Hi Christopher, I'm new to all this too. So far, I've had fun posting to and exploring the creative writing section. There are some great writers out there and you can search by genre.

Catherine Herzog | 15 comments So I've been on GoodReads forever, but just now have the time to actually get into it! I'm completely new to this, so please be gentle!

I'm Catherine Herzog (friends call me Cat) and I wrote "The Key to Her Heart", a romantic-suspense novel. It was self-published last November, but I'm touring a little bit this year! I actually just had my first signing last Saturday and, though small, it was exhilarating to meet new people and hear thoughts from some who have read my book. I live in northeastern Iowa and have four kids (two out of the house) and two grandkids who are 19 days apart in age., as well as two cats and a wonderful husband, Todd.

Anyway, my book is available at Amazon, Kindle, Nook, and Kobo, or if you live in Mason City, it's for sale at the Book World there. The Key to Her Heart is actually only the first in the Heart of a Family series. I'm currently working on the second book and hoping to self publish on the first anniversary of my first book, but we shall see! The Key to Her Heart by Catherine Herzog

Andrew Yorke (AndrewYorke) | 3 comments Hey everyone,

My name is Andrew Yorke and I have been writing off and on since I was a child. Over the last couple of years, I have been working with an indie publishing house to put a few of my works out there. It's been a blast, and my latest novella Runaway Empire is something I hold pretty dear. A portion of the net proceeds are going to the non-profit Sandy Hook Promise. It deals with a group of individuals in the immediate wake of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, CT.

I'm glad to be joining up with this group on Goodreads. Let us all enjoy the beauty of literature!

All the best,
Andrew

Mary Simmons | 8 comments Greetings from Tennessee. I am an muse to a fantasy writer. I promote him and learn as much as I can about the art of publishing these book series. Your search has ended. Moonwarriors is the very best Vampire and werewolf series on the market. You may be interested in a writer, which is on facebook/goodreads and he is very down to Earth kind of man. Send him a friend request to Rusty Nugent and you can like Author Rusty Nugent group. Take it easy and let me know if you like Rusty's book series. You get many transformations of heroic werewolves vs evil vampires, and many battles between the both of them. There is a lot of blood and guts. The books are Dark Fantasy with Horror and Romance elements. Thank you for your support. Lets become friends, send me a friend request.

Michael Wilton (michaelroll) | 19 comments Hi, I'm Mike Wilton, retired but still active. I have three books waiting for a generous reader to spare the time to offer a review. The first is called 'Save Our Shop', a romantic comedy, with a farcical slant, following the on/off romance of William Bridges, hopelessly in love with Sally, despite formidable opposition from her step mother, Lady Constance. In desperation Williams seeks help from his uncle Neil who on the run from the police, disguises himself as his Aunt Isobel...The other two are children's books - one an adventure story on another planet; and an animal battle against the dreaded brown rats, headed by the evil King Freddie.

Barb (bubasbookshelf) Hi everyone :)
I'm 14 years old, from Croatia. If you don't mind, will use 'Luna Phellan' pseudonym here. I'm not comfortable with sharing my real name around until it's really needed.
I write since I was 11 and a half, and am currently working on first book in series Pepeo i Vrijeme(Ash and Time).
I am also passionate reader, although I don't really have much money to afford books so I'm limited to school library.
Looking forward to meeting new people :)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) My name is Beau. Long time reader, first time...... no, wait, that's a different thread.

I enjoy reading, mostly horror, paranormal, sci-fi and warped humor.

After many years of being told that I should put my overactive imagination to good use, I finally took this advice to heart, and wrote my first book, Sleep With One Eye Open.

I'm sure I've bored you all enough for now. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Michael Wilton (michaelroll) | 19 comments Hi everyone. I'm not sure who I should be aiming my stories at, but my greatest pleasure is in writing romantic comedy. I'd be more than happy to let anyone have a copy to get their views, as I am already stuck into a sequel of my book called "Save Our Shop", and would be interested to know how any of you go about writing - do you keep a notebook by your bed, for instance - what creates the spark that sets you off?
Sorry, I should introduce myself. Details on my website:www.michaelwilton.co.uk.

message 6730: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Hi Michael.

I used to keep a notebook by the bed, but I kept using it instead of sleeping.

message 6731: by Michael (new)

Michael Wilton (michaelroll) | 19 comments Yes, and of course it helps if you can understand your own writing next morning - I'm so used to relying on a keyboard.

message 6732: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Yeah, the perils of sleep writing, usually done in the dark.

Thought at the time: This is gold, I can't wait until morning.

Reality, next morning: What is this drivel?

Vickie Pettee (vickiepettee) | 10 comments Hi to all,

I'm an avid reader of mystery, thrillers and international intrigue. I'm a retired, world-traveled, ambitiously lazy being who has written 2 mysteries (adult and middle-grader)

I’m always thrilled to recognize a locale in a novel as something more than a clichéd depiction from a postcard. I strive to bring that sentiment to my settings.

I'm old enough to have spent many hours in the public library as a kid - some weeks checking out as many as 13 books! was an early adopter of the kindle because it lessened the luggage I had to carry on my far-away vacations.

Deborah Stevens (andrucc12) | 14 comments Ciao Everyone, Trying to teach myself all about Goodreads and discovered this page! My Debut Novel "THE SERPENT'S DISCIPLE" a historical suspense thriller was released last September and I am very excited to say I have reached a stepping stone of selling more then 1000 books to date. The readers and writing community has been wonderful. My agent in Rome is headed to the London Book Fair in April and excited to see what she will accomplish there with promoting my book and presenting the sequel that I am slavishly working on. For a peek at the trailer and more about the book, please go to www.deborahstevensauthor.com

Al "Tank" (alkalar) | 280 comments Howdy.

Al Kalar here. I found this delightful group quite by accident.

About me:

I'm a moderator for another group on GoodReads.

I work for a publisher as an editor (and "other duties as assigned", like janitor).

I write under a pen name (to avoid taking responsibility).

I read, mostly science fiction, as often as I can manage (after reading other stuff all day long on my job).

Sooooo, this looks like a good place for me to be. Thanks for allowing me although I'm not sure I want to be part of a club that would allow me as a member (with apologies to W. C. Fields).

My name is Johanna -- I'm a tv writer / comedian / forward / slash / abuser with my first book coming out in April ("How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane (& Other Lessons in Parenting From a Highly Questionable Source)").

I'm pretty new to Goodreads and am amazed, inspired and downright awed at the range of people posting here -- I gotta say, I have definitely found my new procrastination source.

For more information about me, my book, and my frequent shenanigans, feel free to check out my website: www.johannastein.com.

Looking very forward to feeling and finding my way around here!

Susan (susankroupa) | 4 comments Hi. Just discovered this group. I'm a dog lover, amateur photographer, and author. I've had my short fiction published in a variety of science fiction and fantasy magazines and anthologies. I currently have a mystery series out in paper and ebook--I'll post links over in the appropriate category--and have republished most of my stories as ebooks. You can find all my books and more than you probably want to know about me over at http://www.susankroupa.com.

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Cphe: "I've met some wonderful self published authors during my time on Amazon."

It's glad to hear you say that. I ran into a guy a few weeks ago (a complete stranger, in a waiting room) who was reading a book that I had read. So to kill some time, I struck up a conversation with him about the book and what he though of it.

That discussion had gone as far as it could (without me giving away the ending, so I asked him about what he wanted to read next. His reply was blew me away. "I'd never read any of that self-published rubbish. It's just poorly written trash, full of spelling mistakes". I asked him what titles he'd read to give him such a poor opinion of self-published authors.

He replied "Oh, I've never actually read any of them. I just know they're no good because if they were, they'd have been published by a proper publisher".

He had never read a self published book, but just knew they'd be crap.

Wow!

Rather than correct him, I excused myself on the pretense of having to reply to an email.
