Hi, everyone :). I'm G.S., a science fiction author. It's the first book in a planned space opera trilogy, "Aurora Rising."
Hi EveryoneI'm Samreen from Toronto, Canada. I am just an avid reader like all of the goodreads members.

Hi -- such a interesting conversation, I hope I can still join in! I'm the author of two self published books -- The Essence and my new one, Unexpected Impact (which is only available on smash words.com right now) I like to write books that combine action, humor and a bit of romance and love hearing about how other authors have evolved their writing styles.
Look forward to reading more posts!
Nancy

Hi. Among other things, I write for a living. (300+ published so far). I'm also an avid reader. Started when I was eight, when I plunged into books to escape my reality. Have thousands in my den, thousands more in two storage facilities. No, I never throw a book out. Anyway, greetings to everyone. :)
I have a penchant to write stories about ordinary people in extraordinary situations. Fiction allows me to explore concepts using characters, themes, and plot devices. My writing projects have included everything from short stories up to the novel format.
Long walks on the beach, art, movies, cafe conversations, good books, music and philosophising are also on my agenda. If you have a chance to read some of my writings, please feel free to leave some feedback.

Hello Beau
Hello Beau
I suppose it's about time I introduced myself. My name is Paul Martin, and I work tirelessly to help promote Indie authors. I created The Self-Publisher's Showcase to do just that, and so far the response has blown me away - 9 months in and we have over 210 authors showcasing their work with us. Anyway, this isn't a promotional piece, I just want to say "Hi" to you all and hope you're all having a great week.
My name is Ashley.I am 29 years old, and writing my first book. I am extremely excited about my story and my goal is to see it on the bookshelves of all major retail stores one day (fingers crossed)!
I enjoy reading any type of book, but my current obsession is anything fantasy or dystopian. Oddly enough though, my favorite author is Augusten Burroughs because he makes me laugh like no other.
I'm excited to join this group and will be looking forward to connecting with everyone!
Hello everyone! I'm Michelle Lynn.I am twenty-five and about to publish the second book in my young adult trilogy. I am a big believer in silver linings and the saying that everything happens for a reason. I've been sick most of my life but it has become disabling over the past two years. I couldn't get out of bed many days and the depression started to take hold because I always felt so sick. I started writing just to have something to do and it changed everything for me. I now had something to work towards because feeling useless is the worst thing. I became happier than even before my disability. My entire life, I had never been truly passionate about something before. What an amazing feeling.
Good morning Courtney, Ashley and Michelle.Michelle, writing does help. Getting out of bed on a dark day is a little easier if you have something you really want to do.
Hi, I'm Jack, Blimprider to a lot of folks. I write light steampunk (imagine that Jules Verne had written Firefly), and read anything that promises some excitement. All I ask is that it put something into my life that I can't get on my own. Bring on the fantasy, sci-fi, history, and adventure!
Hi Jack. Steampunk isn't a genre I'm familiar with, is it anything like Dr. Arliss Loveless's inventions in the movie Wild Wild West (1999)?

Quite a bit. Jules Verne wrote of a world of his future that was powered by steam, because that was all the technology his world had. Had he been right, and electricity never proven a successful power source, the world of today would look very different. I tried to write a definition of the genre here: http://www.writing.com/main/view_item.... If that piques your interest, I recommend a visit to http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/. There you'll find builders, gamers, artists, costumers, oh and writers, mustn't forget writers. It's a genre that will grab you or it won't; it isn't for everyone, but everyone should take a look at it.

Hi, All!I am John Burnett, live in a suburb of Detroit, am an English professor and I am about to have my first novel, The Boogerman, published in July. It's an urban thriller, and here is a teaser:
The Boogerman is a very scary guy.
Even he will admit this, but he also explains several centuries worth of terrifying urban mythology surrounding him as his simply being “tragically misunderstood.” In The Boogerman, an urban fantasy for middle-grade to young adult readers, he finally decides to become more proactive in rehabilitating his horrible image. The magical chaos that ensues, with the forces of light and darkness openly waging war in the streets of Detroit, changes everything.
The title character enters into an uneasy partnership with Stetson Oliver, an average 12-year-old African-American schoolboy who remembers all too well the night terrors and secret trauma the Boogerman inflicted on him in the very recent past. Resentment, skepticism, and a healthy dose of fear colors Stetson’s every conversation and interaction with his mysterious visitor, whose murky explanation for why he chose Stetson to tell his story—and the incredible consequences that result--leaves a great deal to be desired.
Their tenuous alliance established, Stetson and the Boogerman embark on a fantastic adventure fraught with danger and discovery, and charged with magic. It is an odyssey that could end very badly for both the human boy and the ageless urban myth.
The Boogerman, slated for publication by illusio & baqer books on July 3, 2014, is the first book in a trilogy. Visit me at johnburnettjr.com for more about me and the book.
Howdy! My name is Matt Davenport and I'm a 5 time self-published author in the fantasy and horror genres. I've been writing my whole life and trying to get published almost as long. I write what entertains me, so my horror is Lovecraftian in slant (so far) while my fantasy has a very Neil Gaiman or Douglas Adams take to it. I'm an Iowa author and a former archaeologist, so I've been around. I'm always looking to touch base with my fans. Feel free to reach out to me. My blog is http://davenportwrites.com .
HI :) I'm Kelly. I write YA novels. I read YA novels and historical and inspy and dystopian (I don't just like one thing). I'm so happy to be in this group :)

Hi! I write a mystery series set in the wine districts of France. The first was CHAMPAGNE: The Farewell, and the second, BORDEAUX: The Bitter Finish, will be released on April 1st by Poisoned Pen Press. I launched BORDEAUX at Book Passage in San Francisco, and am giving readings in LA, San Diego, Phoenix and Denver before heading back East. You won't find a more enthusiastic writer and reader! Thank you, Janet Hubbard
HiI'm James Hayman. I'm the author of three thrillers set in Maine. The first two, The Cutting and The Chill of Night were published by St. Martin's Minotaur. Number three Darkness First was published by Harper Collins new ebook first imprint Witness Impulse. Darkness First has been doing well and made the USA Today national bestseller list.
Hi all. Just a reader, I'm afraid, but i enjoy reading a diverse spectrum of different genres, so i'm sure i will contribute regardless. I belong to a couple of groups on Goodreads, but wanted to join a group interested in general fiction, so here i am.
Darkness First was just released in mass market paperback. Available at Amazon and B&N. If your local library or indie bookseller doesn't have copies yet tell them they can order from Ingram. Readers sure seem to like it. 116 reader reviews so far on Amazon with 86 five star and 25 4 star. can't complain about that.
