Hi Guy - 8 daughters - I can't imagine. I raised one. You deserve a medal! You deserve a Kindle! You can download a Kindle ereader for the computer for free, and Nook has a free Nook for the computer, so does ITunes...so now, no more excuses - plus if you get a Kindle reader, you can download free Kindle books (author use these as promotions to hopefully get reviews).

It sounds like your life could be a book...:)

Ellen Harger (ellenharger) | 9 comments I'll introduce myself in two ways. First, I'm Ellen. I believe great storytelling asks readers to confront what they’ve stuffed deep down.

We all get blinded by emotion and stuck in ruts. I believe in change. I believe in evolving – ideas, personalities, theories. It’s about the moment, not the past.

My mission is to help readers challenge the absolutes they carry around, known and unknown. I want to offer a mirror to ask people, “Do you see yourself in this caricature?”

I’m a word gypsy and emotion sifter. I’m also obsessed with elephants. Oh, and the process. Screw results. Show me how you got there.

In June 2005, I woke up to a wall of fire. Watching the flames eat away my life was my biggest turning point in life.

Not long after, I realized I wanted a divorce, left California and went home to Missouri, where I finished my first novel – and learned to invest in myself and my writing.

My debut novel, STRONG ENOUGH, was released in 2013. I released my sophomore novel, THE ANONYMOUS BLOG OF MRS. JONES a month ago.

Watch the book trailer for Mrs. Jones here:

Or find me on my website: ellenharger.com

The second way I'll introduce myself is with a poem:

My name is Amy Flint I have recently joined GR – I’m still finding my way around the site! I’m not sure what the etiquette is for finding friends within a group, but if anyone is interested in becoming GR friends, please let me know.

Best wishes

Welcome, Amy. The etiquette is the same as real world. Speak confidently, respect the views of others, and don't be a troll, and friends will seek you out. You'll be fine! Hope you enjoy a long, productive membership.

I'm sure there are some GR masters on here, but I know that it took me a while to find a rhythm. For a while I used the site as a place to keep a reading list!

Welcome to insanity.
Cheers!

message 8266: by [deleted user] (new)

I am Trevor Williams, 31, currently in the USA. I've always loved reading growing up, as well as writing stories - my earliest story was inspired by a horror movie that I saw when I was just seven - "The Blob".

In high school, I wrote a lot of poetry and short stories, alongside my running my first (and only) Dungeons & Dragons campaign, which spanned nearly two years. During college, I dabbled a bit in journalism, but found more joy in being a DJ for the local radio station.

Today, I'm working full-time writing code and generally keeping the back-end of the nonprofit I work for up and running - work I really enjoy. Alongside that, I've been speaking at various nonprofit events concerning Salesforce and its benefits for nonprofits, which has been generating quite the snowball effect in terms of opportunities.

I would love to publish a work of fiction one day, but in the meantime, I've been busy working on some fan fiction that's dominated some blocks of time in my life alongside my friends and family. I've decided to post my story here on Goodreads to get it greater exposure and to learn more from all of you!

Here's a direct link: https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...

Feel free to leave any amount of constructive criticism! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

message 8267: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Hello Ellen, Amy and Trevor.

Trevor; The Blob is still a great movie.

message 8268: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 21, 2014 03:23AM) (new)

Beau: actually, The Blob (1988) is now one of my all-time favorite movies. In retrospect, it turned me into the horror / thriller movie buff that I am today. I could talk for days about 80s horror flicks. :)

message 8269: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) I saw the 80s version when it first came out. It is still on my shopping list to purchase on DVD (I purchased the original years ago).

80s horror movies were creative and fun, not like the gore-fests that come out nowadays.

message 8270: by [deleted user] (new)

The DVD version is surprisingly spartan in terms of features - the only thing you'll really get with the DVD is a much higher quality version of the movie versus the VHS. That said, I do recommend getting the DVD, or finding a digital version of the movie.

Unless you're talking about the 1958 version of The Blob. That's also a great classic, though for different reasons in my opinion.

And I agree regarding your thoughts on 80s horror in general!

It's nice to meet you all.

Lenita Sheridan | 1010 comments Welcome Trevor. I've read some Stephen King books and dabbled a little myself in writing some surrealistic horror short stories. They're really more like Twilight Zone stories. I liked the movie "The Ring" and "The Ring II."

message 8278: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 21, 2014 02:06PM) (new)

Victoria: I hope so! Keeping my fingers crossed that a story about a 700-mile floating island appearing suddenly a few miles over Earth circa 2014 can win some hearts and minds.

Lenita, hello! I used to read Stephen King - the last book I read of his was "Cell", though it's his earlier works that I really enjoyed, such as "The Langoliers", "The Stand", and "It". And Twilight Zone is up there with Outer Limits as two of my favorite TV series.

Your idea about the floating island sounds intriguing. I hope you will develop it. I'd like to read it.

The Stephen King books I've read are The Talisman, which he wrote with Peter Straub and is really more of a fantasy, and Dumas Key. I've seen so many of his movies that they are too numerous to list.

Lynette Chambers | 7 comments Hey there - I am Lynette Chambers. In October last year, after living 26 years in the Atlanta area, my husband and I moved back to my home town to begin the process of semi-retiring. Although, I doubt we will ever actually retire, who has time to do that!

In the past five years I have moved four times across country, and published three novels - two of which will be part of a trilogy. These books are co-authored with one of my younger sisters. We are working to complete the third in the trilogy and plan to have it out soon

At this time I am also working on a couple of stand alone novels which I hope to see published in my name in the next few months.

My writing career has been a long time in the making with raising two children, working full time, and serving in ministry for many of these years.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to finally see my dreams of being an author coming true.

Hi Eileen,

I know, I had trouble with that at first, too. You go out to where you found this folder and then scroll down. There is a folder for the mystery genre there; if you keep scrolling down you'll find it. I hope this helps.

When you get to the mystery folder click on it; that's your link. You just open the folder, the way you did this one, and post your information within the folder just the way you posted here. You can put your own link within that folder as well as anything else pertaining to your writing, assuming you are a writer. If you're a reader the authors' links will be posted in the appropriate folder.
