Hello, I'm Shirley Bear Fedorak, and I'm thrilled to join this group. I look forward to hearing from other authors, especially your experiences with writing and self-publishing. I just submitted the first book in my YA fiction series to Amazon Kindle. It's called Footsteps I: The Reluctant Pharaoh, The Little Street Kid, Farmcorp and the Secret Book. I'm currently editing Footsteps II: The Mayan Princess, Naafi, the Bedouin Goat Herder, The Far Side of the Moon. I also write academic books, mainly for University of Toronto Press. My most recent publication is Global Issues: A Cross Cultural Perspective (2014) under the name Shirley Fedorak.
Despite my success in academic writing, my passion and love is with fiction, usually set in the past or the future. I have several other series for older young people and adults that I will be self-publishing next year, but I have to admit, its scary and I'm a fledgling at marketing the books--feel like I'm begging people to read my book.
Thanks, Vincent. I'm Wes Loder and I have made an entry in the Interview section of this round table. I am both a reader and a writer. My YA novel is THE GOLDEN HORN. My history is THE NIKON CAMERA IN AMERICA, 1946-1953. I have two e-books available in the BEETLE: THE BIOGRAPHY OF A VIRTUAL GIRL series. I read almost constantly, so it is hard to pin my interests down, but take a look at my blog for more information. http://wesloder.blogspot.com/

Hey all! My name's Andrew, and I'm happy to be a part of such a great group/site. I put my first book up, as an author, very recently, and I've got more than a few amazing ideas on the back burner just waiting for a stir and a taste. I'm just now getting more active with the site, and I hope to explore more and become active in the publishing/writing/adventuring through prose world of word wizardry very soon!
Welcome Andrew! I think you'll enjoy your time on this site; many intelligent conversations to stimulate your awareness!

To add to my Dec. 18 post with a bit more background...I have just self-published "Burned, About Human Behavior", a study of why people make and break commitments, why that hurts, and why people then repeat the cycle (and should!). Born and raised in New York City and a long-time resident of Washington, D.C., I have lived the life of an Army officer, U.S. diplomat, staffer to Henry Kissinger when he was Secretary of State, C-level business and marketing consultant to multinational companies, entrepreneur, and husband, father, brother, and uncle.
Not all of these jobs, I am quick to admit, worked out quite the way I or anyone else expected. And like many others, I believe, the failures I encountered along the way taught me far more valuable lessons than did any success.
These days, I work with Washington D.C. area not-for-profits to advance their missions in improving water resources, childhood education, and health services for the less fortunate.
Hello, everyone!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! My name is Chrys Fey and I am a debut author with The Wild Rose Press. My first eBook, Hurricane Crimes, came out November 25th. Hello Fellow Authors: Carl Hansen here. Debuted my first thriller series THEIR LAST SECRET: DECLASSIFIED and THEIR LAST SECRET: DISCOVERED (the finale) here on Goodreads a week ago. I feel at home here. Such a nice site and nice community of people here.
I was inspired to write my first book based on my father's military intelligence career and my dual career in medicine. Inspired by all things Michael Crichton, I too took the plunge leaving the world of medicine and entered the many worlds of writing as he did. I met him once. Gracious man. I hope to do "his" genre justice.
Although I've been a film writer for many years, this is my first novel and I've loved the ongoing, exciting journey into the author's world and the world of hungry readers. The un harnessed freedom to write, explore and write even more is an ongoing feast.
Hi there, my name is Georgie Tyler and I love to read. Not only do I love reading I've always lovd to write and on 1 January my debut romance novel is being released by Escape Publishing, DOCTORS BEYOND BORDERS. It's a highly charged, emotional story set in war torn Sudan. I'm so glad to be part of this group and I look forward to getting to know some of you guys.
Hi Group! I'm Claire McEwen, and my first book, a romance novel, will be released by Harlequin in February. I am pretty new to Goodreads so am still getting to know it, but I love to read as well as write so this seemed like a good group for me!~ Claire

Hello, my name is Michael Kanuckel and I'm a fantasy author. I just got invited to this group, and I'm not really sure how to use it yet, but I'll try my best.
Hi everyone :) I am Ruthie and I am a socialite online, I write the blog Pople Backyard Farm and live on a backyard farm .. kind of like the real live Green Acres as my husband of 2 years is the farmer and I am the business girl.. but I love it! I absolutely love to read too.. my weakness is romance and thrillers and mysteries! but I read a lot of different types of books. I love love love doing book reviews -no kindles, or reading books online for me though I love to snuggle with a old fashion books at the end of my day or inbetween my daily work activities and just soak them up. I am open to do book reviews and post them on my blog but please do send a "real" book as my computer is locked up with my work and I don't enjoy using a kindle. I love sharing good reads with my friends all over the internet .. it's fun to connect with other readers and sharing about what we read. - Feel free to ask me to review a book for my blog.
Hello all, I write under the name V.M. Fahy and have just released my debut novel, Visually Disturbed, on Amazon Kindle. Here's a brief description:Psychiatrist, Fergus Browne, loves logic but when he is suddenly able to see the future, his ordered life explodes. His sanity in shreds, his career smashed he is thrown into the path of a powerful Russian billionaire and an assassin intent on murder and kidnap.
Flung from his comfortable life by the direction in which sinister, whispering shadows lead him, he is suspected of murder. Alone, on the run and terrified he can have only one destination, even if it means sacrificing his own life to save others.
I also read, a lot. Too much really as it gives me less time for writing. Mostly I love thrillers and the paranormal. I'm currently living in the world of Mr. King's Dr. Sleep. It's a little scary in here.
Hello everyone. Please enjoy today's new post on my blog about making 2014 the best year of your life!

Hello, everybody! Nice to meet you all. <3 I joined this group a while ago but forgot to post in here until now, so here it goes!My name is Brittany M. Willow and I'm a nineteen-year-old author from Ontario, Canada. I write mostly in the science fiction genre at the moment, but have future plans for a series of fantasy-themed stories as well. I've also just recently released my debut sci-fi novel, The Calypsis Project, which is the first book in a trilogy.
Additionally, I'm a digital artist and super enthusiastic console gamer! I draw mostly stuff related to my novel or other personal projects, but I dabble in other areas as well--such as fan art. :D
Hey all! My name is Jack Bruns, or that's what my pseudonym calls me(bad joke). I not only enjoy reading, but also writing as well! In fact, I've just completed the third draft of my latest work titled "Torn Lace". It's a science fiction/erotic novella set in the near distant future. More dystopian. I've also completed one rom-com screenplay "Wingmen", and also a historical fiction work "Bloody Seeds". I enjoy reading almost every genre out there. I was raised on horror and fantasy, but lately have been drawn more to historical fiction. Though I have started reading H.P. Lovecraft.
My favorite authors are Joseph Conrad, Hunter Thompson, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Hi everyone, I'm Laura Lis Scott. I come from an eclectic background—magazine editor, layout artist, movie trailers editor, filmmaker, web designer, screenwriter, legal wordprocessor.... Back in the days of my youth, I was in creative writing workshops at UCLA, University of Chicago and Columbia. And now, after spending the last decade blogging and exploring the wonderful world of enterprise web development, I'm taking up the keyboard again and will be publishing my first (science fiction) novel in the first quarter of 2014.I've been blogging for a few years at http://rarepattern.com and recently started a new blog just for writing about writing and publishing, http://lauralisscott.com. If you're curious about the web stuff, my company is http://pingv.com.
And last, but not least, I served as editor for the first book of another novelist, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HGJM43O, which just went up on Amazon a few days ago.
Goodreads feels like something of a wilderness to me—overwhelming—so I thought I might as well dive in and post here (and mix my metaphors).
Happy New Year!
Hello! We are Dmitry Gromov and Oleg Ladyzhensky, the professional SF & Fantasy writers from Ukraine writing under the joint penname HENRY LION OLDIE.
(Prevention: English is not our native language. On the whole we write and speak in Russian. Our English is not perfect enough, so, please, excuse us for some possible mistakes.)
We’d like to introduce ourselves to this community.
We’re the professional writers since 1996. From 1991 to December 2013 we had published more than 220 hard cover books, including reprints and translations from Russian to French, Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian, or more than 50 original books (first prints); and some anthologies. More than 30 novels, 14 novelettes and more than 70 short stories were published up until now. At “EuroCon-2006” International European SF & Fantasy Convention H. L. Oldie got a title of The Best European SF & Fantasy Writer of 2006…
But our books never before had been published in the English-speaking world. So, in this huge literary world we’re only beginners, as many others.
We hope to publish our first fantasy book in English in January 2014 at Amazon and Smashwords in eBook format. The book was translated from Russian to English by our Canadian friends and professionally edited by philologists from DePaul University, Chicago, US.
Our official English WEB-site: http://oldie-worlds.com/news.html
We hope, nobody here will have any objections if we’ll put more detailed information about our book in this community when the book will appear at Amazon and Smashwords?
Happy New Year to all of you!
Sincerely yours,
Henry Lion Oldie.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Happy New Year Everyone. My name is Rosemary “Mamie” Adkins but my friends and family call me Mamie and I invite you to do the same. It was an honor last nightto win the BOTM for January 2014 in the Modern Goodreads group and I invite you to come visit this group for discussions. Here is the link:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....
It took me sixteen years to write this book fighting the demons that raged inside my heart while trying to recall yet forget the terrors that surrounded my journey in life.
The story begins in the early 1950's suburbs of Houston, Texas. Mamie is a young child of four who was unwanted, afraid, abused and with nowhere to turn, learned to stand alone. Her only friends were her older brother, an abused child himself, and her nanny, who begged their mother to stop beating them. The father, though he loved his children, remained passive to the end. A victim himself, the only protection he offered was a warning to stay out of their mother's reach.
As you walk the journey with me, you will laugh and cry at the crazy plans I made to escape. Then you will learn how my spirit with the Never Give Up attitude works out in the end with a family of my own.

Hello everybody, my name is Agustin Guerrero. I've been passionate about writing since I first read R.L. Stine's autobiography in the fourth grade. I enjoy all sorts of speculative fiction and I'm also a big fan of comics and video games. I've recently completed and self-published my first work, a military science novel. I'll post a thread in the appropriate section. I'm relatively new to social media, but I hope to connect with readers and other authors soon. Cheers.

Hi there, I'm Lesley Hale, author of two books - supernatural short stories A Wry Smirk from the Dark Side and the first in a series of Tudor adventures Witness. I am a voracious reader of almost all genres, but in my own writing I tend to veer towards historical and fantasy, occasionally combining the two.
Hello everyone. My name is Robert and I am an avid reader and author. I enjoy reading a wide variety of genres, especially international and historical crime. I have a large book collection that I hope will continue to grow over the coming years. My crime book ENTROPY was recently released by Wattle Publishing. I always welcome recommendations and suggestions for reads and authors that I may not be familiar with. Happy reading!
Hello everyone! Austin Quinn here. I'm a senior at the University of Central Florida for criminal justice, and I love to write (seems to be a trend around here). My biggest strength, and weakness, is my habit of coming up with three new book ideas with every one that I write.
Science fiction and fantasy are my favorites, but I'm hoping to branch out little by little. My latest title, Parcel, was released several weeks ago. It's a science fiction thriller and the first of a four book series. So far I've gotten very good feedback from it. I'm actually waiting on some constructive/negative feedback so I can make it even better ;).
I'm excited to be here among so many like minded and creative individuals. I can't wait to dive in to the communities!
Hi everyone! I'm James G. Pearson, yet-to-be published author of The Kingmaker Saga, a series of nine books set in a world torn apart by a bloody conspiracy. I'm very new to this and I'm learning my way around but have found incredibly helpful people along the way and enjoying this first time experience!
Hi, I'm Rick Schindler and I wrote a comic novel (that is, a funny one, not a graphic one) called Fandemonium. It is set around a comic-con and has just been chosen as the January Book of the Month by the Goodreads Superheroes and Comic Book Club (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...). I'm also a journalist for NBC News Digital. You can learn more about me at http://rickschindlerbooks.com/. I'm also on Twitter at @RickSchindler.
