Taylor L Scheid (TaylorLScheid) | 1 comments Hi all!

I'm Taylor and I like writing. :) Scifi and horror are my favorites. The more robots, the better. I'm about to publish my first novel, a romance-free creature feature called "Vorator."

I'm working on the sequel right now, or I would be if I weren't laid up with the flu. My toddler is trying to make me feel better by covering my face with Christmas stickers. I think it's working!

Glad to be here. Excited to make some friends!

Laura Jardine (laurajardine) | 8 comments Hi everyone! I'm Laura, and I started writing in 2010. I write contemporary romance, and my first book was published by Liquid Silver Books at the beginning of the month. I've also written women's fiction in the past, though probably none of it will see the light of day.

John Burnett | 11 comments Hi, Everyone:

I'm John Burnett, author and English professor from Detroit, Michigan. My book, The Boogerman, is due out on July 3, 2014. Here's a teaser:

"The Boogerman is a very scary guy.

Even he will admit this, but he also explains several centuries worth of terrifying urban mythology surrounding him as his simply being “tragically misunderstood.” In The Boogerman, an urban fantasy for middle-grade to young adult readers, he finally decides to become more proactive in rehabilitating his horrible image. The magical chaos that ensues, with the forces of light and darkness openly waging war in the streets of Detroit, changes everything.
The title character enters into an uneasy partnership with Stetson Oliver, an average 12-year-old African-American schoolboy who remembers all too well the night terrors and secret trauma the Boogerman inflicted on him in the very recent past. Resentment, skepticism, and a healthy dose of fear colors Stetson’s every conversation and interaction with his mysterious visitor, whose murky explanation for why he chose Stetson to tell his story—and the incredible consequences that result--leaves a great deal to be desired.

Their tenuous alliance established, Stetson and the Boogerman embark on a fantastic adventure fraught with danger and discovery, and charged with magic. It is an odyssey that could end very badly for both the human boy and the ageless urban myth."

Again, The Boogerman is slated for publication by illusio & baqer books on July 3, 2014, and it is the first book in a trilogy. Visit me at johnburnettjr.com for more.

PACIFIC BEACH
available @ amazon.com

Sheldon Gates has a college education, two loving parents, and enough friends to fill the ocean outside his run-down apartment. Why, then, does he wake up with a throbbing headache, mouth full of sand, black eye, and an empty bag of cocaine in his pocket?

PACIFIC BEACH is a coming of age, beach bum tale; a brutally honest portrayal of reckless young adulthood in a town fraught with debauchery.

Kendal Waller (kendalwaller) | 5 comments Hello everyone! My name is Kendal Waller I am a self published author of two books, a third currently at the editors, and approximately five more in the works.

I love to read but I was born to write. Often, I wake up with something that has to be written down swimming through my mind, continuously resurfacing begging me to give it a chance to breathe.

I've only had mild success so far with my first book, Moving On, which was self edited and a huge learning curve. I intend to go back and have this edited professionally and re-release. My second book, Trip & Fall has also had mild success but I'm not disappointed. With the millions of books available any success makes me challenged to work harder, learn more, and do better. I'm confident the right person will read my work one day.

My books are found in the Contemporary Fiction, Romance genre the all have twists, turns, angst, and fun; with hopefully a message hidden in there somewhere.

I'm happy to have found this group and hope to learn a lot and find a bunch more goodreads.

message 6812: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Fender (stephenfender) | 20 comments Hello all! I'm Stephen, 38, from the Seattle. Currently I work as a software developer and IT guru, but my real passion is to write.

I spent about 12 years as an automotive mechanic, but it just got too hard on my body. I wanted to get out while I was still mobile, and transitioned to computers (which had always been a hobby of mine).

I love planes, and consider myself a big wing-nut. What's strange about this is that I have a deep fear of flying.

I REALLY love to write. I started back in '99 with my first book (a fanfic) and have since transitioned to my own work. I try to write for at least 30 minutes a day, which is easy to do since I have to take a ferry to and from work. On a good, creative day, I can commit 1500-1800 words towards my work.

I'm currently working on Book #4 of the Kestrel Saga (all of which can be found on Amazon). I also started an off-shoot of the series, the first of which I published just this month, called Origins: Traitor Winds. I published under my own company, JRP, which I established in 2012.

I've got a number of other books in the works, some sci-fi, some historical fiction, but they are all adventures. It's going to keep me busy for the next few years, and I hope it keeps you busy reading my work.

I'd love to get to know my readers better. I'm an open book, and I love taking questions. Feel free to drop me a line on GR, Twitter, or my blog.

Cheers!

Ronin (trishaalindsey) | 17 comments Hello! Glad I landed here! I love reading and writing reviews. I write good reviews for good or even great, books. I contact authors to find out the backstory when I read any Book I would give 4 STARS or below. I read most genres, but prefer, urban/contemporary/interracial romance, paranormal, sci-fi, thrillers, suspense, and historical romance.

I am disabled, I speak my books into existence, with speech to text software. I write across genres, as I have a variety of writers with stories inside. I write in 5 Book Series formats, although the Series I just began has an ambitious 13 books planned, with 13 changing characters, but one thread that is woven throughout, with the Major character, Sleepy. I make up my own covers, as I integrate the cover as the story unfolds. I have been writing since I was 13, and have been published traditionally. I prefer the control of EBooks. I began reading at 3 1/2, and used to read Dictionaries and Encyclopedias for fun! Feel free to check out my books.I also write under the pseudonym Ronin Schtihl Daire. Here is a link to my books, they are exclusive to Amazon.com I am currently writing a bridge book between my Sci Fi thriller Sleeping Lizards Book 1: Somnolent Chameleon and what will be a Book 6 in my Thin Line - Josef and Blair Series. They are different genres, but I am going to make it work! http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...

Hock Tjoa (hockgtjoa) | 65 comments Hi all,

I am looking for advice regarding revisions though I don't know if this is the appropriate Group or thread. Please feel free to PM me with any advice.

Question--it is so easy with Print on Demand and ebook publishing to revise one's novel (or non-fiction book) should one do so without re-publishing it. What is involved?

message 6824: by Melony (new)

Melony Boseley Hi, everybody! My name is Melony Boseley, and I am a self-published author. I have been writing on and off for twenty years, but my first novel has only just been published via Kindle. I am working on the sequel now, but I also work full-time, unfortunately, and spare time does not seem to happen too much. I would love to one day just be able to write full-time, but until that day comes, I will keep plodding along like the rest of us. :)

message 6826: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) | 165 comments Hello Everyone,

I am Alice and I'm from Vancouver, Canada. I'm so glad that I've found this group! I am fairly new to Goodreads (only joined last month) and am still feeling my way around :-)

I am the author of a non-fiction book "Land and the Ruling Class in Hong Kong". Originally it was a self-published book (2005), and it was rated as Editor's Choice: Scholarly by Canadian Book Review Annual in 2007. Then in 2010 it became a huge bestseller in Hong Kong and Mainland China when a publisher published it in Chinese. In 2011 the Chinese version won the 4th Year Hong Kong Book Prize.

I finished writing my debut novel "Fated and Fateless" in 2012 and spent the following year trying to find a traditional publisher, but, you guessed it, without success. One well-known U.K. publisher's feedback was that my novel was well written but owing to the dire situation in the fiction market, they weren't sure that it would prove profitable for them. So I decided to take the Kindle/CreateSpace route of self-publishing.

As of last month, both the Kindle version and Paperback version have been available from Amazon Worldwide (for Kindle) and from Amazon U.S. and Europe (for Paperback). Here's the link to Amazon's Product Page: http://www.amazon.com/Fated-Fateless-...

The novel has been listed as a giveaway on Goodreads and ENTRY IS CLOSING AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT!

It is a story of love, corruption and wanton lust for money set in colonial Hong Kong (where I was born and grew up) spanning four decades from the 1950s, told through the contrasting life journeys of two female characters.

To read an excerpt of the novel, kindly visit my Goodreads blog, or my personal blog: http://alicewaihanpoon.blogspot.ca

I spent a good portion of my adult life working for a living in the property development sector. But at no time did I ever give up on the dream of my high school days, and that dream was to become a writer.

I sincerely hope to connect with all of you!

Cheers,
Alice

Bisi Abiola (httpwwwgoodreadscombisiabiola) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Bisi Abiola. My new book 'Waving in the Wind' is a collection of eighteen true-life stories about the lives, loves, lusts, and losses of people in places as far apart and as disparate as Lagos and London. These are narratives of people confronted with complicated choices as they grapple with the realities of life in these often bewildering times. Whether set in Aberdeen or Ibadan, these heartfelt stories detail conflicts both internal and external that would speak to and inspire anyone who has ever had to make a difficult decision, lost someone dear, or have to face the consequences of choices made without reckoning with what tomorrow may bring.
