Hello, my name is Diana Hart and I am a fantasy writer/reader. I am new to good reads and am dipping my toe into the vast ocean of forums on here. It's daunting but all the posts I've seen in this group seem so welcoming. Here's hoping to many fun and fruitful discourses.Since it seems everyone is sharing some self promotion here I will (meekly) talk about my own work. Currently I only have one short story, Wood and Whispers, self published. I also have a novel in the agent query stage. I'm polishing another short story for entry in L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Contest and finishing work on a novella for self publishing.
My works are inspired by trends in global mythologies, the heaviest influence of which is pre-christian Russian lore and some Norse.
And now to slip away, slightly embarrassed. Good reading to everyone!
Hi! I am Ankur Ashta and I am a marketing professional, currently working with one of the leading automobile manufacturers in the world.I received a bachelors degree in computer science and engineering in 2002 and I also hold an M.B.A (2006) in marketing and operations.
I have recently written a book, Heart, Mind & Wallet: Decoding the consumers' needs to create winning stories.
This book is about consumer insights and how certain thought-leaders have used them to script winning stories in terms of creating strong brands and brand campaigns.
Anybody interested to know about marketing products in India would find this book extremely helpful and engaging.
The book is supposed to get launched on 25th Feb 2014.
Please reach me in case you want to know more about the book.
I have already set up a small quiz on the book. You can attempt the quiz at
http://www.goodreads.com/quizzes/3370...
You can get some insights on the book through this quiz.
Would love to hear from you. Thanks.
Hi Everyone! My name's Chris Marsh. I live in London, England and am just about to have my first children's picture book, Zips Goes Wandering, published.
Zips is about a small zebra who, despite his mother's warnings, wanders off for an adventure by himself. He soon finds himself in a spot of bother when he has a close encounter with a lion and crocodile but escapes, only to find that he's lost. By asking his friends he criss crosses the savanah trying to find his family which he eventually does.
The story aims to teach children not to wander off alone and what to do if they get lost. Having created the story as a way of teaching my nieces and nephews I also wanted the book to be a spark of conversation between parents/guardians and young children on the subject of getting lost.
Zips Goes Wandering is available for iPads at https://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/zips... or you can join the Savannah Friends facebook group for more info and fun! Otherwise keep your eyes out for the release next month on Amazon!
I hope you enjoy!
Chris
Hello,I'm Marian York and I'm from Texas, though I flit between there and Alberta, Canada. I'm 24 and I'm recently published. My series is urban fantasy and the first book in it (the only one out) is called Factions: Coup d'Etat.
I'll post more about it in the appropriate forum as I assume this is not the proper place for self promotion.
Hopefully I'll be able to meet many of y'all and have a good time here. ^^

Hi! My name is Nicoline Evans and I am a fantasy author. I recently published my debut novel. It is titled "Haemans" and it is a dark fantasy novel set in Russia. (Could also be classified as urban fantasy or dystopian). When descendants of the lost royals are discovered, they are thrust into the spotlight. They use their power to corrupt the population, turning those who succumb to their addiction into freakishly strong and morally unhinged individuals. These addicts are known as haemans. Those who escape this terrifying new culture must live hidden in the forested outskirts, far away from the danger that now engulfs the cities. HAEMANS follows the tragic love story between one escapee and one haeman. For a full book description, follow this link! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

If you decide to read it, let me know! I'd love to make some friends on here and get some reviews! Thanks!

Hello....I am new here. I have a contemporary romance out this month and so glad to see some have liked it or rated it on Good Reads. However, I have a more detailed description than Good Reads runs. How would I get this description into the right person's hands who updates this?
Thank you so much. I will paste it in below if the right person should see it -- it also tells a bit about the book.
What must you let go to find true love?
When Maren Mitchell lost her husband, she felt adrift in choppy waters. She adjusts course as she’s not one to ever act quickly.
The handsome, decisive surgeon Steve Kramer devoted decades to advancing his medical career, but his personal life sailed past him...until Maren corners his curiosity. He encourages her to become a co-worker, but will she become more?
The intensity that fills Steve’s days drives Maren to anxious uncertainty. He's nothing like she's used to, making her quiver all right...as his impassioned first mate on his boat and as a skeptical observer off of it.
Will a left-brained, logical man and a creative, cautious woman get tangled in their differences and past hurts...or surrender what they must to live fuller lives and forge a future together, especially through regional terror and personal panic?
“I couldn’t put LETTING GO down. The characters are realistic and the depiction of the Chesapeake and the historical events right on target. I found how the main character overcame internal struggles was very uplifting. A great read!”
“Well-developed, authentic characters come to life in the novel LETTING GO: The Maryland Shores. Nautical imagery, football rivalries, and a very real picture of parenthood—plus some sexy moments—make it a page-turner.”
Lauren Monroe is a Maryland-based novelist. A native of Western Pennsylvania, she has resided in various parts of Maryland, including the eastern shore.

Hello Goodreads readers,Shameless plug about to ensue:
After an occupational lifetime spent growing plants for people on their property, I have heard one common refrain. It goes something like this:
"I'd like to see blooms, color and interest on my property from early spring until frost."
The people have spoken.
The book "A Symphony of Color" http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...
poetically describes blooming plants and their seasons as if it were a yearlong symphony.
The book goes on to detail what will enhance a homeowner's "Symphony of Color" and what will detract from it.
These are plants that, in my 40-plus-years of experience, grow well on people's properties throughout the year.
This is a homeowner's first step in ultimately achieving their goal: color and interest on their property from early spring until Jack Frost and yes, there is even some "winter interest" plant suggestions.
You can find it on Amazon for your kindle for $7.99.
I've also written a couple of other things that can be found under my name, but the above has a lifetime of effort put into it.
And well, it is nice to think that I can finally get this in front of some people who might be interested in it.
If plants are not your thing, check out my bookshelf.

Hello Vincent, I'm fairly new to Goodreads and found this group by chance. I'm sure I'll soon feel at home here.I'm Pearl A Gardner, author of several self published books, including The Scent of Bluebells, a Second World War romance, and a two book series, They Take Our Children, about alien abduction.
My author list is wide ranging and eclectic, because I'm like a butterfly and can't decide what I like to write about most. So I write about topics that are closest to my heart at the time of writing them.
I'm looking forward to making new friends here, and participating in the discussions.

New to Good Reads. While under a professional name, I have background in non-fiction, here is my new novel in time this week for Valentine's! It's a contemporary romance/women's fiction....What must you let go to find true love?

Hello, my name is Eric Olson and it's my pleasure to make my debut here with you all. I am excited to engage with other fans of Historical Fiction, Sci-Fi, Graphic Novels and Fantasy. My new book, Dance of the Berserkers is the result of 2 years of research. Although it is Historical Fiction/Fantasy, I took extra effort to get the details as accurate as possible. I have always been a fan of heroes and warriors. This is the first of a series of sagas. In Dance of the Berserkers, I am actually discovering the story as I dig through the archaeological data of the Vikings, the Varangian Guard, and the other real and mythological entities I am researching. I feel more like Indiana Jones sometimes than a guy writing a Historical Fiction novel. I look forward to the back-and -forth with other authors and readers. Dance of the Berserkers
Hi all. I'm Russell Jones, author, editor, musician, programmer, former zookeeper, and current gym rat. My first novel, "Rabbit's Foot" (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HZMFHOU/) is available now. Here's a description:***
Tom Meacham is a lost soul. Once a successful author of crime thrillers, Tom's luck has run out. Depressed, unable to write, and desperate for a second chance at success, he moves to Las Vegas, hoping a radical change will help him start over. By chance, he meets Bethany Belsen, a girl with an incredible talent: she's a living lucky charm who tilts the odds in favor of anyone nearby.
Tom realizes Bethany's gift can transform his life beyond imagining. But other people are hunting Bethany too, and will do anything to get control of her and her luck.
How far would you go for a rabbit's foot that really works?
***
I'm currently working on a second novel--a detective novel this time, which should be complete within a couple of months.
Nice to meet you all.
Russell
Hello. My name is Stan. I am 42 from the US (Michigan for those who are curious) I have written much through my life from poetry, essays, screenplays and have taken my first crack at long form prose. I have gotten up to 9k words on my latest story but as luck would have it, I lost the flash drive I kept it on. Luckily I found an older draft and recovered about 4k words of the story and currently sit at about 6500 words. I posted what I have so far on my profile and am open to any suggestions. Hope you all great success on your projects. Thanks.
Hi, I'm Karen Ann Hopkins and I'm the author of the YA Amish themed Temptation series, published by Harlequin Teen. The titles are: Temptation/Belonging/Forever. I curious to see how many readers out there are interested in the Amish? My series is about the love affair between an Amish boy and a non-Amish girl and the struggles they go through to be together. I lived in an Amish community for many years and wrote from experiential knowledge. The Amish always fascinated me. What about you?
HiI’m Terry Ravenscroft and I write humorous books.
In 1978, on the day I threw in my mundane factory job to become a television comedy scriptwriter, I was involved in a car accident which left me unable to turn my head. Since then I have never looked back.
Before they took me away I wrote scripts for Les Dawson, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Alas Smith and Jones, Not the Nine O’Clock News, Ken Dodd, Roy Hudd, and several others. I also wrote the award-winning BBC radio series Star Terk Two. When I stopped writing comedy scripts in 1995 I took to writing books. Up to now I have finished 15. (Although I can’t say if my readers have.)
Born in New Mills, Derbyshire, England in 1938, I still live there with my wife Delma and my mistress Divine Bottom (in my dreams).
My mother had a particularly long and difficult delivery, largely because she’d forgotten to take her tights off. I was an ugly baby, so ugly in fact that the midwife held me up and slapped me even though I was already crying. My parents decided to share equally the responsibility of bringing me up. However I proved to be a difficult baby, often throwing tantrums and crying for long spells, especially when it was my father's day for breast feeding me.
My family was so poor they couldn’t afford to buy me any clothes and I spent the first four years of my life naked, and unable to go out. Then they bought me a hat so I could look out of the window. Despite my deprived existence I prospered and at the age of five started my formal education.
I was a bright child at school as my mother had painted my head with luminous paint so she could pick me out easily when she came to collect me. A clever if highly strung boy I passed the eleven-plus at the age of nine, passed three GCEs at the age of eleven, and passed water in bed until the age of fourteen. Due to the latter, plus a south-facing window and the central heating being on all the time, there was usually a rainbow in my bedroom and this gave me an early interest in meteorology. To find out more about the subject I went to the local library and asked if they had a book on it but unfortunately the librarian thought I said ‘metallurgy’ and consequently I spent the next two years wondering what extracting metals from their ores had to do with the weather.
My education completed - in the girls toilet with the town bicycle - I began my first job when I took out articles at the law firm of Beckett and Hargreaves. The articles in question were a silver paper knife, a gold pen and the cash box from Becket and Hargreaves' safe. When I appeared in court the judge said, “I suppose you think that was funny?” I didn’t, but as the judge seemed to think it was I thought I’d take up writing humour for a living.
Good morning/afternoon/evening (delete those that do not apply)My name is Gary and I have recently released my first self-published novel called Tetra onto the world via Amazon and Waterstones.
I mostly want to get a feel for what other readers are reading as I am desperate to find that next 'Good Read' (puns) to tide me over while I pen the sequel to Tetra.
I am very eager to read self-published works in particular so please, guide and direct me to your very own novel and I will be sure to give it a look.
I like Young Adult fiction, Sci-Fi, Murder mysteries, thrillers and even some humour but I am happy to try and read anything fictional (except romance, sorry!)
I hope the day has been kind to you all and I look forward to speaking with you all properly soon!
Hi, everyone! My name is Jason Crawford (as you can tell by the tag next to this comment). I'm 32, have three kids, was born and (mostly) raised in Louisiana but now live in the Antelope Valley in California. I've written three novels and self-published two, and recently gave my book Chains of Prophecy a total overhaul.
Writing is...I don't know. It's amazing. It's genesis. It's the primal act of creation and I can't imagine doing anything else with my life, so I'm hoping to get to the point where I can support my family with it. I know, lofty hopes, but that's my goal.
Good luck to everyone! I hope that the muses treat you well.
Hello! I am Inna Swinton. My debut novel - The Many Loves of Milais now available. This book was inspired by Chekhov's short story "The Darling." I recently completed a Goodreads giveaway.
I am currently working on my second novel, the second in the Mila series.
I love to read and am usually reading a few books at a time - fiction and non-fiction. Especially love Russian classics :-) Currently reading Brene Brown's "Daring Greatly", Jennifer Egan's "A Visit from the Goon Squad", and Screamfree Parenting - all at the same time. I also am interested in all the latest research on habit formation (see my review of Daily Rituals here - on the habits of authors)
I look forward to connecting with other authors and readers here!

Hello Everyone! My name is Paddy Eger. Stories come to me like an itch; they refuse to leave until I promise to scratch around for their meaning and write them down. I'm a writer, author, teacher, speaker, trainer and world traveler. My debut YA novel, 84 ribbons, was recently published. It is the story of a young ballerina and her first steps into womanhood and onto the stage.
I'm excited to get to know other authors and readers and share in the creative process.
I am John McDonnell. I have written a dozen ebooks in various styles, but most recently I have written a series called "Rose Of Skibbereen" about an Irish immigrant girl who comes to America in the 1880s and falls in love with a scoundrel who treats her badly. Her life takes many twists and turns in the three books I've written so far. It's available on Amazon and Smashwords. John
*wave* I'm Dannielle. An aspiring author based in Vancouver, Canada. In the process of writing my first science fiction novel, TORCHWORLD, which I plan to release by the end of the year, I hope. It's going to be at least a 3 book series.
I'm also writing a series of short stories, based in the same world as my main project. They explore the background characters of the setting - and they may cross paths with my heroine at some point. :)
You can read my short stories here: http://torchofprometheus.com/
(As well as updates on the main book, quotes and assorted musings.)

Hi everyone,I am Lisa Firestone, a clinical psychologist and the Director of Research and Education at The Glendon Association and a Senior Editor at PsychAlive.org. I also published a number of books with Robert Firestone about relationships, sex and love, fear of intimacy etc. Check out my books if you are interested! :)
Hi--I live in the woods in Kentucky in a little solar-powered house my wife and I built with our own hands. I love being outside and doing the things that connect us in direct ways with our place, like making wine from our own apples, or cooking in a solar oven, or splitting firewood in the winter--but I also love being still. Reading and writing and (paradoxically) unicycling help me to be still, help me to avoid all the rushing in the world, and help me to notice the world. I write and read and unicycle to help me feel alive on this planet. I am the author of Slowspoke: A Unicyclist's Guide to America, and I'm currently working on a novel. Mark Schimmoeller

The first two books in the series, The Cutting and The Chill of Night, were published in 2009 and 2010 by St. Martin's Press. My third, titled Darkness First, came out October 1, 2013 as the lead title from Harper Collins' new ebook first imprint Witness Impulse. Hello,My name is Nan McAdam and I hail from Iowa, which for all of you who might ask "Is that where they raise potatoes?" We aren't known for our potatoes - that's Idaho. What we do raise is the best corn and beef on the planet. Yum.
I love to read books. I've been a reader all of my life. I never go anywhere without my Kindle. I never know when a reading moment might happen.
I've written a book called Surviving the STRESS of Your Parents' Old Age. It's not only about my adventures in elder care, but it's also a great book to learn how to deal with the stress that can happen when caring for an elderly person. There are a lot of us baby boomers and younger adults caring for a beloved older person. While it is a gratifying experience it can be steeped in stress for the caregiver. It can leave the person, who is giving the care, feeling depressed and alone. My book can help a caregiver learn how to release the stress - along with other helpful elder care tips.
I am looking forward to interacting with this group. Let the fun begin!
