Thanks so much Maggie. I post testimonials and link to other websites, so lets help each other!! (Assuming you'll love the book of course :) and give it two thumbs up.) I love what you wrote here from your bio: "The health of any society lies in the strength of its families. Thus, strengthening families will strengthen communities and nations." Go Girl! This is my mission on this planet... to strengthen the homelife to strengthen the world. We definitely have to collaborate!

David Pauly (davidpauly) | 3 comments Hi

My name is David Pauly and I just got published last week! The title of my book is Icarus Rising. Icarus is a fantasy fiction story, where a medieval world full of different races of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Gracies have recently defeated the Terrible Dark Lord, Magnar. Now each race is trying to keep their lands and skills for themselves while expanding into each other's territory. Each race of people believes that not only are they acting in their own self interest, but in the best interests of the entire world. Conflict quickly grows within and without of each race creating a complex world of intermeshing alliances and relationships. War threaten to break out when multiple assassinations explode across the City of Westmen, nearly killing crown prince Alfrahil. Who is to blame for these dastardly attacks?

Please send me your feedback/comments.

Mira, I'm happy to learn of a new mystery series. If you read romance which includes mystery, try my two linked books on Kindle: THE MOST UNSUITABLE WIFE and THE MOST UNSUITABLE HUSBAND. I usually have to insert murder and mayhem to my books, and that's true of my two recent releases from The Wild Rose Press, THE TEXAN'S IRISH BRIDE and OUT OF THE BLUE. Now, I have to go check out your mysteries. LOL

Both are terrific writers, and Maeve's is more than just time travel and involves ancient Gaelic curses, etc. I also have a time travel, OUT OF THE BLUE, in which a woman from 1845 Ireland comes forward to today to help a police detective solve a series of murders for which someone is trying to frame him.

Julia | 14 comments Anita, I just went and gave your book intro some feedback. In short, loved it. You're going to help a lot of people. Your transparency is the winning ticket along with the "lesson learned" section at the end that gives those in the middle of that journey wisdom beyond that moment, wisdom from someone looking back.

In the book I wrote, many of the dads I interviewed talk about handling children headed toward or in addiction--but offer some unique takes to it... I think the contents of "If I Were Your Daddy" might provide you some more insights into the "lessons learned" sections - through other's insightful journeys. Specifically take a look at Ted Tillinghast, Dr. John Demartini and Dr. Henry Abraham's chapters in the book. The last one is a teenage drug expert, a retired Harvard psychiatrist (specializing in this field) and a Nobel Peace prize recipient. He says that 1/2 of the cases that come through his door originates in some way from the child not finding something of their own, something truly authentic to who they are; they never find something to feel good about themselves and are without a direction that inspires them. His two children were headed down this path, but he saw the signs, and he headed it off.

Let me know what you think-- and if you find the chapters, and real-stories, helpful in the book. If I Were Your Daddy, This Is What You'd Learn Keep at it. You've got a winner of a book coming! I'm here to help you anyway I can.

Lori Davidson (Laddie) | 8 comments Hi.. I'm Lori and my co-authored book Chicken Nachos just hit Amazon and B&N. Love writing.. love marketing (Did I really just say that?) Here's the skinny on Chicken Nachos: .. Read Chicken Nachos and you'll never think of verbal or emotional abuse in the same way. This takes you into the lives of two women in a really unique way. You'll be entertained and at times laugh out loud.. but don't be fooled.. sad info delivered in a very clever way. Definitely should read if you've ever questioned whether you.. or someone you know.. experienced verbal abuse.. or just wondered about this type of abuse. Definitely thought provoking! Easy read!

Lori Davidson (Laddie) | 8 comments Anita wrote: "Lori, I'm interested. Do you have a preview chapter?"

Amazon is working on building the look inside the book page and the Kindle conversion now. Should be available soon. It's a hard one to just "chapter out" because the premise walks you through individual lessons that show the journey from initial denial to actually losing yourself as a party to the abuse.. We've got fairy tale characters that develop as the ability of the women to cope with reality diminishes. I've got to tell you.. my co-author and I lived it and wrote the chapters individually to heal. Put it together on the other side of healing to help others understand. Does that help or muddy the waters further?

I met Jack at one of his Success Principles workshops. I sent him some info on my book, which he referred to his former publisher. Unfortunately the gentleman no longer handled my "genre".. Jack emailed to offer encouragement and I've submitted a proposal for a Chicken Soup book. However, I haven't heard from him in a while. I have a copy of Chicken Nachos to send him sitting on my desk with a thank you note. More than anything, his workshop and guidance on going after your dreams kept me on this until I found a way around rejections. The book doesn't fit the normal genre stereotyping so getting a publisher involved has been an uphill battle. We're self-publishing and marketing in hopes of getting picked up. Easier to do when the product is in hand. I'll let you know if I hear from Jack after I send him the completed book. How'd you get him to read and recommend yours?

message 876: by Julia (new)

Julia | 14 comments Did you know Jack sold the Chicken Soup brand. He's no longer making Chicken soup book, though his name is still on all of them. I got him to read it by going to his "breakthrough to success" seminar and I made a mocked-up copy of the book "If I Were Your Daddy" with him and I as co-authors. I sent the book to his room at the hotel with a fruit plate and a bouquet of flowers and a note that said "Jack, our book just hit #1 on the NYT best seller list. Congratulations! Give my Love to Inga" I didn't know Jack. I didn't know his wife Inga, then. But I made an impression. He gave me his personal office number and the rest is history. :)

message 877: by Lori (new)

Lori Davidson (Laddie) | 8 comments Wow.. He gave me his personal email.. so he sure is approachable. He walks his talk! I plan on sending him the copy with a note... Like your approach better since visualization is part of his teachings. I would like to attend one of his breakthrough seminars. So far I've only managed the VIP access to Success Principles workshop. That's how I got one on one time. So thrilled for you!! You walk the talk too and I see that hitting the best seller list .. absolutely without a doubt! Appreciate the feedback .. any ideas you'd extend for my project would be greatly appreciated. I created a link to preview the first few pages until Amazon has my page fully activated. Take a look and let me know what you think. By the way, I did all the artwork and my niece has a design studio and did layout. My co-author was a fabulous editor.. We should all set up our own seminar!!

Elisabeth Nelson (elisabethnelson) | 4 comments Hi All! My name is Elisabeth Nelson. I'm new to the group, and truth be told this is my first time joining any discussion group. I would like to mention that I've recently published my novel, High Ground, which, I describe as historical fiction with a love story element, or historical romance without the R (or more explict)rating. I will confess I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the marketing, and frankly, I'm wondering how any author promotes their book without coming across as "It's all about me, me, me." I love the subject matter of my novel, but anymore, I feel like if talk about the subject matter (not only in the context of my novel) people think I'm just trying to make a sale. Sales aren't a bad thing, but they can't be everything. Or am I naive? Regardless, I look forward to learning more from all of you.High Ground

I hear ya, Elisabeth! I recently published my first book, a collection of short stories. I'm not by nature a pushy person, so I have a hard time talking about my book with people, even friends and family, because I don't want them to feel, as you said, that all I want to do is sell them a product.

I've received nothing but positive reactions from folks when I talk about my book, however, so I am overcoming my initial reluctance. I'm not in this to get rich, obviously, but I would like to break even at least. People think it's pretty cool generally that I've published a book, which makes me feel good. The hard part is finding ways to reach people outside my circle. That's what Goodreads is doing for me, to some extent.

Good luck!

You're not "just a reader". You're the reason that authors like me write. You're the audience.

message 893: by Channing (new)

Channing Hayden | 4 comments Hello. I'm Channing Hayden, a part time writer. I have three stories available as Kindle books, and one, Magdalenes is also available as a trade paperback. All are historicals set in New Orleans. Magdalenes takes place between 1897 and 1906. I consider it a historical mainstream but some call it a Romance. True the main character is female and she falls in love. If that's your definition of a Romance, so be it. But don't expect the typical formula Romance if you decide to read it.

The other two are stories from my series "Tales of the Fencing Master," beginning in 1810, these are stories from the life and times of Villard D'Mongé. The Fencing Master series is a bit different from a normal novel. It tells Villard's story in a series of short stories. For the most part all of the stories are historical mysteries, though I venture into other genres on occasion. The first installment is "Matters of Honor," a novella that contains two related stories - "The Vampyre in Satin's Soup" and "A Tale of Two Revolutions." In "Vampyre" Villard must solve the murders of young slave girls found in the swamp with puncture wounds on their neck. In "Two Revolutions," the murder of Villard's brother-in-law embroils him in the two revolutions that actually took place in and around New Orleans. In the second installment, "The Minions of Greed," Villard's good friend dies unexpectedly and his daughter asks Villard's help in gaining her inheritance. When she is taken by bounty hunters, Villard's quest to rescue her discovers a father's irrational love, a cousin's unconscionable pursuit of wealth, a slave's unselfish devotion and a cockroach's interest in family affairs. Ultimately Villard's alter ego, the pirate Jacques La Rouge, will balance the scales of justice in a way even he does not anticipate.

By the way, for those of you who are as technically incompetent as I am, a note to let you know that you don't need a Kindle to read a Kindle eBook. Free Kindle readers are available from Amazon for your computer and other electronic devices.

Lisa Murphy Hello, I'm Lisa. I've written six books. One was published --yipee! -- Jan 2011, The Turkish Mirror. I write magical realism (think The Gargoyle or The Lovely Bones), science fiction (biological science rather than space saga), and historical fiction (American 19th century). I particularly enjoy recreating characters from other cultures, as I spent my childhood traveling and living in rather wild and woolly places. Thanks Vince, for making a forum where we writing folks can meet.

I like to live an exciting fun life but I don't think it will ever compare to my imagination. It would be great if you guys could recommend me some interesting books, with great plot twists and unexpected turn of events. I also like books that make me think and have a deeper psychological meaning.
The mainly reason I Joined this group is to have some people to discuss with, since most of my friends don't read or only read YA books. Some YA books can be quite interesting, but I'm just sick of reading about the same thing over and over again. So I would be very glad to talk about something else.
I fell completely in love with books, and over 50% of my spare time goes to reading.
I am not very found of writing, but not for lack of fantasy and imagination, but I love reading too much to write something myself. Does it make any sense?
