I'm glad you're having so much fun learning, and hope you enjoy the writing as much - if not more.

Yes, there are many different types of writers: some plan a lot, some plan a little, some don't plan at all.

Lesleyann Anderson (lesleyaanderson) | 9 comments Hi, my name is Lesley and I'm a recent convert to goodreads. what an amazing discovery! I think I'm becoming a touch addicted though.
After a 30 year career as a chef I have put the pots aside and taken up the pen to finally bring life to stories that have followed me around for years.
I'm a sucker for a good old romance but I love the classics too.
Rising Star is my first novel and is available on Amazon for Kindle.

Simon Strange (simon_strange) | 4 comments Hello all! I'm Simon Strange, and to date I write MM erotica and erotic romance--but I have an urban fantasy novel in the works that I am madly in love with as well as an alt-history revolutionary war YA novel that's also pretty exciting. Both feature gay male heroes, but the stories themselves are not centered on that fact. I'll be self publishing, as all the agents I've spoken with have asked that I 'straighten' my characters out before they'd try to sell it. Ain't that somethin'!

I write full time, eight hours a day, six days a week... often more. I'm an Oregonian, and we have some fantastic writerly weather and environs out here. Good to be here!

I love Chinese cooking, all things media like writing, video production. I have a B.F.A. in Film making and Video Production. A bachelor's in Computer Science. Nine classes short of getting 3rd bachelor's in Web Design. Plan on getting Master's in Movie and TV Production.

message 10428: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello I am Andrew. I wouldn't read fiction for a long time. Even when I started reading again I wouldn't read contemporary fiction.

I have just finished a novel and I have made a good start on another. I am wondering if there is anyone out there writing in a similar way.

It's easy enough on this site to find modern classics I've missed. I am bewildered by what's being published now. I can't find a way to navigate.

My strong intuition is that the books I am looking for are either indie ebooks or published by an independent firm.

How to find them?

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 2898 comments Welcome to the group, John, Andrew, V.L, and Franny!

John: just find the folder for the right genre for your book, and either start a new topic, or post on the welcome thread for that genre (for example, if you write fantasy, start a new thread in the "fantasy" section, or post on the already created "welcome fantasy authors and readers" thread).

message 10433: by Phil (new)

Phil Jones | 2 comments I'm Phil - a semi-retired Welshman now happily exiled in the far North-West corner of Scotland. I've always read avidly but only began writing since moving up here six years ago.
I was fortunate enough to have two projects taken on by traditional publishers soon after completion - '80 Hills' (a hill-walking guidebook to Snowdonia) and 'DreamGirl' (a YA novel written under the pen name Cyan Brodie and joint winner of the Red Telephone Young Adult novel of the year).
Bitten by the writing bug I've also self-published four other books - a short story collection (Summertime Blues), a poetry collection (80 Poems), and two other Cyan Brodie YA/NA novels. 'Dark Sky' is the most recent and the first of 'The Lochinver Trilogy'. It's being touted as Tartan Noir for Teens. I'm now working on the sequel - 'White Shore'.
Why do I write? It's something I have no choice over - like breathing. Once there's a story in my head it has to be told. I only write what I enjoy reading myself. If I can entertain a reader I feel my efforts have been worthwhile. It's also fun to have my characters take on a life of their own and surprise me. If they manage to do that there's a chance they'll surprise the audience as well.

Lyka (justlyka21) | 13 comments Hello everyone! I just joined this group today! My profile name is the same as my real name(see,no pretensions *wink*).I'm a twenty-something proud book-whore. I've always been a book-lover, even before I learned how to read. My mom used to tell me I always pretended to read aloud and form stories out of the pictures I saw in illustrated books I came across with. I took up AB/BSE Literature in college and actually joined and won our university's literary contest (poetry division) twice. When I was in high school, I used to write romantic stories (in my first language) and allow my classmates to read and review my novels (I gained two loyal fans, btw). I really, really wanted to be a romance author back then, yet when I earned my degree and started teaching, I find it hard to have the time (and inspiration) to start writing again... And so I opted to be a voracious reader rather than to be a prolific author. The feeling you get once you come across a great book is just so overwhelming, don't you think so? I am still hoping to commence writing (even as a hobby)when time permits.

Michael Granger | 11 comments Hello all, my name is Michael

I'm here on behalf of the SteadyHealth internet community, which created a dozens of books about healthy living, nutrition and weight loss. We're just about to start a free campaign for our ebooks and would like to share them with you.

Our first book is about a diet pill called Duromine.

It will be free for the next five days. The main advantage of our books is that they are created by real people sharing their real-life experiences. Our members share their doubts and tips about this weight loss pill — unlike those promoting the use of this pill, they provide unbiased peer-to-peer information which will really help people who are considering using Duromine know what the pros and cons are.

We would greatly appreciate your help in our effort to reach people and educate them about the safest weight loss methods. If you are willing, please, leave us a comment on Amazon.

Also, if you want a review from me, feel free to send me message and I will do my best to help you out.

Cheers!
