Hi, I'm Jack Tyler. I've acquired the sobriquet of "Blimprider" from my fascination with the steampunk genre. I'm a self-published author, which in practical terms means that writing is a Glorified Hobby for me. My author's page is http://steampunkjack.weebly.com/ where I have posted a free sample of my work, and I also maintain a blog there which posts here in somewhat accurate form through its RSS feed. http://goodbadbizarre.com is in the process of running a long interview with me, and I'm a member of a couple of steampunk guilds. Everything else exciting is collected on my author page, so I'll stop now. I love visitors, so if there's anything you'd like to talk about, just open a conversation, and I'll be right there. Looking forward to pleasant conversations with all of you!

~ "Blimprider"

John Leahy (john_leahy) | 1 comments Hello all
I'm John Leahy and I'm about to have my second novel "The Faith" published under Open Books in a few weeks time.

http://www.open-bks.com/library/moder...

I received the idea for it when I went on career break and lived in West Hollywood for two months (not knowing it was the gay hub of the city at the time!).

Outside of this literary work I mostly write in the sci-fi apocalyptic vein. I have a novella called "Harry Wall's Man" coming out under Permuted Press in August. In this story the main character discovers that a deadly supernatural force inhabits the steel skeleton of a Los Angeles apartment tower. "The Boy Who Came Back To Earth" will come out under Permuted next year - this centers around an obsessive unrequited love that almost destroys the world. I have another novel after that contracted to Permuted - tentatively entitled "One Step Ahead" - this work centers around an oil company that goes to desperate (and ultimately catastrophic) lengths to replenish its dwindling reserves.

Happy writing and reading all and best of luck.

A.G. Rosai (agrosai) | 4 comments Hello, my name is A G Rosai, and I'm from the UK. I always wanted to write but never did – until now :-) After two decades of pondering, a few weeks ago I finally decided to try my hand at writing (better late than never).

I've finished writing, editing and proofreading a short fantasy story that (hopefully) has a deeper message as well. It's almost 8000 words, what is approx 25 pages, but it doesn't have any fancy cover etc. I'd like to make it available for free. As this is my very first short story, I don't know how good or bad it is (my other half says it's good :-)), so I would love to get some feedback. The only problem is that I don't have any experience with publishing, and also, I'm new to both this Group and Goodreads. So any advice on how/where to publish/upload it (Goodreads or other sites) so people can download/read it for free would be really appreciated.

message 7772: by [deleted user] (new)

You might consider http://writing.com, a site with several levels of membership, from free to outrageous, where you can post anything you like, and get critiques and reviews. They usually want you to return the favor, but there are other ways to "pay," especially the system-wide use of "Gift Points" which can be used to buy features on the site. Drop by and see what they offer, anyway. Could be just what you're looking for.

Terri George (goodreadscomterri_george) | 3 comments Beguiled The Frost Trilogy #1 by Terri George

Hi everyone.
I'm Terri and I live in London, England.
By day I work as a sales administrator and at night dream of becoming a full-time writer.
I love books - there's nothing like losing yourself in a good story is there? I was brought up to read. Every Saturday after lunch my parents and I would go to the library and each take out as many as they'd let us and I'd spend the afternoon sprawled on the sitting room floor devouring the books.
I read books of all genres (fav authors include: Ian McEwan, Paul Auster, Anne Tyler, William Boyd, Joanne Harris and Patrick Gale), but as I want to be an erotic romance writer I've only listed books I've read of that genre on my author page. If I listed every book I've read you'd be scrolling forever and a day!
I've added my first published book to the group bookshelf so if it's your kind of thing please pop over there and take a look.
Looking forward to chats with members and recommendations of books to read.

M.D. Luis (mdluis) | 4 comments Greetings Everyone!

I'm writing from my little niche at the dining room table ignoring the laundry, the dirty dishes in the sink and some kind of horrific odor coming from the general direction of my son's room. Surely it must be his pet rat? I'm a writer and recently self-published author. My first novel, Aria, was released in June. I'm grateful to have found such a incredible resource in Goodreads, it truly has been a blessing. I only wish there were fewer chores so I could chat more...sigh.

I wouldn't put money on it M.D. My teenage nephew also has a rat, and it's cleaner than he is.

Hello, and my name is Jessica Fehd. I'm just a seventeen-year-old girl with a passion to read and a love for literature/writing. I'm currently working on some small short stories (my biggest flaw is erasing what I've written before I've had a chance to really develop my ideas...it tends to be a vicious cycle). I would be happy to discuss/chat with any of the other members or read anyone else's work.

I hope everyone here has a nice day/night, and I can't wait to hear more about everyone else!

This is how it starts. You want to write a few harmless little stories, and the next thing you know, there's your name on the most wanted author's list! You just settle in and have a ball. You never know what might happen tomorrow. Welcome to the group. Have a good time, and do great things!

No kidding, Jack!I'm not sure if I have the longevity and patience to write a novel at this point in my life. You never know, though; one day I might be a best-selling author. ;)

Congratulations on your own successes/writings.

Hi Jessica! I recommend playing a game with yourself to keep at it. You can count your words every day and try to beat yourself in how much you wrote the day before. Setting aside a regular block of time every day helps, too.

Brenda Hasse (bmh730) | 7 comments Hello Everyone!
To date, I have written four books. Three are children's picture books and one is a pre-teen medieval mystery chapter book, Wilkinshire. Wilkinshire has been honored to receive a gold medal in the Midwest Book Awards and a silver medal in the Moonbeams Children's Book Awards. For the past two years I have participated in NaNoWriMo and am currently putting the final edit on my first NaNo novel titled The Freelancer. It is a YA/NA Historical Medieval Romance. I hope to have it published in September 2014. For all of the writers - keep the pen moving and the keyboard clicking!

Here's the link to my free book (you'll find out more about it on the site before you actually select it): http:www.storycartel.com/genres/fantasy. Anyone who is interested can download this, all in exchange for a review. They also have drawings for prizes from reviews that have been completed. I've done some and found that the more reviews you do the better you chances are. Also, if the book is not there right away, it should be by Friday.

Actually, I've just checked and it's on there right now. Note that it expires in 21 days. The book isn't very long--about the length of one of The Chronicles of Narnia books.
