Hello, all - thanks for letting me join Goodreads Authors/Readers! :)Let me tell you a bit about myself: I'm a rabid reader and writer - like others, I abandoned my writing for a career in IT but I've never forgotten it. In fact, I love it so much that I've been writing it since 2008.
My love of fiction came together to form a Voltron-like structure of passion to become a full-time creative professional. I go into more detail here but I think you can understand why I'd want to take something I'm passionate about and turn it into a full-time job! :)
Aside from my own stuff, I love many genres of fiction and non-fiction. My desert island top-five books to read would have to be Neuromancer, To Kill a Mockingbird, Rum Punch, King Rat and Wiseguy.
I love telling stories - mostly dystopia and scifi. In fact - one of my prized possessions is my original Blade Runner one-sheet that I have hanging in my office. It collects all of my Comic-Con contribution tags (http://i.imgur.com/oZL9d5Ul.jpg).
Thanks for having me here - I look forward to getting to know all of you! :)
Best wishes,
Dan H.

The ForesterAdirondack Moments
Hello,
I am new in this group & here is some background info.
I am retired from teaching forestry for 30 years at Paul Smith's College located in the Adirondacks near Lake Placid, in northern New York State. Over the years my students often asked the question: what is good forest management? I changed the question to: what should the human relationship be with nature & have done a fair amount of research on this subject especially in the area of "environmental values & ethics." Some of the books I read on these subjects are in my book list.
My research eventually motivated me to write THE FORESTER. The main plot theme of this novel is "conflicting environmental values," which is presented & dramatized by various characters. While values was a major theme the story also developed as an adventure story & a love story & this helps to make the characters & plot more interesting & realistic and made the book more fun to write & to read.
My "click on" book page above goes into more detail on THE FORESTER.
While writing, trout fishing, hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing, forestry, teaching, raising 2 kids, keeping my wife happy & building a house occupied much of my time (list is not in any order of importance) I also have an interest in photography & began photographing the Adirondacks & showed an ongoing slide show to my students. At the end of my teaching career I published ADIRONDACK MOMENTS with Firefly Books, a photo book of this incredible region.
I am interested in hearing from folks about their views on environmental values & ethics & their views on the human relationship with nature & what they have read or written on these subjects.
So, if you have a few minutes, please send me some words.

Greetings, everyone. My name's Julius Bailey, and I am an avid reader as well as an author of epic fantasy. This group is a pleasant surprise, and I am pleased to be a part of it. It'll probably take me a little while to get the lay of the land though. So forgive me. :P

Oh, and... In regards to your earlier questions... I think the human race as a whole has lost touch with nature. There are those among us who have managed to maintain the connection humans once had with their surroundings - or, perhaps, reclaim it. But, for the most part, human beings are out of touch with the environment, and don't even know much about the animals who visit their gardens, let alone those elsewhere in the world. I mean, some people even use applications on their phones to check the weather rather than just sticking their head out of the door/window and seeing if they get rained on (which is more accurate, anyway; weather reports can be wrong). Even when I was a child - which wasn't really that many years ago - people thought nothing of walking in the rain/snow to get where they needed to go. These days they're reluctant to walk even in the dry. I understand that some people can't walk long distances due to health issues or disabilities, but these days it seems like even the most able bodied of people would rather hide indoors than spend any time outside; especially if that outside time could potentially mean they're among more natural than man-made surroundings. Like I said, this doesn't apply to everyone, but certainly it's the case for the greater portion of the population. At least, that's how things appear to me.

We are also moving. Our move is from Colorado to Oregon to be closer to our grand kids who live in Portland, Oregon & yes moving is chaotic. The world is changing too fast, perhaps you remember the book, FUTURE SHOCK, which was about the acceleration of change & the inability to deal with it. I think we are there? We have lost our connection to the land & nature. The book LAST CHILD IN THE WOODS is about the fact that this generation is not bonding to nature & poses the question, will we have environmentalists in the future? Depressing.

Thank you, Sherri!
Hi everyone!I’m terrible for not introducing myself here yet – apologies! – since I've been a member of this group for a few months now.
My name is Nicola and I'm from the U.K. I'm an avid reader, particularly fond of the classics. Jane Eyre is my favourite novel, but I love anything written by the Brontes. I'm an author too. My debut novel is a paranormal romance and dark adventure inspired by Jane Eyre. It’s set at a Tudor mansion in present-day southeast England. Halton Cray
It’s great to be a part of this group! :)

Hello to you, Sherri! :)
Hello everyone! I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jeremy and I write under the name J.T. Williams. I love fantasy and science fiction as well as ancient history and poetry!
My influences include Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Stephen King, Terry Brooks, and Robert Jordan among others.
I have multiple works slated for publication over the next 6 months with my debut novel, "Winemaker Of The North", that just went live on Amazon within the last week.
That is all!

My move was a much shorter distance, and for different resons (the property we were renting part of got sold). Anyway, I hope your move is going well.
I don't recall the book you mentioned, but I do get your point, and agree that it's depressing.
I'm Tonii, and I just released my first book, Antonio's. Glove. I've lived in Miami the past 50 years and seen the changes from immigration, development and more. I worked at The Miami Herald, so had a frontline on all those waves of change.
I'm Sorchia and I write paranormal and gothic novels. I love to read nearly anything, though I have a soft spot for British lit--classic and modern. Looking forward to being a member of this group.

Good morning dearest writers and readers! I write art historical fiction books and am excited to get to know some of you. Hope you all have a beautiful day...

No problem!
And... It worked just fine; the html code you'd have seen wasn't anything to worry about. It shows up whenever you reply to a post someone already put up, and is just the fancy codes to show you were quoting something someone else posted (or part of it; depending on how long their post was).
Hi, guys, I'm pleased to meet you all, I'm a London based aspiring Author who's in the middle of writing my second romance. I look forward to getting to know both readers and writers :)

Hi Im Isa d'Aubrey. My passion for books and writing goes beyond the expression of words. I can settle down with any type of genre and want to inspire people as much as every book inspires me.
Good morning everyone, my name is Freya Barrington and I am an author and a reader. I love to read a wide variety of books from the classics to good old Dan Brown. My debut novel "Known to Social Services" was released a week ago and is the number one social work book on Amazon UK, which is obviously thrilling for me. I wrote the book based on my own experiences as a social worker, though naturally, it is fictionalised. I look forwards to meeting many new people here and to reading and discussing more books. I am currently reading a collection of short stories by James Morgan Ayres called, "Just Passing Through" - an enjoyable read about his travels in Europe and beyond.
Hi, my name is Shirley Bear Fedorak. I am from Canada but have lived in Egypt, Mexico, and currently Beirut, Lebanon. I recently joined the Gooodreads Author program and much to my surprise, I enjoy writing a blog. Most of my writing has been academic but my passion is fiction. I have published 2 books in my Footsteps series on Kindle, The Reluctant Pharaoh, and The Fearless Bedouin. Amazon also lists my most recent non-fiction books, Global Issues: A Cross Cultural Perspective, and Anthropology Matters (Univ. of Toronto Press).
I look forward to reading your posts, learning more about writing fiction, and responding to some of your posts on my blog.

Hi, Freya :)
Hi, Freya :)
Hello fellow authors and readers! I write literary fiction, memoir & poetry so far. I wrote and published between 25 and 30 years ago, then fell into the black hole of life. Now at age 68 I find myself back at it, starting with a rewrite and expansion of my previously published book "Hair Suit." It's now called "Her Perilous Journey," and is the first book of a planned trilogy. (It'll be out momentarily on Kindle for preorder, release is May 12) One is never too old to write, and the process of rewriting a book I wrote in my youth, sculpting and refining, finding what it was I was trying to say, and realizing that it was only the beginning, was an unexpected gift. As a reader, I love literary fiction, memoir, biography, historical fiction and very old books that tell me what people were like hundreds of years ago. Saludos from Oaxaca, where I live most of the year.

Thank you, Lenita! Some days I remember fondly when I only had one dog in the house! We have all sizes, from a 100lb lab to a 10lb miniature pinscher. But they all think they're lap dogs.
