Nenia Campbell (neniacampbell) Hi! I'm Nenia Campbell. I'm a Goodreads author (and right now I feel like I'm in one of those support groups). I have ten books published with another soon on the way and I love reading. I also love my readers. And I hope to love this group!

Michael Selden | 12 comments Vincent wrote: "Please introduce yourself! Do you write books? Do you just enjoy reading them?

Let us know a little bit more about who you are:"

Michael Selden. I published The Boy Who Ran (MG) in November and am working on a revision of a book entitled THE BALANCE (YA) due this fall.

Currently, I'm in Rome for 10 weeks researching yet another book for 2016, a supernatural thriller called DISOBEDIENCE, however I live in Woodland Park Colorado.

I like to read and I like to write. I a voracious reader of all genres, anything good. I generally stay away from the nth volume of a cookie cutter book, although even some of the first and second volumes are very good and I read those too.

Just as I read everything, I also write everything and don't like to repeat. All that said, THE BALANCE will probably (eventually) have 3 volumes, but its really just one story—but too long for one book. I plan to write other books in between the 3 parts to that story.

My favorite American author was John Steinbeck, but there are a number of close seconds and a number of non US authors I like.

Sometimes I read much more than write, when that happens I tend to read a book per day, my typical speed is a page a minute, so that equates to about 6 hours / day—consistent with my 3 to 6 hour typical writing schedule. Eventually, I'll add all the books I've read to the collection of "my books" but, honestly, it would take a while to remember and to add.

Michael | 29 comments Michael-I admire Steinbeck, too. When I moved to California, it was like stepping right into one of his novels. Have you ever been to Salinas and gone to his house and the Steinbeck museum there?

Unfortunately no. I used to go to California on business—usually Livermore or San Jose, but never made it to Salinas. Now that I'm free to do as I like, I may find the time.

I'll bet the coast is nice. Maybe a motorcycle trip there would be good?

Demar . (demarsagas) | 17 comments Hello 6,949 and counting,

I'm still shy to represent myself as an author, but I do like to write and recently self-published my first; ''The Will and the Forest''.
some text

It's a children's fantasy but with just enough charm and wit to please most ages I think. When I posted it on amazon I had expected to feel somehwat elated but was surprised to feel something more akin to 'nervous vomitous thrashings'. Can anybody relate?

Well, as a new author I am in dire need of reviews, love, acceptance etc. etc. but for now I have contented myself to begin writing the 2nd episode of The Will Sagas.

Consider checking the link to my book, and until I meet you at on the bestseller lists, good writing.

Yes, I remember Mark Twain's comment about the weather there.

Cold doesn't really bother me so much as long as I can escape it or dress appropriately, it's why I'm comfortable in my house at 8500 ft. in the mountains of Colorado. Humid heat, on the other hand, is more difficult and it comes with mosquitos. Still, I was born in Florida, so I SHOULD like it.

I just published my novelette the Alundra File on Amazon, but it is only the first step in a much bigger dream to be trade published. But first, I have to build up some courage. I am revising my novel, and intend to begin the query process in the Spring.
I read almost anything. My novelette is horror, but my novels are fantasy.
You can find me lurking on my blog.
And I'm out of things to say. :)

I have been writing since February 2010, after being inspired by Stephenie Meyer. My youngest had just turned 1 and I needed to use my brain and challenge myself.

Well, I started writing for FUN - little did I know where that would take me!

Roll on 4 years...

I have published a Trilogy, short stories to raise money for charity, use social media way too much, and have made amazing friends along the way.

I love reading a good book, and currently have my teeth set into Philomena by Martin Sixsmith - it is sure to make me cry...

Anyway, please say hello either on Goodreads, my blog (www.vanessawesterwriterblogspot.com) or Twitter (www.twitter.com/vanessa_wester)

Look forward to your posts :)

Clive Anthony (cliveanthony) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Clive Anthony and I have just added my new fantasy novel Wildmind, details here - wildmind:
Wildmind cover image
An epic fantasy packed with intriguing characters and rich with action.

Everyone knows that people using the ancient magic of the mind will go mad, lose control, and kill themselves along with anyone near them. That’s why they’re called wildminds. That’s why they’re hunted and burned in public.

So how is it that the primitive dog-breeding tribes, the Dogmen, are able to use their wildminds to help them in a highly improbable invasion? Attacking the mighty Empire of Searleddon, they magically control huge wolfhounds, deflect arrows, and even seize control of their enemies’ minds, without going wild.

Two men are pivotal in the defence of the Empire, though they could hardly be more different. Varik Tojen is the heroic soldier with exceptional sword-fighting skills and a troubled personal history. Mal Respler is the timid functionary, cynical about his role directing the persecution of wildminds. One leads from the front while the other trembles in the background. Yet both shape world-changing events, and both have their own worlds turned inside out.

Countess Wayfender and Lae Kinimirra are two women from opposite ends of the social classes, yet they work together in a rebellious cabal. They uncover political and religious intrigues suggesting that the Dogmen have had help from inside the Empire.

While the power games play out, people will die. Dogmen soldiers rampage through the land, led by wildminds with their fierce wolfhounds.

Elie Nakouzi | 2 comments Elie Nakouzi

Hi,

I was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and raised amidst a crazy civil war between Christians and Muslims that split my country into 2, 3, or perhaps 17 countries. We just stopped counting!

Through my 25 years of journalism in the Middle East (before emigrating with my family to America in 2011), I have witnessed a lot. A lot of violence, madness, anger, and hypocrisy-which is a war in itself.

Since my early childhood, I had questions; questions about Muslims, Christians, and of course, Jews. I simply fell in love with question marks, and ended up choosing a career that’s not really the best choice, if you’re living in the Middle East. Truths there are more brutal than cancer!

There’s something else I hugely fell in love with while I was growing up: America. From my first Levi Jeans that my mother bought me, to Al Pacino, to John Travolta that we competed to replicate his dance moves, to Twain and Hemingway, and the love story still goes on. However, I early realized that perhaps there are 2 Americas; the one that makes us dream, and the one that kills, unintentionally I believe, our dreams.

I have bluntly embraced the American values since my first job in the radio. And quickly, I was accused of being a collaborator, an infidel, and an agent. I truly was not; I simply was pro American, from head to toes. I still am.

I recently published the first book, "Brotherly Enemies" of the "Memoirs of a Pro American" trilogy.

I try to take the reader on a ‘crazy’ journey that starts in a little town in Beirut and ends here, in the USA, the land of my dreams. I hope my true story presents another perspective of what people watch in the news. Perhaps, if the Western world knew better the circumstances we live in, it would better understand why we, Arabs, stopped making sense, a long time ago.

Hi everyone, it's great to find somewhere like this where we can all connect. My name is Christopher and I am a writer (that sounds like an AA introduction).

I am busy adding the final touches to my first novella, which I hope to self-publish in the next two months, it's called 'Ralph and the Purple Fly'.

If anyone would like to follow me and my progress as a writer just starting out please feel free to follow me on Twitter at @CJBWriter

I love sci-fi novels, literary fiction, historical fiction and fantasy along with almost all the classics (particularly Russian literature). So if anyone has a recommendation then I would love to hear it. While I'm here, I am currently reading the Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky (an extremely long and wonderful book), which I would recommend.

Also, I am extremely new to Goodreads so if anyone has anywhere fun to direct me then please point-away!

All the best :-)

Salem Archer | 7 comments Hello fellow community members. My name is Salem Archer. I live in a small North Carolina town with my wonderful husband and one totally spoiled little dog, and, like everybody else, I’m trying to get published. I would rather not say what I do for a living. (I have a feeling I may lose my day job if they find out I’m writing contemporary romance novels—gotta love living in the Bible Belt!) Despite the risk, I can no longer ignore the urge to get my work out there. It’s sort of like some of the Baptist preachers around here—I’ve been moved by the spirit and called to write.

For most of my adult life, writing has been a therapeutic star to which I hitched my jacked-up wagon. Thoughts and feelings and ideas have found themselves quickly jotted down on napkins and scraps of paper only to be lost forever in the deep abyss that is my handbag. But not anymore. I think I finally realized I ain’t gettin' any younger. Besides, my handbag is full, so I’m doing it! Over the past ten months, I’ve completed and revised my first novel, Moondance in Red, and I’m starting the second installment in what I hope will be the Moondance Trillogy.

I’ve entered Moondance in Red in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition. I felt like it was ready, but I certainly still welcome any feedback I can get (on the writing and on my cover design). The first two chapters are posted in the creative writing section here at goodreads (the cover image below is a quick link). (This is so cool! I’m starting to feel like an honest to goodness, bona fide author. Thanks to goodreads for providing an outlet for us newbies.)
