DoodlePanda Hey, I just joined :)

I would be filed under the 'reader' category as I've never really written anything. Not because I don't want to, I just haven't got the skill... Reading is good too though, Lol :)

Sounds like an interesting mix of subjects :)

Great idea to give the books that you've finished to people who might not be able to buy their own!

Hi all.
Just to let everyone know, I've finally been given credit for The Addict and I have my author homepage. I'm now blogging so come along a join in. I'm willing to answer questions anyone might have.
Happy reading.
Scott Whenman.

T. Ann Lacey (TAnnLacey) | 1 comments Hello ...

I'm mostly a lurker around the groups on GR, checking out people's lists and such. I'm a FT mother and writer (and GR junkie). Love to meet fellow book lovers and word-nerds alike, so this place is my personal utopia.

Friend requests always welcome! Keeping in touch with like-minded book-a-holics is important, IMO :)

Have a great day,

-T-

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Congratulations Scott.

Good morning T.

message 7165: by Wesley (new)

Wesley Mullen | 9 comments Hi. I'm Wes, and I'm a writer (I've waited so long to be able to say that). At age 63, I've just published my first book. City Sketches (non-fiction, travel, memoir) - so I'm living proof that there is life after 50, and a pretty darn good one at that. Never give up on your dream - and if you have, as I did for many years, then fight to reclaim it!

message 7166: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda Congratulations Scott! :)

Congratulations Wesley! :)

Chester Hendrix | 48 comments Wow! Looks like I definitely found the place to be - been here only a few days and with all the new posts, I no longer feel like the New Kid On The Block [hate that feeling]. Welcome, new folks!

And Wes - I know EXACTLY how you feel, Buddy! Just turned 59 myself and finished my first novel [260K words] 2 years ago.

Still doing the editing.... *ugh*

Joshua Zakary (jzakary) | 7 comments Hello!

My name is Josh. I’m an amateur writer and photographer. I’ve worked in Africa for several years doing international developments projects in northern Uganda and Namibia.

I recently did a massive revision of my book (The Tide) chronicling my experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uganda. It’s taken five years of my life to finally reach the point where I feel comfortable with my book.

I joined Goodreads, so I can connect with likeminded individuals, find some interesting books I haven’t read yet, and maybe extend my readership a bit.

Thanks!

Joshua Zakary

Wesley,

Frank McCourt wrote his memoir, "Angela's Ashes" when he was 66 years old, and he won a Pulitzer Prize for it. It's never too late!

message 7181: by Yael (new)

Yael Shahar | 2 comments Hello all (or as we say in my part of the world, Shalom Y'all!)

My name is Yael Shahar, and I'm an author, reader, Talmud scholar, and part-time cat-herder. Mostly I enjoy reading non-fiction, but will settle for the text on the back of a cereal box if nothing else is handy.

My book A Damaged Mirror is due for a Goodreads Giveaway in the next few days. It's been called "a holocaust memoir with a twist," and though parts make for difficult reading, the overall message is an optimistic one.

Looking forward to getting to know what others are up to!

-Yael

Nice to meetcha. I'm Monica Enderle Pierce and I'm a Goodreads author. I write science fiction (space opera) and fantasy (historical). Like many authors, I tend to disappear for long stretches of time, so I hope you'll forgive me for being a bit antisocial when it comes to social media. (I'm between books now, so ta-da, I'm he-ere!)

message 7188: by Christine (new)

Christine Tryon (CSTryon) | 15 comments My name is Christine Tryon. I am a breast cancer thriver: A survivor who is thriving two and a half years after being diagnosed with Stage One, invasive, estrogen+, intraductal carcinoma. (Try saying that five times fast!)

I just finished writing and publishing a memoir about my personal journey with breast cancer; the importance of faith, family and friendship; the lessons that I learned and what I wish I had known beforehand.

The title: Dear Sister: My Bathroom Mirror Saved My Life. I would LOVE to exchange reviews with people. I LOVE reading memoirs, historical fiction, self-help books and humor.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 2898 comments Welcome to the group, Bianca, Monica and Christine!

message 7191: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Hi Christine. Memoirs of survivors are a life-line to others about to go through what you went through. It is reassuring for them to see that they aren't alone, and to hear about the journey from someone isn't a doctor. Overcoming the fear of the unknown and seeing that there is hope, can make a world of difference.

Hello Sophia. I thought about contacting you about a review, but after reviewing your list of reading preferences I've decided that we wouldn't be a great match. I write paranormal thrillers, which is to say that I write a different brand of horror. I create a soft spot in the reader's heart and then use it as a tool.

It was nice meeting you.

Chester Hendrix | 48 comments Hat's off to you, Christine. One of my projects is to write a memoir-style book about my daughter who passed at 24 last year from Type 1 Diabetes and a host of other maladies. I've gone to start it a couple of times, but it's still a little close.

How long was it after your episode before you could effectively write about it?
