing process and also making the book available in e-book.
Hi, I'm Tyler. I'm the author of PARK AVE (www.parkavethenovel.com), a crime/thriller novel. Thanks to my day job I had to turn down an offer to turn PARK AVE into a screenplay (at least for now). But I'm hoping that readers will enjoy the book and look forward to the second book in the series, which will come out later in 2011. Maybe one day I'll be able to start the screenplay. On my website, Amazon doesn't sell it at $2.99 yet (hopefully by next week!) but Barnes & Noble does (ibooks does as I well I believe).
I'm looking forward to reading books by other authors on Goodreads. I love complex characters, emotional turmoil, and extreme action.
I'm Nellee, I'm 16, and I'm author of Meeting Death (Kensey's Story)http://nelleehorne.blogspot.com/
Hello! I'm Rashaad Bell, first time author. It's a pleasure to find a place like goodreads. Hope all is well. Forgotten Future
Hello and happy to be here. I'm not sure if and where my book series fits in, but thought this was a good place to start. I've created some sports-themed books for kids that include specific text & illustrations for adult fans (and book buyers) as well. More sporting novelty than typical children's literature (comparing it to the wonderful examples I've seen from this group), but they are books just the same. Three books out featuring local teams so far--more national markets hopefully in the future.

I am an indie author who has given myself the 4-5 years of college to make a name for myself in the industry or go to work in business and marketing.
I recently released a novella called The New Days: The First Son. On the surface it is basic zombie survival fiction, but deep down it is more character driven and has more to do with humanity and ethics.
Hello! My name is Judith Marshall and I write women's fiction. My award-winning novel, "Husbands May Come and Go but Friends are Forever," was released in 2009 and was recently optioned for the big screen. Here's a review I received today:Book Review: Husbands May Come and Go, but Friends are Forever, by Judith Marshall
Review by Jennifer Walker
Liz's life seems to be falling apart. She's been laid off (although, maybe she didn't really like that job anyway), her male companion of 20 years, Sam, is moving to New York and wants her to go despite the fact that her whole life is in California (she's too scared to marry him anyway), and then the kicker: her best friend Karen is killed on a lonely mountain road in a motorcycle accident.
Liz and her four remaining close friends--Arlene, Jo, Rosie, and Gidge--pack up in Sam's van and head to Karen's cabin in Lake Tahoe to make funeral arrangements and have a little together time while they make ready to say their final farewell to their friend. Throughout the heart-wrenching week, Liz goes back over and over to the times she has had with these women, scenes that date back over the span of 40 years. Through the experience, she learns a little more than she ever expected about not only her friends, but about herself...and about love.
I review a lot of books, and while I enjoy many of them, it's rare that I come across a book that touches me so deeply as Husbands May Come and Go but Friends are Forever. Not only did I read this 429 page book in three days, something I rarely have the time or desire to do, but I felt myself so enraptured by Liz's world that I couldn't seem to draw myself out of it...and I didn't want to.
This book had me examining my own life, which is an effect few books have on me. Expertly written, perfectly paced, and painfully poignant, this book brought me to tears. It comes as no surprise that it has been optioned for the big screen, and I wish author Judith Marshall the best of luck in seeing that come to fruition, because I will be first in line to see the movie.
Disclosure of material connection: the author provided a free review copy for the purpose of this review.

Hello from New Zealand, Vincent.I'm an avid reader of romance (mainly historical and paranormal). My favourite authors are Anna Cambpell, Nicole Jordon, Emma Wildes, Rebecca Zanetti, and Kresly cole.
BUT I'm now also an author. My debut novel, Invitation to Ruin, through Kensington Brava, was released on 1 March 2011, available at Amazon, Borders, B&N, etc. I'm finding the balance between reader and author very exciting and scary. Reviewers don't hold back on Goodreads.
Hi! I'm Dan Makaon, author of Goodbye Milky Way - An Earth in Jeopardy Adventure. Check out my YouTube book trailer available from the link on my website http://www.danmakaon.com
Dan Makaon--Goodbye Milky Way: An Earth in Jeopardy AdventureHere's a blurb describing my science fiction novel:
The earthquake that triggered the Asian tsunami did more than kill 283,000 people. It caused a shift in the axial tilt of the Earth. An eclectic group of scientists, calling themselves the Star-Slayer Team, calculates that the cause of the quake emanates from the depths of space, threatening all of mankind with extinction.
Assisted by Aieda, a powerful and sophisticated computer, the team has only seven years to save the Earth and the Moon. With Einstein-like intelligence, and even adopting a female persona, Aieda believes her new theory governing gravity and space-time will save humanity. But can she be trusted?
Hello I'm Julian and I am new to Goodreads, I've written all my life, but have just recently published a YA fantasy/Sci fi book.My native tongue is spanish, but don't worry! I had a couple of editors fix my broken english.
Thanks for Starting the group!I have just published Vol.1 of 3, of "The Goddess of Pigland" on the Amazon.com Kindle. My second publication and over 10 years in the making. It is semi-autobiographical, takes place in a fantasy world that I have slowly, carefully and I think creatively constructed over the decades. It was a labor of love, I wrote the novel to escape the feeling of being boxed in by my then career and personal life. Although the themes are mythic and contain gritty violence and mature sexual content in some areas, it is mostly humorous! Writing the novel made me laugh and I still love the story.
I will be reading it live in the virtual world SecondLife.com at RP Nexux, this, and a week from Sunday, May 15 and 22, at 11 AM EST, and intend to do an audiobook version.

Hi, All!I'm an author of YA fantasy. My trilogy was published by Scholastic in three countries and I am now exploring Indie/self-publishing options for the US and Canada.
I also have a blog at http://jodiebrownlee.blogspot.com which I created as a service to fellow writers. The latest post addresses the importance of productivity to a writer's career, and four ways of overcoming writer's block. Previous posts address the importance of a book's 'packaging' (cover, spine, jacket copy, title) and the all important first chapter.
I'm still learning about Indie publishing, developing good writing habits, marketing, and e-publishing. Everything I learn, I'm sharing on my blog.
If you visit my blog, feel free to drop me a line. I always love to hear from you!

Hello, as a new member of this group I’d like to introduce myself and announce my book about Chicago.I have lived in Chicago for over 5 years and, coming from a small Midwestern town, I have realized that many new residents need a little help getting acclimated with the big city. Most people who live in Chicago came from small Midwestern towns like and the Windy City can be a lonely place during your first few months here. So I wrote an ebook is to help people through that by showing them how to get settled in comfortably and how to meet people and find interesting things to do – like getting into the Chicago theater scene and visiting the many Chicago street fests.
New in Town Chicago is an eBook designed to help people moving to Chicago adapt to life in the Windy City. It takes the fres new resident, step by step, through the process of starting a new life - from finding a place to live in the Chicago neighborhoods, to settling in, to getting around on the Chicago CTA, to finding places to go, things to do, and people to meet.
The book is different from other books about moving to Chicago because it has less technical information and more advice on building a new life here.
The PDF version is sold on my blog – New in Town Chicago. The blog contains additional and updated information about moving to Chicago and great tips and advice for new residents as well as people who already live in Chicago. I would love it if anyone could provide any feedback on my blog or participate in the article discussions.
If any reader would like to write to write a review for my book, I would be happy to send you a free copy. Or if there are any authors on here who would like to do a review exchange, we can read and review each other’s eBooks.
Thanks! I look forward to contributing to this group and networking with other authors in this group.
Well I am just a reader, but oh boy what a reader I am! Lol, I have always loved to read, and I read so many different types of books. I will say that my favorite genre of books are "Paranormal Romance". I love time travel,Scottish highlanders, vampires, shape shifters, werewolves, you name it. I am always, and I mean ALWAYS looking for new authors to try. So if this is a place where writers & readers meet...well I'm in! I also like to read writers who have a similar way of writing to Jodi Picoult,Cecilia Ahern. If you want to introduce your book(s) to me, please feel free =)
Total wrote: "So if this is a place where writers & readers meet...well I'm in!"It is indeed! And you sound so enthusiastic we're never going to let you out of the building!

And if you're looking for some fantastic Paranormal authors, may I suggest my publisher, The Wild Rose Press. The authors there are some of the most outstanding in their field (IMHO) : )

Hi everyone! I'm Liz, author of Echo Island. I can't possibly learn all of you immediately from those great past posts, but will work to catch up. I self published and I am enjoying the process so far. I would love to hear others' stories! Is there a monthly book read through this group? It would be a nice forum to discuss our books with other authors and readers.Glad to be here!
Hello! My name is Shane and I have no relation to the five foot nothing cowboy who needed wood blocks tied to his feet to look bigger than the bad guys. I was born in 1982 and showed zero aptitude for math or intelligence in general, although I had an adventurous streak about a mile wide and almost gave my parents a heart attack on multiple occasions. I later graduated with honors with my degree in Physics after pulling a “Good Will Hunting” maneuver, minus the girl. Drawing inspiration from “Forest Gump", I am currently training for the Leadville 100. This is a 100 mile long trail running ultra marathon at an altitude of 12,000 feet. I hope that running myself stupid beyond exhaustion will serve as a midwife to my next novel, since drugs are currently rather expensive. Living in Colorado, I enjoy trail running, sport bike motorcycles, rock climbing, backcountry snowboarding by myself while frolicking in fields of avalanches, Frisbee, backpacking for months at a time and I’m utterly dog deprived. Much of my writing draws from Colorado, adventure, that can-do frontiersman attitude, and physics. When not tempting fate in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, I push my mind by reading, writing, learning more about science, and spellchecking Einstein’s work. I have written two eBooks, “The Terra Conscripts” and “Earun Frontier: Blasted Band”. Sci fi and fantasy respectively. They are available at Amazon.com and at www.shanelandproductions.com. I look forward to feedback and reviews, so feel free to check out sample chapters and leave your comments. The first is about an alien species that drops off all their convicts and most dangerous predators on near future Earth, then leaves. Pretty much makes an Australia out of the entire planet. The other is about a gunblade toting, spell wielding tattooed cowboy, and set in an environment that draws information from the American Revolutionary war and western expansionism. Cowboys, lycanthropes, dragons and more. Check it out!

Hi!I'm a 35 year old YA and chick lit indie author. My first YA urban fantasy book, Raven, is out now (woo hoo!!).
Although I'm British, I grew up in Portugal which continues to be my home with my husband of 13 years. I'm mad about books... particularly ebooks, since I bought mu kindle nearly a month ago. My hubby reckons I should be a Kindle salesperson!
Hi, Everyone. It's great to be part of the group. Carrie Rourke at Focus House Publishing asked me to get involved here at Goodreads, but I didn't realize there were so many subjects I would like :-) I'm a fanatical reader and a veteran, full-time writer. I have a couple of YA novels coming out in the next few months. "Zachary Pill, The Dragon at Station End" is the next. I look forward to meeting a lot of you and welcome any friend invites. If you have a blog you'd like me to follow, please let me know. It might take me a few tries to figure out how to do it, though :-)
Hi and welcome to all of the above! The human mind is an amazing thing isn't it?! So many authors, but with such diverse plots and types of books. Fantastic! Something for everyone : )
Hi there! I'm Tom North, an avid reader and equally avid author. (If authors can be 'avid', which I'm not sure they can, thinking about it.) Anyway, in my reading life I've just finished Lolita, which was fantastic in an oddly monstrous way. I'm now struggling with a bit of Virginia Woolf, which I'm beginning to suspect isn't my cup of warm, brown beverage. But I don't want to be a philistine so I'm persevering.
In my writing life, I have written a load of short stories and one novel. Some of the short stories are free (e.g. The Life and Times of a Graveyard Bear, Vivian and Zephuros and the Gift-Pear and these are up on my author page. I'm a happy boy because my novel, Puttypaw is getting great (and unsolicited!) reviews on Smashwords. I'm writing my second novel not-quite-but-nearly as we speak.
Please do drop me a line if you'd like to 'friend' me or discuss anything literary from any angle, including upside-down or, possibly, inside-out. Actually, not inside-out. That would be messy. Otherwise, go for it!

I'm Lacey Reah, a new writer who finally joined goodreads. I finally made my profile and posted some books. I read all genres but I especially like dark fantasy in the form of short stories, novellas and graphic novels. I love horror and erotica as well as plays and classical literature. I read non-fiction and I'm curious about anything and everything. Sometimes I'll read something that is a completely different genre but I'll love it because it is well written. I like books that make you think in any form. I don't form tight boundaries on stories and information. Skies the limit. I hope I can contribute to some juicy literary discussions. I'm very busy so I maybe be able to come in once a week or so. I don't know. We'll see how addicted I get.If you are interested in original vampire erotica, check out my latest novella, Fireflies by Lacey Reah. Thanks!

Hi there. My name's Tony Rabig; I'm a retired computer programmer, librarian, bookseller, and occasional adjunct teacher, not necessarily in that order, and just starting out over the last several months with some short fantasy stories at the Amazon Kindle store and Smashwords, and hope to have a novel (non-fantasy) ready late summer or early fall.
Will post descriptions and links for the fantasy stories in the fantasy thread. If they sound appealing you may want to grab them quickly from Smashwords -- I'm looking for reviews so the post will have coupon codes good until June 7 for the full price.
Am just starting to blog as well. Might even be able to keep it up.
I've always read a lot, and even so the to-be-read pile just seems to get higher. Sure hope there's an afterlife that allows reading so that maybe, just maybe, I can catch up...
Nice to be here. Bests to all.
