Welcome, David! From your brief description, what comes to mind is historical fiction of the Winds of War variety, but I'll keep an eye out. I love it when an author can show my jaded old eye something I've never seen before. Regardless, anything and everything is "worth a try." Best of luck!

Ltheresa | 5 comments Hi to all. Last year I took a chance and started reading books by different authors, one I particularly enjoy is Linwood Barclay, I sure would like to write like he does.. Ordinary people and then things start to happen..... twists and turns - all his books are a great read !
having participated in 2 NANO's in 2011 and 2013 -
still in first drafts - first one "Generations or might be River Valley not sure yet -about a family on the prairies it spans 5 decades and lots of characters to build on for other books ...
the 2nd book is based on 2 buddies go on fishing trip to their cabin in jackson hole wy and what happens to them on that road trip -- Called "road trip"
the other novels I just started are in rough draft
The Coffee Baronness (woman in mid life meets a man in early 30s who is from Brazil and the secret that she has and hopes he never finds out)
The Connection (based on the song Mr & Mrs Jones)
romance but turns into a thriller
the 3rd novel I working on is
An Angel Got His Wings ( a young boys dies tragically .
Opening scene (deep voice) When time has passed one can see clearly how it all came to be .. that event that changed a family so dramatically.. they were never the same people they were before …

intriguing --:)

Chloe Testa | 5 comments Hello all, I'm Chloe and I'm from the UK. I love reading books, all kinds of books, and I took this love of reading and became an English Lit/Lang teacher because hello what could be better than inspiring kids to read and love literature from all over the world?

Along with being a reader, I'm also a writer! I've just had my first novel published and I've been writing short stories and bits and pieces for years (Thank goodness they've gotten better since then though!).

Looking forward to hopefully getting to converse/discuss/debate/share with you all soon!

Lorraine Devon Wilke (lorrainedevonwilke) Hello, All!

I became a member of Goodreads just a few months ago and am now knee-deep in it as both a reader and an author...it's a great site, as you all know!

As of May, I had my debut novel published (self-pubbed), am in the midst of getting it out into the world, and would love to connect with readers here who enjoy contemporary literary fiction. I'll leave a mini-synopsis below and anyone who's interested can pop me a message or just click over to my page!

Happy to be here and I look forward to chatting with others of the group!

After the Sucker Punch by Lorraine Devon Wilke They buried her father at noon, at five she found his journals, and in the time it took to read one-and-a-half pages her world turned upside down… he thought she was a failure.

Every child, no matter what age, wants to know their father loves them, and Tessa Curzio – thirty-six, emerging writer, ex-rocker, lapsed Catholic, defected Scientologist, and fourth in a family of eight complicated people – is no exception. But just when she thought her twitchy life was finally coming together – solid relationship, creative job; a view of the ocean – the one-two punch of her father’s death and posthumous indictment proves an existential knockout.

She tries to “just let it go,” as her sister suggests, but life viewed through the filter of his damning words is suddenly skewed, shaking the foundation of everything from her solid relationship and winning job to the truth of her family, even her sense of self. From there, friendships strain, bad behavior ensues, new men entreat, and family drama spikes, all leading to her little-known aunt, a nun and counselor, who lovingly strong-arms Tessa onto a journey of discovery and reinvention. It’s a trip that’s not always pretty – or particularly wise – but somewhere in all the twists and turns, unexpected truths are found.

AFTER THE SUCKER PUNCH

R.S. Compton (RSCompton) | 4 comments Hello everybody.

I am from Alabama. I have been with good reads for about a month now. I enjoy reading when I have the time between my work, writing, and my son. I am an author (self published). I write fantasy series. My first series is out on Amazon, smash words, and nook. The name is The Legends of Demetria:Book I. It is anybody that enjoys fantasy books without cursing and sexual content.

http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00LVLUEZS

After the death of his father at the hands of the tyrannous General Drago, Volic vows revenge. Setting off on a voyage of discovery Volic travels to the Tai-Zerjin trials, a place that will push him beyond all boundaries in order to awaken the power that lies within him. However the power alone is not enough. Volic embarks on a journey of self-discovery and begins to question not only himself but his motivations. Who should he become? The executor of revenge against the one that dared to kill his father or the protector of Demetria?

Lynn Montagano | 6 comments Hi everyone!

I'm really excited to be part of the Goodreads family. =) My name is Lynn Montagano and my debut series is being published by HarperImpulse. The first two books are available now (yay!) and yes, they're listed here on Goodreads. It's a contemporary romance series, with the emphasis on steamy romance. Plus, the hero is British so who can really resist an accent like that, right? ;)

Please don't be shy and feel free to connect with me here or on Twitter (@LynnMontagano) and Facebook (facebook.com/AuthorLynnMontagano) I'm very chatty. =)

Talk to you all soon!
Lynn xx

STUART LORDE-JARDINE is a recovering Christian.
He was born in the prophetically significant year of 1953: the Julian Year 6666. His nativity took place in Northern Ireland on the 8th of June: precisely the 1,321st anniversary of the death of The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). His father – while perhaps not strictly a carpenter –did undertake woodwork classes at school, and his mother was once a virgin. According to the testimonial evidence of a long-dead maiden aunt, Stuart’s maternal lineage is descended from both the Bruce and Stuart royal families of Scotland. His paternal lineage is of generations of British clergymen and missionaries who carried Bibles and muskets and incurable diseases to unbaptised heathens throughout the Empire and beyond.
Young Stuart’s family migrated to the former penal colonies now known collectively as Australia. There he was educated at, and became staff member of, several universities: specialising in economic history. At one such institution he undertook religion studies. The trauma of the experience convinced him the world desperately needed his Reformation Hypothesis and Satan’s Guide to the Bible – a drive-by tour for the intellectually curious.

A N A | 1 comments Hi I'm Lexi (A N A), I like to write and have several books I am working on, mostly for the fun of it. I entered the prologue on Good Reads once I learned I could do that to see if it was a good start. I enjoy writing fiction novels and reading just about anything. i am currently in high school, but find my attention leaning towards writing and reading more than actual schoolwork...
